121- Don't come back injured
**VITTORIO CASSINI'S POV**
I get ready to leave and head to the address the detective gave me. I'll personally investigate that witness. It's very strange for someone to claim they were passing by the location and got shot, as this road is deserted and few people pass through there.
I step into the office, open the drawer with the electronic password, and grab my favorite gun. Giullia enters the office, looking at me closely as I check if the gun is properly loaded.
On the TV that's on, an urgent news report starts, and I watch attentively. The reporter is in a specific location and speaks into the microphone:
_**"The police commander in Milan has just had an accident. A collision occurred, and he and the driver of the other car passed away. The tragedy happened a few hours ago, and the police deeply regret the incident."**_
Enzo did a good job, of making it clear that this wasn't a murder, but rather an unfortunate accident.
"You're responsible for this, aren't you?" Giullia asks unexpectedly.
"To kill or be killed. In the world of crime, it's either you die or you kill." I holster the gun and cover it with my shirt.
"Children shouldn't have access to this office. Never!" She looks around.
"That's why everything has digital passwords, just like the door. Don't worry." I smile and approach her.
I brush some hair strands off Giullia's face and tuck them behind her ear. I remember the moments we shared in the bathroom not long ago; it was intense and delightful. I kiss the top of her head and caress her soft skin.
"I'll bake cakes with the kids, they've been asking for them. Then I'll close the deal with the real estate broker," Giullia informs.
I can't explain it, but ever since I saw that man, I can't shake off a bad feeling. I know my jealousy seeing him look at my wife with desire is evident, but it's not just that.
"You do remember you're engaged and need to start choosing details for the wedding."
I lift her hand and bring it to my lips, kissing her fingers and also the ring that reminds us of our commitment.
"I'll do that, but I don't want any extravagant celebration. Something intimate!" She advises.
"I share the same opinion. Now let me go, I have something very important to deal with."
I smile and walk towards the door. As I open it and am about to pass through, I hear Giullia's voice calling out to me.
"Don't come back injured, please!" She pleads.
I look at Giullia and remember that frightened look. She always looked at me like that when I went out on a mission. As a leader, I don't engage in bloody battles; I have an army for that. But sometimes it becomes necessary.
"I won't come back injured!" I smile and hurry out.
I walk out of the house and notice it's empty. The children are missed when they're not running around. Given the time, they might be napping or studying in their rooms.
As I pass through the main door and walk down the driveway, the car is parked near the fountain along with other vehicles that carry the men who provide security. Enzo accompanies me, and we get into the passenger seat.
"Good job, the detective died tragically," I smile and look at the driver who drives us towards the gate.
"Soon, the police will elect a new detective. Will this not affect our business, sir?" Enzo asks.
As the deceased detective has been in this position for many years, Enzo doesn't understand the maneuvers the mafia makes with the police. It's years of learning from this life, and that's trivial compared to the problems I'm having with this person seeking revenge.
"The next detective has been waiting for this position for a long time. I choose who will take over this post. Money, my dear Enzo. Everything for money." I smile and observe the path we're taking.
We drive through the streets of Milan, and the experienced driver heads to the location indicated on the paper. It's a simple neighborhood, with traditional houses and the everyday calmness before our eyes. Searching for the indicated street, I notice the driver stops in front of a small house. The first thing I notice is a high-value motorcycle in the garage. For someone with a house like this, it wouldn't be appropriate to own such an expensive motorcycle.
I step out of the car, followed by ten men. They spread out, and five accompany me. I cross the small lawn and reach the wooden door, ringing the doorbell. I could just kick this door, but I'm in a good mood and will be kind.
A man opens the door, and when he looks at us, he rolls his eyes.
"Get lost, I'm not in the mood for trouble!" He unexpectedly shuts it.
Before he can lock it, I intervene, placing my hand on the door and preventing it from closing.
"What's up, man?" He complains.
My men push the door and hold the unknown man. I enter calmly, looking around and observing the simple house.
"So, you decided to buy a motorcycle that costs a lot of euros but can't buy a new sofa? That's pitiful." I roll my eyes, disgusted with the place. I put my hands in my pockets and walk calmly. "What's your name? Be nice and enjoy my good mood."
"Why do you want to know my name?" He provokes.
Enzo points the gun at the man's head, who immediately trembles. I look around and see he's alone, which is good. I don't like doing this in front of women or children.
"The boss is asking for your name, idiot!" Enzo speaks through gritted teeth. My right-hand man in crime is less patient than I am.
"Vicente!" He responds, looking at the gun and trembling.
I try to recall this name, but no memory comes to mind. I grimace and sigh.
"Shall we have a frank conversation, Vicente? Or do you prefer the hard way?"
I threaten, getting closer to him and staring into his eyes. I hope he doesn't take long to tell me everything I want. No one will go unpunished; I'll do whatever it takes, and when I get hold of the mastermind behind the attacks, I'll kill him with my own hands.
