Chapter 25: Chapter Twenty-Five
Terms used for Faery schools is the most annoying ever. They said prepare for midterm tests and that was what I did.
“You should stop frowning.” Vine stated as Vane and Finn chuckled at my expression.
“Finn, you are my subject, I can order you to eat dust if you keep this up.” I replied in a syrupy tone that made Finn chuckles turn to full blown laughter.
“You shouldn’t be angry, in our defense, it is what we are used to, you are the strange one here.” Vine replied and in return I narrowed my eyes at him.
“What do you mean ‘our’?”
“Oh, he is laughing on the inside.” Vane voice was filled with laughter and that was when I looked into his aura and saw that Vane was right about his brother. Vine was truly laughing at me.
“Vine, you are supposed to be on my side here.” I sulked and Cirdan shook his head.
“Give it a rest Iris, Your reactions are making them laugh more.”
I smiled at my mate, of course he would be at my corner.
“He is just good with phrasing to remove himself for the action.” Finn rolled his eyes and I turned to look at Cirdan aura, but he was keeping it blocked.
“You…” I started, pointing my finger at him.
“I am keeping my aura hidden for another reason.” He stated.
“And how will I know…” I complained but he bent to whisper in my ears.
“You look cute right now and it would not be fine for our cover to be blown because I couldn’t hide my aura when lust is swirling around in it.”
And with that, he successfully made my cheeks red.
“And they just have to make a couple from the group.” Finn complains but didn’t add anything when I frowned at him.
“How are things done on earth?” Vine asked.
“Firstly, a school year is called session and it is divided into three terms or two semesters depends on your level. It is certainly not called one term. And midterm tests are just that. Tests that occur in the middle of a term not another word for exams.” I griped and Vine had to cough to hold his laughter in, the rest three did not offer me that privileged of them wanting to hide it. They laughed at me, including my mate.
“That is just strange. We have seven terms at ATI. We enter at age ten and get to graduate at age 17. Also, our tests are mainly done by our teachers who checks to ensure the scope of our power and knowledge, we are not forced to study because us not studying is reducing our power rank. Earth system is just null.” Cirdan explained.
“Thank you Captain obvious scholar.” I rolled my eyes at Cirdan, I was nervous about everything and no matter how the rest were saying I should be calm, I could not be calm. This was like my first school exam and both parents would be interested in the results. I was just an inch remaining to be bouncing off the wall when my name was finally called.
Gulping loudly, I moved into the room where the test was being held and a teacher drone in a very bland voice, stating what I was required to do and the grade for each result. Of course, I was not paying attention as I was trying to calm myself instead, so I do not go into panic attack.
Real help that was because as soon as the voice stopped droning out instructions and the room started changing forms, I realized what big trouble I was in for not paying attention.
At least, someone was watching the test to grade me right? They would not allow the heir to two races die; it would be bad attention to the school. I consoles myself as a jungle appeared before me instead of the room I was in.
I proceeded slowly until I came across a large stream with no way to cross it. I turned to go back to where I was coming from only to see a thick fog behind me. Now I knew the earthly expression of being placed between the deep sea and the devil. The water was an impossibility to cross and the fog… I knew better than to step into it. I have been warned on some many occasions that fogs are bad. You never know what they were hiding and for the fact that this was a test, I was certain that they were definitely hiding something.
I placed a foot into the water to check the depth and when it only reached my ankle, I smiled, although I was still not certain about the water, I turned to contemplate the fog once more, when I saw something with big eyes watching me from it. Dread filled me as I took another step into the water and the water volume seemed to increase. I just hoped that I would not have a panic attack in the middle of the water. When the creature stated advancing towards me, I walked through the water, trying to increase my steps so that the volume will not drown me in the middle.
That was not what I should have been worried about. When I got to the middle, something kept my feet firmly rooted on the bed of the water that I could not move it and just as I started panicking, I saw a large wave of water approaching me. The water was already at my waist. If the wave met me, then the water would cover me whole, and I would drown. That was when I tried using spells, but nothing worked. I was supposed to do this with just physical ability alone.
The wave grew nearer, and I became more frantic even screaming for help and just as the wave was about to sweep me away, I could feel my magic stores activate themselves and I froze the water on its tracks then attacked whatever seemed to be holding me in place, the vines slipped off easily and I used my power to float out of the water to the other side of the bank where I collapsed breathing heavily. The scene disappeared and a rocky scene took over.
“Oh, hell no, I am done. I am not playing this test again. Get me out of here.” I screamed and to my surprise, no birds flew away at my shout, everywhere was still eerily silent, this was not like the former test at all. At least things in that one moved. I was the only moving thing in this one.
I refused to move a step in any direction to show my unwillingness but eventually, I got tired and so I took a step, just one and the ground shook, before I could think of voicing my complaint that was already storming in my head. The ground surrounding me collapse, forming something like a cliff, except there was no place for me to turn back to. I was standing a 6 feet patch of rock while the other place I could stand on other than that was about twenty feet away from me. I could still feel my power and as items started appearing on the ground, I chose to use my power before it was taken from me, I jumped off the cliff I was standing only with my eyes close only to open my eyes when I felt my feet on the ground and when I looked around, the scene had changed once more. But this scene I was happy for.
“What the hell was that?” I asked the panel of five teachers who were staring at me in shock.
“We should be asking you that?” One of them sputtered.
“Talk.” I growled at them, my eyes squinted in a glare as I was tempted to use my power on them just so they should understand how high my emotions were right now with the near brush with death I just had.
“I think your parents need to be called in and other tests be put on hold.” The panel at the center said softly as he nodded behind me, and the door opened, and someone slipped out.
His tone and the fact that my parents were going to be called, pierced through my anger, I slowly realized that I was being stared at with a mixture of awe and fear.
“What is going on?” I asked as calmly as I could.
“You just completed the test in a way which no one has ever done. You were supposed to be powerless for the entire thing.”
“But I was not.” I answered and another of the panel nodded.
“Exactly, you were not. Another test would need to be carried out to determine the height of your powers.” I opened my mouth to complain but he rushed out. “This test will be beside your parents; it would not be taxing.”
I relaxed a little at that then realized that they must have come to some kind of conclusion for them to call my parents.
“What does my unusualness for my test means?” I asked.
Tension increased in the room the head panel spoke after a brief deliberation among them with their eyes meeting each other and exchanging slights head nods.
“Your unusualness means that you are a dark witch, a very powerful dark witch. Now we just need to test how powerful you are.”
My hearing stopped listening as I realized the reason why they were shocked. I was a hybrid, not a witch yet somehow, my powers show that I am a witch and a dark one for that matter when my father was a light folk, and my mother was a light fae.
Where did the darkness come from?
