Chapter twenty

Bayley

I walked angrily to the living room and saw Olivia happily back on her phone, giggling and chatting away. She was oblivious to the way I was feeling till I walked past her, she looked up to my face and her own smile dialed down upon seeing my frown.

“Bay, what’s the matter with you? You seem angry, or why are you frowning so much?” She asked but I kept quiet, I was just too angry to talk to her right now, and I didn’t want to say anything that will in turn get her mad at me or something, I just needed her to know I was cross with her, she had lifted my hopes up after all.

“Bayley, c’mon, talk to me, I’m talking to you, what is the matter?” she asked again, I took the initiative to answer this time around.

“Liv, I thought you said you’d talk to your brother for me, break the ice and all that, so it can be a smooth ride between us both, or did you not promise me that?” I questioned her, she frowned a little.

“Yeah, I said that, I made the promise, but then, why are you angry?” She asked not really getting the point I’m driving at, I rolled my eyes.

“So why haven’t you told him yet, about me and about what you want the both of us to be uhn, why haven’t you because he is actually giving me a cold shoulder now?” I asked her, I was actually close to tears and was doing my best not to cry.

“Oh Bay, c’mon, I was going to tell him about you today but he came home in that foul mood, looking angry and all, you witnessed it after all. What would you have want me do in that situation huh?” She asked getting defensive.

“But Olivia, it has been a while since we came up with this idea and plan, so why is it taking you so long to tell him?” I asked still not backing down either, it’s been over a week at least or even more.

“Ok, Ok, so is that the reason why you’re so angry?” she asked me now visibly relaxing.

“Of course, why wouldn’t I be, he told me to get out of his room like I’m a piece of trash, can you just imagine how I’m feeling at that?” I asked her.

“Hey, ok, ok, I’m so sorry bestie. I’ll definitely talk to him real soon, at least he is calm now, so that has increased the chances” she said reassuringly.

“Well, it better be Liv and it should be pretty soon too” I said to her, I was already calm as well, well, I couldn’t stay angry, not at my best friend about to become sister-in-law.

“Awwn, c’mon lover girl” she said smiling and winked at me. “Stop that” I said blushing all over.

I couldn’t get over a particular feeling of dread though, especially when we were at Victor’s, I was filled with the feeling of dread as soon as I entered his room, at first I thought it was because of the devastation and destruction to his room, but when he spoke, the feeling kept getting renewed and refreshed in me, but I suppressed it because of my feelings for him were more powerful than the dreadful feeling, besides, what was there to be dreading, he is just a man as well after all.

** Layla

Martha was in my room when I got back in there after shutting the door behind me, she got a worried expression on her face when she saw me clutching my chest and breathing hard while tears flowed out. She was sitting on the bed so I rushed to meet her and collapsed on her laps crying my heart out, she let me cry for as long as I wanted, all she did was caress my hair while she hummed softly.

After I was sated with the crying, I noticed there was a large and old book on her laps as well, inches from where I placed my head, “What’s this?” I asked her, bringing my head up to look at her and she smiled somewhat sadly at me.

“Oh this old thing? Just see it as a tool, a guide, a way to help you harness and garner your abilities and train yourself in the better use of your powers” she said to me totally shocking me with her words, does she really know about the powers? I decided to play dumb.

“Uhm? Abilities? Powers? C’mon what are you talking about Martha?” I said in a tone that suggested that I was absolutely clueless about what she was saying, but then, she just smiled sadly at me again and waved her hand over my head.

In that instant, my hair changed from the dark brown color I had dyed it to, back to their original fiery red color, I immediately felt threatened even though I don’t know why, and with that feeling, my eyes glowed brightly in their blue hue.

“It is so rare to see and meet someone of a major witch bloodline these days, and even more rare to see someone of that bloodline awaken instantaneously to their powers, even though it was a really late blooming” Martha said right after, wait what?! Dud she just say Witch? Is that what I

am? I puzzled myself as my glowing eyes dimmed and my hair once again retained the dark brown tint, then she continued.

“It shouldn’t have been possible without you being born into a coven and awakened by the elders of the coven, the only other ways I know that a powerful bloodline witch is awakened is by the use of a catalyst, very dangerous but very effective, with that being said, I believe I already know how you got awakened” she said not really looking at me as she kept explaining and I, who had been seeking an explanation all these while listened with rapt attention.

“You have been intimate with the young master haven’t you? Close and tight enough for his blood to have somehow found its way into your body system” she said factually, and it actually took me a few seconds before I remembered the incident of the broken glass and unexplained blood which I suspected that I had ingested.

My eyes widened at the realization and Martha chuckled, another sad sound despite what it was, “Well, it is what it is, and what will be will be, you have awakened, so now you must learn to properly wield this power you have unlocked” she told me, “There are very few of us left, there are lesser and lesser awakenings and there are those who are also like us but are of bad and evil intent, ironically, they are the ones thriving now, they will come for you when you’re ripe, you’ll need to be able to stand your ground against them, and for that, you’ll need this grimoire and a coven, one that is not of bad and evil intent” she said and I noticed her careful use of words, she did not say a good coven or a coven of white witches or something, she said a coven without bad or evil intents.

I had loads of questions to ask her, obviously from her words and the reveal ability she used on me, she is a witch as well, “Why don’t you train me yourself, why leave me to it, to learn from a grimoire, and as for the coven, why not let me join yours or don’t you have a coven?” I asked the ones that seemed most important first and again she gave me the sad smile.

“I made a terrible mistake a few years ago and it affected two innocent lives, one is still alive and tainted till today, ever since then, I have sworn to stop practicing and would only use my abilities to safeguard that particular one still alive, protect him from the shadows but never for my own gain or any other thing” she said to me, opening up more questions to the millions that I already had in my mind, before I could ask any though, we heard a knock at the door.

“Come in” I said and the door opened as a maid walked in, I remembered her name was Julie.

“Uhm, Layla, Mr. Victor requests to see you in his room now” she said and left after I nodded my acknowledgement, I turned to face Martha after wanting to ignore the summon and continue the conversation about the new direction of my life.

“Go and answer him, I believe he wants to apologize to you, one thing you should also know is that, since he is your catalyst, your fates have been intertwined, be very careful how you deal with whatever transpires between you both” she said and I nodded grimly, I walked out of the room and headed to Victor’s room.

“Sir? You sent for me?” I asked when I got to his room, I don’t know how, but his room has been restored, how that could have happened in about two hours was beyond me. The only evidence that anything happened here was that the room was way scanty than before, his TV and playstation were gone, as well as a couple other things.

“Yeah I did Layla…” He said and walked up to me then he held my hands in his.

“I’m truly sorry for what happened earlier” he said looking into my eyes, but I couldn’t bare to look into his, not with all I’ve actually got going on in my mind about the recent discoveries I’ve made.

“It’s fine Sir, I’m sorry too, for… whatever…” I said feeling mushy already, his charms were about to start working on me, so I tried to break the hold but he held on to me.

“Hey, Layla, hold on, please would you follow me to a launch party I have in two days as my date?” he asked, leaving me yet again in state of shock with that question.

“What?!” I said…
