Chapter Forty

“You do know that you are acting like a child right?” Finn informed me as I rolled my eyes bit did not answer him. I was sulking.

My parents, well my father, not my mother. That woman really didn’t have any maternal bone in her body, I already knew this when she abandoned me at the age two but now we were back and the whole of Faery knows she is my mother so there was no protecting me from the people after her so she had no excuse of why she cannot build a relationship with me. I felt hurt by her actions though, even though I kept on saying that I didn’t want her close, but I guess I wanted a mother. No matter how old I am. I wanted to experience the loving care of a mother which most of my friends then on earth used to talk about.

She really did not have any excuse and that reminded me. “Finn what is going on about the people who are trying to kill queen Nambra?”

“Two things are wrong with that question.” Finn responded.

“Please tell me.” I added, thinking that he was referring to the fact that I kind of commanded him to tell me rather than asking nicely, I even added a smile with the please this time.

Finn looked at me with a fond smile before something over my head caught his attention. “Please don’t smile at me like that again, your mate would get jealous and Cirdan being jealous is not pretty.”

I turned to look over my shoulders and my eyes caught Cirdan’s own, I inhale quickly as my gaze rover over his features, features that I have missed so much. The longing in his eyes match mine and he took a step forward only for Vine to lay a hand on his chest, Vane also seemed to be talking quickly to Cirdan and he must have said something that penetrated Cirdan’s mind because Cirdan rocked a step backwards then turned and left the cafeteria like he could not bear being in the same place with me.

“That boy will soon go feral if he is being kept much longer from you.” Finn commented but I turned my eyes away from where Cirdan was standing and faced him.

“Well, I asked you a question.” I said, not wanting to switch to the talk to the issue of my mate, my emotions are just as frayed as his and we have only been apart for barely a month.

“And I said two things were wrong and it was not your smile or the word please.” Finn reminded me.

“Then what is it?” I demanded.

“One, you asking me, like you actually think that I would know and two. You calling the queen by her name, she is your mother remember.” Finn stated.

“You really don’t want to start this argument about what I should call my mother with me today Finn, you would lose so hard it would feel like I have pummel you into the ground.”

“I would not know the feeling after all, it has never happened.” Finn shrugged then darted quickly away from me so he could miss the hit that I sent his way. I might have never won against him, but he was finding it harder to keep winning and resulting to dirty games, but I was giving back just as good as I got.

“Very soon. I am going to win.” I reminded him but he just shook his head.

“Back to the discussion, I think that it is time that you let your parents see you, even if it just to let them apologize and hear what they have to say on what happened.”

“I won’t.” I snapped at him. “If I cannot see my mate then I don’t want to see them.”

“Iris…” Finn started but I walked out of the cafeteria, angry that my father put him up to try and change my mind. The only person I still talked to, and my father wanted me to be at odds with him.

********************

I really did not want to call Finn, but I had no other choice. I couldn’t call Cirdan, and Finn has been the one who takes care of me when I am this lost and disoriented and currently underdressed.

“Iris.” Finn relief came as soon as he picked his call. “I was worried about you, I know that I annoyed you yesterday but don’t act like the way you just did, not answering your door when you know that I have been knocking. I almost went to Cirdan with the news that you were missing, imagine what Cirdan would have done.

I grimace, “Sorry for the worry, I really am but I am in a kind of lurch, the one you always help me out of.”

After a bit of a pause, Finn voice was serious and calm. “Again.”

“Yes, again.”

“Turn on the location on your phone and I will pick you up.” He ended the call while I turned on my location then gripped the phone tightly in my hand as I waited for Finn arrival. If this sleepwalking business doesn’t end soon, one day I would be out and would lose my phone, my only means of communication with others to pick me up.

Was I even sleepwalking, I didn’t know anymore. All I knew is that I experience blackouts and wake up in places where I definitely did not go to bed in because I didn’t even they know exist.

I was scared and worried, nobody other than Finn knew and the only others I could tell, I am not talking with them. I feel so angry at that fact but when I felt the darkness rising in the same pace as my power, I had to slow down my breathing and control myself. I could not be lashing at… well nothing. There was nothing but debris and deserted buildings that were still in the process of being built.

When Finn arrived, I threw myself into his arms, hugging him while my tears flow. As usual, he didn’t say anything, he just hugged me back then cleaned my tears when I finally lifted my head from chest. He held me in his arms as he blurred back to the school and then my room.

“We need to tell someone what is happening…” Finn started cautiously, he had right to be cautious about his words because I started spitting out refusals, besides like I said before. Who do we tell that would belief us?”

Finn sighed. “I don’t like this Iris.”

“Me too Finn. Thank you.”

“You are welcome.” Finn kissed my hair and then left the room, leaving me to undress myself.

As I was undressing I came across a small symbol painted on my rib with red paint, I wondered about the symbol and the paint. Using my hand to swipe at it, I brought it close to my nose and it was enough to make me woozy because I recognized the metallic scent. It was blood.

“What the hell do I do after blanking out?”
