Chapter 284 Until Death Ends It
Chapter 284 Until Death Ends It
Arthur's eyes darkened further, and the oppressive atmosphere around him was terrifying. "If you've got a problem, come at me directly. Going after others just shows that's all you're capable of."
"Ha, what else did you think I was capable of?"
Chase deliberately provoked him. "But surely Mr. Grant doesn't think you can protect whoever I want to go after?"
"Honestly, I've been holding back. Otherwise, would your son be able to go to school peacefully?"
As soon as the words left his mouth, Arthur suddenly stepped forward, slamming one hand on the desk, his gaze fierce as he stared at Chase.
"If you dare touch them, I'll make the entire Baldwin Group pay the price. I mean what I say!"
The amusement in Chase's eyes was replaced by a sinister look as he stared back at Arthur. "Fine. Then I'll wait and see!"
Arthur's eyes churned with murderous intent. "Chase, don't push me."
Chase met his gaze and instead let out a low laugh.
"Push you?"
His eyes grew even colder. "Arthur, when have you ever had limits? When you did those things back then, did you think about limits?"
He took two steps closer, the tension between them intensifying.
"Now you want to talk to me about limits? Too late."
Chase's eyes were poisonous. "I'm going after her. I want to watch you lose control. The more you care about her, the more I'll destroy everything she cares about."
Arthur's expression darkened sharply, the pressure around him almost suffocating, his tone icy. "You have no right to bring up what happened back then."
His voice was cold. "Back then, you used dirty tricks. When you lose, you should accept it."
Chase looked at Arthur as if he'd heard the biggest joke, his laugh cold. "I'm dirty? Ha..."
He paused, his tone sinister. "Then let me formally notify Mr. Grant that this incident is just the beginning. Between us, it's a fight to the death!"
These words completely ignited Arthur's fury.
Arthur's eyes churned with destructive rage. "A fight to the death! But rest assured, the one who dies will be you!"
Chase casually pushed his tongue against his cheek, his tone leisurely. "Then I'll wait and see!"
Arthur didn't stay any longer. He turned and left directly, slamming Chase's office door hard on his way out.
Chase watched the slammed door with a cold smile. The show had begun.
After leaving Baldwin Group, Arthur went straight to the flower shop. Aria was accompanying Jasper, building blocks in the corner.
Watching this warm scene, he suppressed the murderous aura around him before walking in.
Aria looked up and saw him, her expression pausing slightly. "Isn't the company busy?"
At this time, he should be at the company. Why had he come here?
Arthur nodded, signaling Jasper to go play elsewhere—he and Aria needed to talk.
Jasper was sensible enough to obediently go to the side.
Aria was somewhat puzzled. "What's wrong?"
Arthur didn't hide anything. "I went to see Chase."
Aria's expression froze, looking at him with some surprise, saying nothing.
Then Arthur continued, "This whole thing—he did it."
Aria's face changed slightly. For a moment, she didn't know what to say. After a moment of silence, she asked, "Why?"
"His target is me. I've dragged you into this."
Arthur's words carried deep guilt.
If it weren't for him, they wouldn't have been pulled into this.
"I'll handle this. Starting today, I'll arrange for people to protect you and Jasper."
Aria was stunned and instinctively frowned. "Protection? Isn't that too much? He's just targeting the project. There's no need to go that far, right?"
She really couldn't understand why a simple project dispute needed to escalate to personal protection.
Arthur's expression darkened as he looked at the confusion in her eyes. After a moment of silence, he finally spoke. "The grudge between him and me goes far beyond this."
Aria froze, seeing his grave expression. Her heart inexplicably tightened, and she didn't interrupt.
Arthur lowered his eyes, his voice deep and hoarse as he slowly revealed the past that had been buried for years. "Five years ago, he and I were in a business war. The competition was intense."
"Chase had a fiancée at the time. They were about to get married."
He paused, his Adam's apple bobbing. "On the most critical night of that business war, his fiancée drove to see Chase. She got into a serious car accident on the way and died on the spot."
Aria's breath caught. She hadn't expected such a story behind this.
"The accident was just that—an accident."
Arthur looked up, his gaze carrying helplessness and coldness. "But Chase doesn't see it that way. He's convinced that I tampered with things behind the scenes to win the business war, which led to his fiancée's death."
"Since then, he's hated me deeply, targeting me at every turn, finding ways to get revenge."
"Your project this time, and everything before—it's all his doing. He can't get to me, so he goes after people I care about, wanting to see me suffer."
When he finished speaking, the air fell silent.
Aria stared at him blankly, her heart a jumble of emotions.
So the grudge between them involved a death.
No wonder Chase acted so extreme.
No wonder Arthur was so worried about her and Jasper.
She had thought it was just ordinary business competition, never imagining such a heavy past was hidden behind it.
Arthur looked at her expression and softened his tone. "So he won't give up easily. Between him and me, it's now a fight to the death. He'll definitely go after you and Jasper again."
Arthur paused. "Aria, I can't bear the consequences of something happening to you two, so I must arrange protection for you."
Aria was silent for a long time before gently nodding. "Okay, I understand."
Arthur seemed to remember something and continued, "I'll send people to take over the follow-up on that project."
Aria looked up at him. "But that's the flower shop's project."
"It'll still be under the flower shop's name."
Arthur interrupted her. "The plan will follow what you originally set. Since Chase has already tampered with the project, it means he wants to use it to do something. I know his methods."
Aria hesitated but didn't insist too much, nodding. "Okay."
Aria naturally knew this wasn't a joke.
Right now, it was like when gods fight, mortals suffer.
She didn't want her flower shop to have problems because of the conflict between these two, so after Arthur's explanation, she didn't act stubborn and let Arthur make the arrangements.
As he said, after all these years between him and Chase, they understood each other's methods best. Arthur knew better than her how to deal with Chase.
So she had nothing to be stubborn about.
Things were exactly as Arthur had thought. Chase was indeed planning to make his move through this floral project, and the business war between Grant Corp and Baldwin Group was also kicked off by this project.
