Chapter Forty-One
Cirdan:
Look but not touch. That is the Council golden rule when it comes to me and my mate, in fact it was look from afar too. If my parents were not there, I would have told them exactly where they should put their commands so that I would know that I really warrant the punishment sent my way.
It was a good thing that I had proposed to Iris two nights before we were separated, now if only we could find a way for us to meet without Iris thinking that I would be punished further.
“Do you think that it is a good idea to tell Finn of your plans to meet with Iris?” Vane asked and I paused in the letter I was writing to Finn. I could not very well meet Finn face to face because he was always with Iris, and I did not want her alone. That only left the option of writing to him, old school fashion because I am starting to suspect that the council did something to monitor our phones and the texts sent. Until we could figure out the codes which we would communicate in, we have to use letters.
“Why do you think that it is not a good idea?” I asked Vane, he shrugged like it was unimportant, but I knew Vane and Vine. Vane was the unserious one and anytime he was serious, it meant that the situation needs to be paid attention to and that was what I did.
“I am not buying that shrug. You brought it up for a reason.”
“Yeah Vane, what did you noticed?” Vine asked, he also took note of Vane words and subsequent actions to play it off.
“I could be wrong though.” Vane started when he saw that I was not letting the issue go.
“You could be wrong but…” I repeated after him, trailing my last words so he could pick it up from there and tell me what’s was on his mind.
“But Finn is possessive of Iris, and it is just off. Iris has dark circles around her eyes and sure it could be played off as her being tired and wanting sleep because she spent the night crying for her mate but then she would have puffy eyes from tears not dark circles.”
“Okay… so?” Vine asked, confused as me.
“So, something else is going on with her and for Finn not to bring it up, that is already weird in itself. Something about Finn feels off Cirdan. It’s a feeling but a very strong one. I suggest that you take time in watching Finn before giving him any letter. I am not even sure that the news will reach Iris if it goes through Finn.”
“But the former ones went” I started only to give a pause, Did they? Iris would have wanted to meet me regardless of if she was scared that I would be punished. She would have met me in a way that if we were caught the blame would be solely on her. I would not have agreed to it but that does not mean that she would not have tried.
“And I would suggest that you watch Finn just for today.” Vane suggested and before I could complain, he rushed as he added. “Just today and I don’t mean your usual watching of him, I mean really watching him without thinking of Iris.”
“She is his mate dude, that is not going to happen.” Vine pointed out as I chuckled, but Vane did not see the humor, he was still serious which was scary in its own way.
“I know but try. Just once.” Vane begged.
I nodded my head and Vane smiled as he released a breathe and then turned back into the Vane we all know.
“Do you know that if we remove gravity in a room, painted it ash, and placed some humans in it, they will think they are in space? We should definitely do that on our trip to earth.”
“We are not scaring humans Vane.” Vine started then paused. “What trip to earth?”
“You know, the one we would eventually take and why? It will be so fun.”
“I can’t believe that you want to make me argue over something that will never happen.” Vine gripes.
“But it could.” Vane returned.
“It wouldn’t.”
“It could.”
And with that silly argument happening between the twins, everything went back to usual, Vane being his unserious normal self, but the doubt was already in my mind.
*******************************************
That bastard! He was doing something to Iris, I just know it. Vane was right, all it took was me watching him for an hour to realize that something was wrong. And when I tried to look into his aura, it had it pinned down tightly and not just his aura, he was masking his emotions and some other tells, things you don’t do unless you have something serious to hide.
And that was when I decided to look into Iris aura, I was already worried from Finn, but Iris stopped my heart. She never really did learn to hide her aura; she is barely even remembering to read the auras of those around her. Her aura was all shades of wrong, the black patches worried me as much as the brown patches did, they rarely shifted and when she laughed, a very tiny part of her aura changed to suit her current state. That just meant that she at best just depressed, and she was not acting as if she was.
I stared at Iris long enough that Finn noticed and then the bastard took Iris away from the room, he knew I was checking her aura and he knew that it was all shades of wrong, but he was not doing anything to correct it.
That was when I made a fatal mistake, I was not thinking, I needed to see Iris, in plain view of anybody who could have walked past me, I placed a note in Iris Locker, I did not even use my senses to check if others were closed by and then I went to the meeting place and waited.
Thirty minutes later, the door opened and instead of my mate, the Fairy queen, the principal, Viana friend whom I never bothered to learn her name and the dark king were in the room.
“When we give orders we expect them to be obeyed.” The fairy queen announced looking at me.
“Something is not right with my mate.” I gritted out, already on the defensive.
“She is not your mate until she is legal, she still has some months to go.”
“Something is wrong with the Princess of Folks and Light fae.” I paraphrased, looking into the eyes of the Principal. “I believe that you should call her father here, not her mother though.” I added as an afterthought. Finn was light fae after all. If he was doing something to Iris, it meant that he had the backing of the queen else he would not have dared it.
“And call him so that you would have someone to side you, Ah, I think not.” The fairy queen responded.
“This is not about you.” I gritted out but my words were ignored.
“He violated the terms of the council and so for his punishment, he will be expelled and taken away from the school compound immediately.” The fairy queen said with glee as the principal sputtered.
“That is too extreme Queen…” He started but his words died in his throat and when his hands flew there in a panic, she smiled.
“You are not allowed to talk; I will take it that you agreed with our punishment.”
“What the hell do you think you are doing?” I asked the queen who shrugged.
“Punishing you.” She replied as she clapped her hands and guards came into the room, “He is expelled from ATI effective immediately, if he puts up any fight, his parents will pick him from a holding center.”
“The only person who has the right to do that is the principal and you just took his voice away, he doesn’t agree.” I yelled at her as the guards moved to me and restrained me.
“I really need to talk with Iris, she is in danger.” I struggled.
“He struggled, take him to a holding center.” The Fairy queen laughed.
“What is going on here?” Iris voice whipped out, rage making it deeper, and she managed to input menace in those five words.
“He violated the terms of the council. He is expelled and taken into custody.”
“For him to be expelled, he had to be in my presence first, not initiate contact and also the fact that your guards are restraining him now, is not looking good. He is not your citizen so let him go.” Iris returned and the fairy queen paused.
“He is in your presence now so that makes our terms violated. He is still expelled.” The dark king stated, and the fairy queen latched on that. Nodding her head rapidly.
“He also struggled which meant that he will be placed in a holding cell for his parents to come and pick him up.”
“Oh, hell no!” Iris snapped. “You are not taking my mate anywhere. Not until his king is around.”
“Move out now.” The guards started to drag me out of the room, and I watched as Iris aura filled completely with the black as her yes even turned black.
“I said no.” She said in an eerie male voice as the hairs on my body stood. I watched as Iris attacked the guards who held me and within seconds, she was leaving most of them lying broken on the floor. The fairy queen blew some dust Iris way and I saw as they spun around and entered Iris eyes even as she was not facing the direction the queen blew them in.
I caught Iris before she fell.
“I guess we are adding, attacking the members of the council to your charges.” The fairy queen stated as the dark king came to me and yanked me out of the room, I could not attack them, not unless I wanted to kill myself.
“Send for the nurse for her. She would wake up with a massive headache.” The queen said to the principal as I was dragged out of the room, the last sight I had of my mate was her lying helplessly on the ground unconscious.
