Chapter 16: Chapter Sixteen

Iris:

Finn was a douche, a big douche when he wants to be. Something I did not know about until he placed me in that category of people he needed to be douchey to, all because I told him to find other friends during the time I was going to spend with my mate since I cannot be with him throughout the day as we usually do before Cirdan became my mate.

I understand that I might not have gone about telling him about my mind in the right ways. But I think he should understand, after all he cannot blame me. I had just seen my mate; I would blame every annoying word I said on the bond.

“Finn.” I called Finn during lunch, waving at him to tell him, I was not sitting at our usual table, surprisingly the table which had always remained empty even when we were not in the Cafeteria was full that day.

Finn continued moving as if I had not just yelled his name in the Cafeteria, and I knew he heard me because he paused in his stride before he continued when I called out to him.

I watched shocked as my friend smiled at the people sitting in our table, shaking hands with them, and acting friendly with them. He was acting like he had invited them to the table.

“Hey Trixie,” I called out to the guide that was first assigned to me before Finn was, the only other person who I would regard as a friendly student face in the school other than Finn and Cirdan. Now I am realizing what a huge mistake I had made these past few weeks, limiting myself to just one friend who can ignore me and leave me lonely when we have a little misunderstanding.

“Hello your highness.” Trixie responded, almost bowing.

“None of that please.” I quickly shook my head at her, I didn’t want her to change, she was already feeling like we are not on the same level only for her to learn that I have royal blood in me.

“Do you know why people are at that table?” I jerked my chin to point at Finn’s table.

“Of Course, that’s Finn's table, most of the top students have their specific spots. Places which others don’t sit at or use unless they were given express permission by the person.” Trixie explained as she looked at the table occupants then added as an afterthought. “He must have sent them messages yesterday and they accepted, lucky them.” She said then turned to face me when she realized that I was not at the table, and I have been an occupant of that table since my very first lunch. Her face went red. “I am sorry your highness, I did not mean anything by my words…”

“It’s okay.” I smiled wanly at her, hiding the hurt I was feeling at Finn's clear display of the fact that we were not in good terms, his actions broadcasted that news to everybody who was in the cafeteria which was practically the whole school. “I was the one who asked for the information.”

“Still, I am sorry, your highness. I didn’t mean to ramble on unnecessarily.” She continued, beating herself up over nothing. I was about to tell her that I really didn’t mind when she bowed her head. “Forgive me!”

And she just proved that she would never consider me her friend, I smiled tightly, uncomfortable with the attention that her actions were bringing to me.

“Forgiven, now go and have your lunch.” I ordered her because I knew if I tried to convince her that I was not angry, she would have drawn more attention to me with her begging for forgiveness. She thanked me for my ‘graciousness,’ something which I was not aware that I had before she left with her tray to her seat.

I watched her go before turning back to face Finn’s direction and then my gaze met with his, he had been watching the whole scene not saying anything and his face was annoyingly blank. I gave him a tiny smile, the sigh of truce but he just turned his face away like I was no longer interesting.

I will repay him for his actions, I don’t know how but I certainly will.

That was when my phone pinged with an incoming text, I looked at my phone screen wondering who was calling me since I only had four people who would likely contact me, my father, mother, Finn and Cirdan. And it was really Cirdan, he was telling me to meet him somewhere else, he doesn’t come to the cafeteria and even though he had, I still would not have been able to eat lunch with him since we were keeping our relationship on a low key.

Another message came in, this time it was a lea and I smiled. I stood up and walked to keep my try and on passing Finn’s table, I whispered.

“Jerk.” Everybody at the table heard me and froze but I didn’t care, I continued on my way and left the cafeteria immediately after I had kept the tray.

I got to the hallway that Cirdan was waiting for me, it was deserted except for him.

“Hey Cirdan, where is everybody?” I asked, as I walked closer to him.

“Doing their own things.” Came his reply as he wrapped his arm around my waist and drew me closer to him, close enough for our breaths to mingle.

“Hello mate.” He said in a gruff voice, his pitch low like his voice was not supposed to pass our special bubble even though it was just two of us present.

“Hello Cirdan.” I replied, breathless, both from his nearness and his touch. The warmth gotten from his touch was just an added bonus.

He ducked his head closer to mine, and I closed my eyes and waited for the kiss he was going for, but it did not come, even after a while of waiting. I opened my eyes to see his face, although it was close to mine, he was not leaning in but just watching me. Mirth dancing in his eyes.

“Jerk.” I complained as I hit him, and his laughter washed out of him. I grumbled about annoying people, but he did not mind me, he just continued laughing and when I walked away, he held my hand and drew me back with it.

“What…” I started to snap at him, but he covered my mouth with him and when he raised his head, I am not proud to say it took me some seconds to unscramble my brain.

“You are very cute and adorable but don’t think we will leave without me getting a kiss for you, now come along. We have about an hour free of classes and I want to make good use of it.” He stated as he walked ahead of me, leaving me to jog to catch up with him.

“Good use of our break… I was planning on doing some homework.” I complained.

“You see, that is why I said that we should make good use of it, emphasis on the good since you certainly can do assignments later on.” Cirdan replied with a roll of his eyes and so I decided to not complain and see what he came up with. And that was a good choice since he took me to the fair. Something which I clearly have never been told about before.
