Chapter 403
Chapter 403
The wound wasn't deep. After the doctor bandaged me up, we headed home.
From the moment I met up with Levi until now, he hadn't said a single word—he just stayed by my side.
Faye had explained everything, telling him how Cleo had come to the house demanding her documents. Levi showed no reaction. He only glanced at me occasionally.
Everyone remained silent, as if bracing for an even bigger storm.
The moment we got out of the car, I heard voices coming from the living room. I'd thought everything would've settled down by now, but apparently no one had left.
"Faye, why don't you go rest."
I was the first to break the silence.
She tightened her grip on my arm and whispered, "Blair, I should stay with you."
We walked forward slowly. I'd assumed everyone would've left by now, but they were all waiting for me to come back.
A bitter taste spread through my chest. Even my injury had caused this much commotion. Especially Cleo—she'd pushed me, yet she hadn't stormed off in a rage.
Maybe she felt some shame under Aiden's pressure.
But after all these years, if she'd had even a shred of sympathy for me, she wouldn't keep causing me trouble.
"Blair, how are you? What did the doctor say?"
The moment Natalia saw me, she jumped up and rushed over.
"It's nothing serious. Just needs time to heal. Everyone should get some rest—it's getting late."
Aiden and Rhea stood up too. Cleo shot me a glance but said nothing. In the past, she probably would've accused them all of overreacting.
If I weren't pregnant, she would've left long ago.
"Levi, tell me honestly—is Blair really okay?"
Natalia thought I was downplaying things.
"If there was nothing wrong, we wouldn't have gone to the hospital."
Levi's tone was ice-cold. Perhaps he'd been suppressing his emotions for too long—he wasn't even showing his own mother any courtesy now.
His words immediately set Cleo off.
"What's that supposed to mean? If she hadn't interfered, none of this would've happened."
The accusation caught in my throat like a bone. When had I interfered? It was clearly her struggle with Natalia that caused everything. How was I suddenly involved?
All I'd done was offer a word of gentle advice. I'd simply reminded her that Michael wasn't truly remorseful—that he hadn't even cut ties with his mistress.
"What did she interfere with?"
Levi stared at her, demanding an answer.
Cleo blinked, guilt flickering in her eyes. She had no defense.
From start to finish, she'd been the only one making demands, insisting Natalia hand over her documents.
"I just want my documents. It's that simple."
Levi nodded, then looked at Natalia. "Give them to her."
"Levi..."
Natalia looked torn. If she gave Cleo the documents, she'd be watching her jump into a pit of fire.
"We're tired. Tired of dealing with her drama. Can't we just... let it go?"
I'd never seen Levi this defeated. He used to never let anyone hurt Cleo.
"I know I'm causing you trouble, but I can't just stand by and watch Cleo do something foolish. You know what kind of scumbag Michael is."
Natalia was beside herself. She didn't want to burden me, but she was out of options.
"That's her choice."
Levi grabbed my hand. "I have my own life. Can't I just... stop caring?"
This wasn't like him—he wasn't someone who shirked responsibility. He was probably just too upset to think straight. Ever since he got the call about me going to the hospital, he'd probably been barely holding it together.
That's why he'd stayed silent, and now when he finally spoke, the words came out all wrong.
"Perfect. Stay out of it then. That's even better." A smug smile curved Cleo's lips.
Natalia sighed in frustration. "How can you not see you're making a mistake? You want to remarry that man? Forget about the Morgan family's reputation—the important thing is you're walking straight into a trap."
"He's Hayden's father. Hayden needs his intact family. Michael knows he was wrong."
"He's lying to you! Anyone with half a brain would know he's not truly remorseful!"
Natalia laid out the brutal truth—and truth is often the cruelest thing.
Cleo looked up at the ceiling with a bitter laugh. "Are you saying your lives are perfect? I don't believe you've never had disagreements. I'm willing to give him a chance."
"He just made a mistake that plenty of men make. You're telling me you haven't? What about you and Jessa? Everyone knows about that, don't they?"
Her accusation tore open the wound in my heart without mercy.
Aiden's cane struck the floor hard, his trembling hand no longer able to contain his rage.
"Don't get worked up—your blood pressure's been dangerously high lately." Rhea tried to calm him.
That's when I learned about Aiden's high blood pressure.
"Nothing to say now?"
Cleo's challenging gaze bore into Levi.
Then she turned to me. "Back when he was living it up with Jessa, didn't you choose to forgive him too?"
It was one thing for others to throw my pain in my face, but for it to come from Levi's own sister—for her to drag up the past we all avoided mentioning just to justify her remarriage—that was pouring salt in my wounds.
Faye released my arm and stepped in front of me.
"That's completely different. Yes, Levi had a relationship with Jessa for a while, but he was truly remorseful. Now he's devoted to Blair completely."
"Devoted completely..."
"But you're different. Michael hasn't truly changed at all. He's still seeing his mistress. And right now, she's pregnant."
"You're lying!"
Cleo's face darkened instantly.
Faye bit her lip, hesitating.
"You've only been here a few days—what could you possibly know? You're just trying to suck up to her so you can stay here. You'll say anything!"
"Me, trying to stay here?" Faye spread her hands. "I'm staying at Levi's house. He’s happy to have me. Why would I need to suck up to anyone?"
Cleo pointed at her nose. "You ungrateful brat! Who's your real sister?"
Faye shook her head helplessly. "I wasn't planning to say anything. When I found out the truth, I was going to keep quiet. But now you're being ridiculous—you want to remarry him."
"You investigated?"
"Natalia's been miserable over your situation every single day. What's wrong with me looking into it? Levi and Blair have been holding back from telling you because they were afraid you couldn't handle it."
I closed my eyes. Her drama had turned the entire household upside down.
And Cleo still wanted to fight with everyone over Michael—even dragging up Levi and Jessa's past to hurt us again and again.
"Enough! This family is cursed!"
Aiden coughed violently, his anger overwhelming him. Natalia stood frozen, helpless.
The whole house was drowning in the shadow of the truth.
Cleo nodded slowly. "Fine, fine. You're all against me. Keep the documents. I'll go ask him myself right now."
Everyone watched her dejected figure leave, their hearts a tangled mess of emotions.
