Chapter 24 A mistake that should never happen again…
Brad
I honestly didn’t see that kiss coming. It happened in the heat of the moment before either of us could react.
It lasted only about a second but it felt like a whole hour. I mean, I was so lost in those soft lips of hers. They were so tasty and inviting that I found myself drowning in them. But then, she jumped up and ran off. She probably thinks she initiated it and now feels embarrassed. If only she had stopped when I called her back. I would have explained that she wasn’t at fault and I don’t regret.
I really don’t and if I have it my way, I would really steal more time for us. It was too sweet of a kiss to only last a second.
I watched as she ran off and since there was nothing I could do, I leaned back into the chair and just replayed the second over and over in my head.
I stayed with the thought for about an hour before I finally went to my room. I couldn’t sleep so I decided to just work instead. My phone started to ring then and I wondered who was asking that late in the night.
I checked and it was Ryan, which was surprising because he never calls that late. He’s even an early sleeper so he should be fast asleep by this time.
“Hey, I hope you haven’t gotten yourself into trouble now?” I asked once I answered the phone. He burst into laughter and that was enough to tell me he was all good.
“Relax, I’m all good. I just need your help urgently. Remember the file I showed you earlier in the week, the meeting is tomorrow and I’m trying to prepare the final slide now. I noticed some discrepancies which I have not been able to solve in the last couple of hours. That’s why I’m calling. I need your help.” He explained while I sighed.
“No problem, I’m working at the moment too. Just share your screen with me and we can go over it together.” I let out.
“That’s my man!” He exclaimed.
He shared the screen and we went over it as agreed. It took some time but we were able to figure it out.
“Thank you so much. Are you sure you’re good though? You seemed both giggly and worried at the same time?” He let out and I just raked my hands through my hair.
“You really know me so well, don’t you?” I replied.
“Yeah, so talk to me.” He insisted.
“Well, something happened tonight and I don’t know what tomorrow holds anymore.” I revealed and he burst into laughter. I wasn’t surprised though, I already anticipated it and he didn’t fail me.
“Sorry about that. It’s just that you’re sounding so serious and I know it’s probably nothing of sort. You’re fond of magnifying things. Relax and talk to me.” He replied.
“Well, Vivian ahd I kissed and I think she’s upset about it. She’s probably going to ask me to move out in the morning and I’ll be back looking for a new place.” I explained and he burst into laughter again.
“Ohh please, will you stop being so dramatic? I’m sure Vivian isn’t even thinking about it and here you are, already drawing up a thousand scenarios in your head. It’s just a kiss, what if you guys had sex? You will sue yourself before she even says anything? Relax, you’re a man and you shouldn’t be so worked up about this things. It’s a normal thing and no, she won’t ask you to move out. She can’t do that even if she wants to. And trust me, I can bet a thousand dollars that she likes it too. But women are smarter with their emotions when it comes to things like this. She’s going to pretend like it means nothing but it does. Unless you have fallen in love with her, I’d advise you not to push things. Wait till morning and let things play out on theur own.” He explained and I sighed deeply.
“Thanks, man. I have to go now. Work calls in the morning.” I said and we hung up.
I didn’t try to think about it again. I just stood up, got in bed and slept right off.
I woke up a bit late in the morning so I quickly rushed through things. I was soon done and I rushed out. I was only going to get a bottle of water and maybe order breakfast at the office.
I got in the kitchen and there on the counter were two plates of food.
“You cooked?” I didn’t know when the words got out of my mouth.
Of course I know she cooks but I’d never seen her actually cook. All she does when I’m around is make smoothies.
“Good morning to you too, and yeah, I cooked. Surprised I did?” She asked.
“Yeah, good morning. Uhm… I’m not surprised. Thank you.” I said and then sat down quickly to eat.
“About last night,” she finally started. I was already expecting her to talk about it. I was about thinking she wouldn’t when she finally talked.
“I’m so sorry that happened. It was my fault and I take res…” I let out but she waved me to stop.
“Nah, don’t do that. It’s nobody’s fault and if we’d push blames, it would be on the champagne. Since we can’t do that, then there’s no point pointing fingers. The kiss was nothing, just a spur of the moment, nothing more and it would never be more than that. Also, it should never repeat itself. There are rules and they are there to prevent things like last night from happening.” She explained.
I wanted to say something at first but then I remembered what Ryan told me last night, and I didn’t. I swallowed my words and just nodded instead.
“Yeah, you’re right. It should never happen again.” I affirmed.
“Perfect.” She replied and we both went mute. Silence filled the air around us while we went on eating.
“How is the food?” She asked, finally breaking the silence.
“Really nice. I love it.” I replied and that was it.
We went back to eating in silence again. I had a few things in mind that could lighten the mood but I just had to read the room.
I didn’t want things more awkward than they already were so I quickly rushed my food and got up.
I did the dishes, grabbed my things and made my way out.
“Thanks for yesterday food and have a nice day.” I chimed in.
“Yeah, and you too.” She replied…
