Chapter 311

Amelia leaned back in her chair, rubbing her tired eyes. She was exhausted.

"Don't worry, Laura. If he comes looking for you, I'll handle it," Amelia reassured her friend.

After finally finishing the mountain of work on her desk, Amelia looked up and realized the sun had set without her even noticing.

Oh no!

She had dinner plans with Henry tonight!

She quickly gathered her things and dashed downstairs, only to find Henry leaning against his car, smiling at her.

"Didn't realize you were so focused at work, Amelia. You almost forgot about me," he teased.

Henry pulled her into a hug, playfully squeezing her waist. Amelia blushed.

"The project I'm working on is urgent. I finally made some progress, so I kept at it. Sorry for making you wait so long," she said sheepishly.

Henry ruffled her hair. "How about some real compensation? Like, giving me a special gift."

As Amelia buckled her seatbelt, she had a sudden thought. "Of course, I have something for you!"

Henry was just about to lean in for a kiss when Amelia suddenly climbed into the back seat, leaving him facing an empty space where she once sat.

Sometimes, Henry wondered what to do with his clueless fiancée.

But soon enough, Amelia crawled back to the front seat, proudly holding up a gift. "Look! I made this for you myself. It took me a long time!"

The sense of accomplishment from making something by hand held immense significance, especially when it was out of love. Amelia had always found such time-consuming tasks daunting, often giving up after a little effort. But this time, she had completed a scarf all by herself. It was truly remarkable!

Henry examined the scarf closely. In his nearly thirty years, no other girl had ever given him such a handmade gift. But honestly...

Handiwork was perhaps not within Amelia's realm of expertise. The simple scarf was twisted and uneven, with large stitches and many bumps.

Henry felt something inside and pulled out a long, thin needle. "Is this part of your masterpiece too?" he asked evenly.

Amelia's face turned red as she snatched the needle and threw it out the window. "I forgot about that. No wonder the needle count was off."

Henry fell silent again. He thought, 'Amelia, are you trying to assassinate me?'

Henry held the brown scarf, his long lashes fluttering as he looked down. Amelia's heart ached at the sight.

Lily was right; Amelia had no talent for making scarves. She had even forgotten to remove the needle. Maybe Henry didn't like it at all. With his status, he could get any scarf he wanted. Imagining him wearing this scarf to work seemed ridiculous.

In a sudden impulse, Amelia lunged forward to take it back. "Give it to me. It's so ugly. You shouldn't wear it out. What if people laugh at you? I'll buy you a new one."

But Henry's grip on the scarf stayed firm.

She looked up, surprised, meeting Henry's gaze.

"Did I ever say I didn't like this scarf?" Henry asked, his eyes full of affection.

Amelia was stunned. "But it still has a needle in it," she stammered softly.

Henry suddenly smiled. "That just shows it's made by your hands. No one else could make something this special for me. Besides, I like the color."

Amelia's eyes lit up. "Yes, yes! Your clothes are always so mature and steady, so I chose brown to match them. Isn't that smart?"

Who could resist Amelia's eager look for praise?

Henry fleetingly wondered if an invisible tail wagged behind her as he complimented the treasured fabric.

"So, Amelia, would you do me the honor of wrapping this around my neck?" Henry asked in his magnetic voice.

Amelia was more than willing.

The car's heater was on full blast, and without his black coat, Henry looked notably more approachable than usual.

Amelia carefully wrapped the scarf around his neck. Despite choosing a mature brown, it still looked a bit childish against his imposing presence. It added a touch of unexpected cuteness.

Amelia admired her handiwork for a few minutes with quiet satisfaction. "Go look in the mirror. It looks great!"

Henry opened the car mirror, but his gaze fell on Amelia beside him rather than the scarf. Amelia's upturned lips looked very proud.

This was her first independently completed scarf. Shouldn't she be proud?

"This is my compensation for you. So, can you forgive me for being late?" Amelia watched his reaction nervously.

Without hesitation, Henry pulled her into his arms. "Silly, even without compensation, I wouldn't be mad. I'm your boyfriend; it's only natural for me to wait," he murmured tenderly.

Amelia nestled closer into his embrace, closing her eyes in contentment. "I don't want you to thank me. I just want you to spend more time with me. I know I wasn't a great girlfriend at first, but I'll keep changing. Trust me, okay?" she whispered earnestly.

Amelia buried her face in Henry's chest, her heart racing. Even after all this time, she still felt shy saying these things.

From above came Henry's teasing voice. "Looks like I haven't given you enough time before. I'll spend more time with you and learn to be better, okay?"

A warmth spread through Amelia's chest, ready to burst out. She looked up instinctively, meeting Henry's lips.

Henry's throat moved as he kissed her deeply. The kiss was possessive, and Amelia was glad they were in the car. Otherwise, she might have collapsed.

But one kiss wasn't enough for Henry. His hands roamed her body. "Amelia," he breathed, "I've waited a long time. A scarf isn't enough. Can I have more compensation?"

Amelia wanted to push him away and ask who said they didn't need compensation earlier. But words failed her in the moment.
