Chapter 109 Did I Make Any Enemies?
Arthur was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Sophie wasn't injured, just fainted from shock. She woke up right on time when they arrived at the hospital. Looking at the crowd of people around her, Sophie appeared frightened and grabbed Elizabeth's hand precisely. "Auntie, where's Arthur? How is Arthur?"
Elizabeth felt the tug on her hand and looked down to find Sophie, who was lying on the hospital bed, had woken up. "Sophie, how are you? Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?"
Even though Elizabeth didn't have much resistance toward Sophie in her heart, her son was injured because of her, so Elizabeth couldn't be too friendly toward her either.
Sophie shook her head gently, her expression full of worry. "No, where's Arthur?"
Elizabeth let out a deep sigh. "He's in the emergency room right now. We don't know how he is yet."
Elizabeth's words were filled with deep concern. What a disaster! How did things turn out like this out of nowhere!
"I want to go see him."
"You should let the doctor check you first. He's in the emergency room now, we can't see him anyway."
"Auntie, I'm really fine. I'm worried about him. Please let me go!"
Sophie's words were full of concern, her tone insistent.
Seeing Sophie's persistence, Elizabeth couldn't worry about much else and could only nod in agreement. "Alright then, but tell us immediately if you feel uncomfortable anywhere."
"Okay!"
While waiting for Arthur's emergency treatment, several police officers came looking for Sophie.
"Excuse me, which one of you is Sophie?"
Some of the guests who had followed them over all turned their eyes toward Sophie.
Sophie also stood up under everyone's gaze, looking at the police officers with teary eyes. "That's me. What's the matter?"
"It's like this - someone reported the accident at your wedding to the police. After our personnel investigated the scene, they found signs of deliberate loosening of the crystal chandelier's mounting..."
The police officer informed Sophie of their purpose.
Sophie's pupils suddenly contracted when she heard this. She looked at the officer in disbelief. "What did you say? Signs of deliberate loosening? How could that be?"
Elizabeth and some of the guests nearby also widened their eyes, filled with disbelief.
Deliberately loosened? That would be attempted murder!
If Arthur hadn't reacted quickly, the problem would have been much more serious.
"Yes, that's what the investigation shows. So we want to ask you, have you had any conflicts with anyone recently? Because judging from that position at the scene, the person who should have been injured was actually you."
Sophie's face turned pale when she heard the officer's words. She instinctively looked at Elizabeth, whose expression was also very grim.
Sophie looked at the guests again, then focused on the police officer. "Officer, can we talk privately?"
The lead officer glanced around at the guests looking their way and nodded slightly.
So Sophie walked aside with the officer, while the remaining officers began taking statements from the guests present.
"Did Miss Smith think of some detail?"
After walking to the side, the lead officer asked directly.
"I don't know. I haven't had conflicts with anyone recently, but if we're talking about people who might resent me..."
Sophie seemed hesitant to continue.
The lead officer's eyes darkened slightly. "Just say whatever comes to mind. You're only providing us with investigation leads. We won't wrongly accuse any innocent person."
Sophie lowered her head and stayed silent for a moment. After a while, as if she had mentally prepared herself, she looked up at the officer with slightly red eyes. "The person who set up our venue was my husband's ex-wife. I don't know if she might resent me... but there hasn't been any real conflict between us... This is just my guess."
The officer nodded knowingly. "Alright, I understand. We'll investigate this matter specifically. We can only draw conclusions after the investigation results come out."
Sophie nodded in gratitude. "Thank you, officer."
When the officer and Sophie walked back, the other officers had also finished taking statements from the guests.
After the police left, Elizabeth apologized to the guests and let them go home first.
Suddenly, the corridor that had been packed with people was left with only Elizabeth, Sophie, Connor, and a few others.
Elizabeth looked at Sophie with concern. "What did the police say just now?"
Sophie shook her head gently. "Nothing much. He just asked if I suspected anyone."
"And?"
"Auntie, our wedding venue happened to be set up by Ms. Hall's studio..."
Sophie didn't continue, but Elizabeth understood what she meant.
Elizabeth's brows furrowed tightly, and she instinctively denied it. "Aria isn't that kind of person."
Seeing Elizabeth defend Aria so much, Sophie felt somewhat displeased, but she didn't show her displeasure. She just nodded gently. "Auntie, I know what you mean. I also think Ms. Hall probably isn't that kind of person. The police will investigate it specifically. If Ms. Hall didn't do it, they definitely won't wrongly accuse her, but if she did..."
Sophie didn't finish the rest of her sentence.
Elizabeth understood what she meant. If it really was Aria who did it, things would probably get complicated, and she might even face jail time...
Connor, who was standing nearby listening to their conversation, narrowed his eyes. After exchanging a glance with Sophie, he cleared his throat and said, "Arthur hasn't woken up yet. I'll go to the company first to prevent any chaos if this incident spreads."
Sophie quickly nodded. "Okay, Dad, you go to the company first. I'll tell you when Arthur wakes up."
Elizabeth didn't think much of it and nodded in agreement. "Alright."
After Connor left, Elizabeth thought for a moment and still walked aside to contact Aria. However, no one answered the call she made, which gave Elizabeth a bad feeling. Could something have happened?
Something had indeed happened on Aria's end. As soon as she returned to the studio, police came looking for her.
"Are you Ms. Aria Hall?"
Aria looked at the several police officers in front of her and nodded. "Yes, what can I do for you?"
"It's like this - we're investigating the crystal chandelier falling case at the Five-Star Hotel. We heard that the entire wedding venue was set up by your studio, is that correct?"
The police stated their purpose.
Aria immediately understood. So they were suspecting them?
She had anticipated this situation, which was why she wasn't too surprised.
But this also confirmed a certain suspicion in her mind - this accident was probably targeting her.
"Yes, but we conducted safety tests. This shouldn't have happened under normal circumstances. When I learned about the accident, I was also very surprised."
"In that case, please come with us to the police station."
