Chapter 313
When Henry brought it up, a grin spread across his face. "Bronte dumped him. Right after graduation, she left the country and cut off all contact. Finley went nuts, flying all over the world to find her. When they finally met up abroad, who knows what went down between them, but it ended up like this."
Amelia's jaw dropped. "Oh my God, Bronte hooked up with Finley and then ghosted him after graduation. She's something else!"
"But that's all ancient history now. Bronte's a mom, so why is he still hung up on her? And mocking her when she's sick? That's so childish," Amelia said, clearly upset.
Even though she'd only met Bronte a few times, Bronte had always been so kind and generous. She even offered them water, and considering the huge difference in their family backgrounds, it seemed like Finley was just bullying Bronte.
Henry suddenly closed the book he was holding and grabbed Amelia's shoulders. "Didn't you just beg me to let you go? But now you seem quite spirited."
Amelia immediately got the hint. To continue speaking might invite unforeseen consequences. Better to stay quiet.
She shrank back beneath the covers, her smile awkward and forced. "I'm really tired, really."
Henry gently patted her back, trying to help her fall asleep. Just as her eyelids grew heavy, she caught his soft murmur, "Stay away from Bronte. She's not what she seems."
Curiosity flickered within her, but sleep overtook her before she could voice it.
The next morning, she woke up to a call from Ethan. "Amelia, are you awake? I have great news! A handsome young man named Finley just made a huge investment in our company! We're flush with cash now. Whatever you want, it's yours!"
Amelia thought she must still be dreaming. Why would Finley be so generous to invest in their company? "Dad, are you sure? Maybe you got the name wrong?"
Ethan sounded a bit annoyed. "I'm not that old yet. He specifically said he's a friend of Henry's. Do you know him?"
Amelia nodded slowly. "I've met him a few times, but we're not close. His business doesn't seem related to ours. Why would he invest in us?"
A thoughtful silence followed before Ethan spoke again. "He's a strange one. I asked him the same thing, and he just said he believes investing in us won't lose money. He wouldn't say anything else."
Amelia grasped the situation instantly. It had to be Henry's doing.
Even though the Wilson Family's company had returned to normal operations, they had been deeply tied to the Anderson Family for so long. Many investments came from the Anderson Family. If they wanted to extricate themselves, they needed another strong investor.
Thinking about this made her eyes well up. Henry was really looking out for her and her family.
After hanging up, Amelia brought her laptop to the living room. Henry was already up, checking the stock changes from the previous day. Seeing her awake, he reached out. "Come drink your milk, or you'll get a stomachache at work again."
This was his routine. Ever since he found out Amelia didn't like breakfast, he ensured a glass of milk awaited her each morning.
Amelia sat down obediently, holding the glass but not drinking it right away. Henry noticed. "You feeling okay? Why aren't you drinking?"
Amelia thought for a moment and then asked, "Why did you arrange for Finley to invest in our company? You need to untangle from the Anderson Family more than we do. Why not take this opportunity?"
Henry calmly split his buttered toast. "On the surface, Finley's projects do seem different from your family's business, but his recent ventures align well with yours."
Amelia still felt uneasy. "But what if he finds out the situation isn't favorable after investing? It might be too late to pull out. He's your friend; I don't want to put you in a difficult position."
Henry shook his head. "Amelia, he's a businessman above all else. While others were learning the basics, he was already negotiating deals with his father. He's never made a losing deal. Do you think he wouldn't do his research before investing?"
Reflecting on his words, she realized he was right. Finley didn't seem like someone who would take a loss. Except for his setback with Bronte, he probably hadn't experienced much failure.
Thinking of Bronte stirred Amelia's curiosity once more, but remembering Henry's warning from last night, she decided to keep quiet.
This maneuver was mutually beneficial. It solved the Wilson Family's investment issue and helped Finley establish a stronghold in the industry, smoothing his future endeavors.
But for someone to take on the Wilson Family's business and compete with the powerful Anderson Family, Finley was impressive.
Leaning back into the couch, Amelia couldn't suppress her admiration. "Finley is so rich! Competing with the Anderson Group like that."
Henry's eyelashes fluttered as he murmured with earnest conviction. "Amelia, I'll make sure you live like that too. It won't take long, trust me."
A soft laugh escaped Amelia's lips. "The life you give me now is already great. I was just making a comment, not being envious. Besides, what you've achieved at your age is already amazing!"
Henry, satisfied, found a comfortable position and lay his head on Amelia's lap.
Amelia found it amusing. Henry could be quite childish at times. He'd get sulky when she mentioned other men, a stark contrast to his usual decisive CEO persona. It was endearing.
Since Finley and Ethan had already decided on the investment, she felt no need to worry. Especially since Laura's company orders were almost full, many requiring Amelia's personal attention.
Her life was filled with various tasks, and by the time she got home late at night, there was barely time for a kiss.
Henry had complained to Laura several times about reducing Amelia's workload, only to be met with, "If you think you can do it, go ahead!"
Amelia wasn't pleased about Henry calling Laura. "Laura helped me when I was struggling. Now that things are better, I can't be ungrateful! Plus, translation is a skillful job. If we make mistakes, it wouldn't be fair to our clients!"
Henry could only sigh and keep quiet.
