Chapter 306
Henry's always been surprisingly chill when it comes to Amelia.
Even after all the time they'd spent together, Amelia still couldn't get used to how calm Henry always seemed.
Maybe it was because she couldn't shake the image of Henry as cold and distant, like Alexander had painted him when they were kids.
For the longest time, she worried she might be walking right into Henry's trap.
But now, under the soft glow of the lights, Amelia couldn't help but mess up his hair. "Why are you so sweet? I really like you."
Henry's face froze for a second. Getting praised should've felt good.
But now he felt this rebellious urge, like he wanted to show Amelia a different side of him, one that wasn't so nice.
Still, buoyed by Amelia's compliment, he decided to keep up the nice guy act, for now.
Just a little playful banter between a couple.
But back home, Amelia paid dearly for her impulsive words in the car.
In front of the big floor-to-ceiling windows, Amelia had to stand there, enduring Henry's relentless advances from behind.
He was anything but sweet!
The next morning, Amelia dragged her sore body to the Anderson Villa.
Walter's lawyer had shown up early and was chatting in the conference room.
As a key beneficiary of the estate, Alexander was there too.
Unlike before, when he'd look at Amelia and Henry with anger, Alexander just stood up and gave a half-hearted nod.
It was like the three of them were just distant relatives who barely knew each other.
Anyone who didn't know their messy history would never guess the tangled web between them.
Amelia was pretty happy with this; after all, no one wanted to be stuck in a long, drawn-out scandal, especially not between two brothers.
She hoped Alexander would stay this calm in the future and not cause any more trouble.
The room was super quiet. Once everyone was there, the lawyer started reading the will.
But he got interrupted halfway through by an agitated Scarlett.
"This will is wrong! Our family was closest to Walter, and Alexander often visited him when he was young. How could he leave so much money to Henry, the bastard?"
Scarlett was convinced that Amelia and Henry had messed with the will.
Given Walter's huge estate, Scarlett naturally wanted to get as much as she could for Alexander.
Especially now that James was clearly fed up with Scarlett and Alexander, and the company might end up in Henry's hands.
That couldn't happen!
She was determined that neither Amelia nor Henry would get a single penny.
Scarlett's voice was loud, echoing harshly in the big room.
Several of Walter's relatives, all big shots, were there.
Hearing Scarlett's crude insults towards Henry, they couldn't hide their disapproval, their brows furrowing in distaste.
James, who cared a lot about his reputation, instantly darkened his expression.
"Don't you have any manners? Don't interrupt when others are speaking."
Scarlett could only glare resentfully at Amelia and Henry before sitting down.
She tried to listen to the rest of the will, but the more she heard, the angrier she got.
Especially when she heard that Walter's condition for leaving the inheritance to Alexander was that he had to go abroad to continue his studies, or he'd lose his status as an heir.
Scarlett lost it.
Alexander was already on thin ice with the Anderson family, and James had zero patience left for him.
Even though they lived under the same roof, they sometimes went a whole week without saying a word to each other.
Alexander had become more and more withdrawn, often locking himself in his room for hours, just staring at the ceiling.
If it weren't for Scarlett trying to smooth things over, the family business might already be in Henry's hands!
But now, Walter was using the inheritance to send Alexander away, basically kicking him out.
By the time Alexander got back, Henry's grip on the Anderson Group would be rock solid.
At that point, even if Scarlett and Alexander teamed up, James's words might not mean squat.
What a sneaky old man!
Scarlett had respected Walter so much before, but she never thought he'd scheme against her and Alexander even on his deathbed!
Consumed by these thoughts, Scarlett blamed Amelia for everything.
If Amelia hadn't stirred things up before Walter's death, he wouldn't have come up with such a condition.
Unlike Scarlett's rage, Alexander felt a gnawing worry.
Walter feared that Alexander's reckless youth would lead him to mess with Amelia and Henry again, ruining himself in the process. So he wanted Alexander to spend a few years abroad to grow up a bit.
Alexander's thoughts drifted to Walter, lying on his deathbed, life slipping away.
A wave of sorrow washed over him.
At this moment, the rebellious teenager finally realized how much trouble his past actions had caused for himself and those around him.
Scarlett stood up abruptly, ready to argue with everyone, but Alexander stopped her first. "Mom, I'll listen to Walter. It's just studying abroad. I'm willing."
Scarlett looked at Alexander's fearless demeanor and felt a deep ache in her heart.
A year ago, Alexander had been the golden boy, with a privileged background and a vast business empire waiting for him to inherit.
His striking looks could have landed him a modeling gig.
But now?
Alexander had to bow to Henry repeatedly, and Scarlett couldn't swallow this bitter pill!
Meanwhile, the lawyer had almost finished reading the will. To Amelia's surprise, Walter left her something unexpected.
It was a red shawl. Others might have been puzzled, but Amelia's eyes welled up with tears.
It was the shawl Lyric used to tease Amelia with when she was alive, said to be custom-made.
Its true significance lay in being a token of love between Walter and Lyric.
Lyric wore this shawl when she married Walter, and Walter had loved her as he promised on their wedding day.
This wasn't just a shawl; it was a beautiful blessing for their marriage.
Reminiscing, Amelia felt a pang of sadness.
She stood up and draped the shawl over her shoulders, the vibrant red enhancing her beauty, her lips looking almost as if they bled.
The will was finally read, and Amelia stood up, stretching her sore back.
Scarlett relentlessly pursued the lawyer, questioning the will's specifics, convinced it had been tampered with.
With everything settled, there was no point in wasting more time.
Amelia and Henry didn't stick around and left the Anderson Villa.
As they were leaving, James called out to them from behind. "In such a hurry? Won't you stay for a meal?"
