Chapter 26: Chapter Twenty-Six
“For someone who doesn’t make trouble, we do get called to school a lot.” My father said, taking a seat beside me as I waited outside the principal office for my parents’ arrival.
“Hello father.” I greeted, barely glancing up to my father’s face but I could feel his frown at my reaction.
“Somehow, I am looking forward to the day where I am called to this place because my daughter broke rules.” My mother stated and then paused when she saw that I did not even bother to give her a reply.
“This is serious for her to not smart off at me.” Nambra, my mother stated.
“What is wrong?” My father asked me but before I could reply, the door of the principal office opened up and the head of the panel stepped out. Mt parents tensed beside me.
“I believe that it would be better if we take this conversation inside.” He suggested and with a somber mood in the air, we all moved to the principal office.
“You seem to be a regular face here Miss Iris.” The principal laughs but his laughter tapered off when my mother released a hiss of anger in his direction.
“Don’t think that we are not aware of your actions to bring suitors for our daughter.” My mother snapped at him.
“But that discussion will be made after we have discovered and sort out the reason for this meeting.” My father firm voice overshadowed my mother. She surprising kept quiet and returned her attention to the head of the panel. \
“King Elros and Queen Nambra, your daughter tested to be a dark witch.” He ripped the injury opened once and even I flinched at his bluntness. That was never a good news to present to parents, even I was aware of the stigmatization of dark witches.
My father hands gripped mine tightly as if the tighter he could crush my fingers, the news would change but it did not.
“No.” My mother protested. “It cannot be.” She stated as she wrapped me in her arms as if she was trying to protect me from the news. “Your assessment is flawed.”
“I am from a generation of folks who have dated being light for as long as the word dated being in existence. Her mother is the queen of light fae, it is practically impossible for our daughter to be dark.” My father argued.
I looked at the head panel with hope that sprung at my father’s statement.
“She is not only a dark witch but one of the most powerful to ever exist, she left the test before it ended. That is defying the power of the entire panel, me included.” The man spoke once more and this time both of my parents spoke at the same time.
“She is from two very powerful lines of blood.”
“And I would know the signature of dark witch after all, I am one.” He added and to this, my parents did not have any retort.
With a shaky breathe, I spoke knowing that I needed to get this meeting over with so Cirdan can come in and hold me. “What next?”
The man eyes softened when they landed on me after my words. “It is not a death sentence you know; you get to prove people wrong when they tell you that you would do something evil.”
“I still want to know how this is possible, Iris doesn’t even hurt a bee that stings her…” My father exploded.
“Sometimes, positive and positive means negative.” The man stated and when my father glared at him, he shrugged. “Too much light leads to this.”
“If I were you I would stop talking.” Nambra voice was sharp as a knife as she gave the order disguise under a suggestion. The man was wise to heed to her ‘suggestion’.
“If that is all…” The principal started, getting up to usher the man away but the man planted his feet.
“She needs to take a test.”
I provoked. “I am done with your tests. Every single test that I have taken since I arrived at ATI has been nothing, but more burden placed on me.”
“I am sorry princess but with great power comes great responsibility, your father can tell you all about it.”
“What is this test about?” My mother asked, her tone weary.
“The level of her power.” The man replied as he placed a crystal in front of me at the principal’s desk.
I looked at him and he nodded, he wanted me to pick it up. “Will I be transfer to a jungle or any other place that would test my life?”
“No, highest the crystal would do is light up.”
I nodded and picked up the crystal from exactly where the man placed his fingers when he dropped it. At first nothing happened and just as I was about to complain to the man that he was wrong, the crystal started shaking in my hand.
“Father?” I called distressed at what was happening.
“What is this?” My father roared in anger.
“I don’t know.” The man’s tone was confused just like the rest of us, just as I made my mind to throw the crystal far away from us in case of it exploding, the crystal light up so brightly that I was momentarily blind.
“Let go of the crystal now.” The male voice sounded strained, and he did not have to tell me twice, I immediately threw the crystal away from me.
“What the hell was that?” My mother asked, shakily.
“Your daughter power.” The man replied still shell shocked, but he hadn’t looked at me since.
“It is nice to see that not my life was threatened this time but my eyesight.” I griped.
“I am sorry about that, I never expected it to be that…. that.” The man corrected, his tone more respectful towards me now, I was not the only one who noticed.
“What does that mean?” My father asked and he met my gaze for the first time since the crystal light stopped.
“That crystal was created by the first ever most powerful dark witch, she used it to measure the power of her opponent and after her death and peace reigned, it was used to measure the power of dark witches, If your daughter kept hold of the crystal, she would have shattered it. This proves she is the most powerful dark witch to ever exist.”
And the blows just kept on coming.
