Chapter 108 Accident
The Wedding Day
Sophie had contacted many media outlets beforehand. Everyone knew that today was Arthur and Sophie's wedding, so even before the couple arrived, many reporters were already at the venue, waiting to cover the breaking news.
When Arthur arrived at the wedding venue and saw all those reporters, his brows furrowed tightly. He asked his assistant in a low voice, "What's going on? Why are there so many reporters?"
Arthur had deliberately kept this wedding low-key and had the news suppressed. Yet today, so many reporters still showed up.
This meant that after today, everyone would probably know about this wedding.
Arthur resisted this idea, especially since it involved him and Aria...
The assistant's face stiffened. He looked at Arthur nervously. "I don't know either. These reporters somehow got wind of it. What should we do now? Should we kick them out?"
A cold gleam flashed in Arthur's eyes at these words. Given the current situation, kicking the reporters out would probably cause even more trouble.
"No need. But have someone monitor today's coverage. If anyone dares to write nonsense, shut down that media outlet!"
Media people were best at making something out of nothing. Right now, all he could do was control what they reported afterward.
"Yes, sir."
Right after Arthur finished instructing his assistant, Sophie called. He went to find her.
Watching Sophie in her wedding dress, Arthur felt no real emotion. At this moment, his thoughts were mostly on Aria.
He hadn't seen Aria when he left home this morning, and the people he'd sent to follow her hadn't reported back either. This left Arthur distracted.
Sophie naturally noticed Arthur's distraction. Seeing this didn't put her in a good mood either, but she still hid her true feelings, holding Arthur's arm and talking with him until the wedding was about to start. Only then did she go down with Arthur.
Arthur had wanted to keep this wedding low-key and hadn't invited many friends. However, out of respect for Sophie, he had invited Elizabeth.
Sophie was different though. She couldn't wait for the whole world to know about this, so she invited many friends. As a result, most of today's guests were basically her friends.
When they arrived backstage at the wedding, Connor also came. After greeting them, he took Sophie to the main entrance to wait for their entrance.
As the time approached, the host went on stage to begin the ceremony.
"Distinguished guests, hello everyone. I'm today's wedding host. In this beautiful moment, let us witness the happy journey of Mr. Arthur and Ms. Sophie! Let's welcome the couple with applause!"
Following the host's words, Arthur backstage took a deep breath and walked onto the stage.
As soon as Arthur appeared on stage, the reporters kept snapping photos. Looking at those camera flashes, Arthur suppressed the displeasure between his brows and said in a low voice, "For today's wedding, I ask that the reporters present not freely release photos. Thank you for your cooperation."
Arthur's words carried a subtle threatening tone. Though not obvious, everyone caught it.
The host quickly stepped forward to smooth things over. "Please cooperate, reporter friends. Mr. Grant probably wants to keep these sweet moments for his own viewing. Now, let's welcome today's most beautiful bride with warm applause."
As soon as the host finished speaking, the venue doors opened from outside. Sophie stood at the entrance in a white wedding dress, the train spreading like flowing clouds, her veil draped lightly. Backlit, she held Connor's arm, looking at the guests in the venue with smiling eyes.
As the guests' applause rang out, Connor led Sophie toward the stage to the wedding march.
Arthur stood on stage watching Sophie walk toward him step by step, feeling no joy. Instead, he felt guilt—guilt toward Aria.
The closer Sophie got to him, the heavier his guilt became.
It wasn't until Sophie reached Arthur and, at the host's announcement, Connor placed Sophie's hand in Arthur's that he somewhat came back to his senses.
How could Sophie not see Arthur's distraction? A flash of jealous hatred crossed her heart. She didn't need to guess—he must be thinking of Aria.
She knew about what happened between him and Aria yesterday. She had held back from making a scene because she wanted to see Arthur's choice. Now, she understood what he meant.
Originally, she hadn't wanted to go this far, but now, she couldn't hold back anymore!
Also because of Arthur's distraction, he didn't see the moment Sophie's eyes met someone's in the audience, and that person in the shadows nodded in acknowledgment.
After Connor left the stage, the host quickly said, "It seems our groom is too excited. He's stunned by our bride's beauty."
The host found a good excuse for Arthur's distraction.
Sophie also spoke up at the right time, calling out, "Arthur..."
As soon as she finished speaking, there was suddenly a cry of alarm from below, "Watch out!"
Arthur was also startled by this cry. Following everyone's gaze, he saw the huge crystal chandelier above Sophie's head falling down. Without time to think, Arthur quickly pulled Sophie into his arms. At the same time, he switched positions, protecting Sophie well in his embrace.
The falling crystal chandelier, due to their position switch, crashed onto Arthur.
"Arthur!"
"Arthur!"
The guests below quickly stood up, and Arthur's friends rushed over.
With everyone's efforts, they moved the crystal chandelier off Arthur, revealing the unconscious Arthur who had been knocked out, and Sophie, who had fainted from shock while being protected in his arms.
Seeing the blood on Arthur, everyone quickly called 911 and sent Arthur and Sophie to the hospital.
The wedding was also halted due to this sudden accident. The reporters at the scene quickly captured this moment.
No need to guess—this photo would definitely dominate the next day's headlines.
Aria had originally been mixed in among the reporters wearing a mask, wanting to photograph more evidence of Arthur's bigamy to use for filing for divorce.
But she didn't expect to witness this scene.
After the crowd dispersed and only some staff remained at the scene making phone calls, Aria didn't stay long and left with the crowd.
After leaving the hotel, she called Lucy to ask about the venue setup.
Why would the crystal chandelier suddenly fall for no reason?
These things were supposed to go through safety inspections. Such a major error shouldn't happen, but now this kind of accident occurred at such a formal occasion. Aria felt that there must be something fishy going on...
