Chapter 391

Chapter 391

Henry was too stunned to speak.

I still remembered the last time he'd brought me up—I'd assumed he'd done his homework thoroughly enough.

"After going through it so many times, I finally figured it out. People like that won't stop until they actually feel real pain."

Even being locked up hadn't made Arabella repent. After she got out, she never stopped hating me.

She was the one who hurt me, yet she must have brainwashed herself over and over, convincing herself that her punishment was my fault—that I caused it all.

Sometimes people's self-spun lies only end up deceiving themselves.

Arabella was exactly that type—utterly self-deceptive!

She'd never felt sorry for any of the terrible things she'd done. Hurting others only gave her a thrill; she felt zero remorse.

So only when she truly lost everything would she finally wake up.

"Mrs. Morgan, I can help you."

"Legal methods won't work. They'll only cage her temporarily. Once she's free, she'll just keep doing bad things—unless she commits a capital crime. But she's actually terrified of death. She doesn't have the guts."

I'd experienced it firsthand. I knew perfectly well that even that time, Arabella hadn't really intended to kill me. She just wanted to use me to extort money from Levi.

"Her behavior indeed hasn't reached the threshold for serious punishment."

"That's exactly how insidious her tactics are. Every time she hurts someone, it makes you grit your teeth in hatred, yet you can't do anything about it."

Henry let out a deep, helpless sigh.

"Take Jenna's brother, for instance. That was purely consensual between them. Jenna and her family are completely powerless—who can talk sense into someone who's totally bewitched?"

"And Jenna's boyfriend—if he had any willpower, how could he be swayed by an older woman like Arabella?"

At the end of the day, these men let their lust take over.

I'd always thought they looked down on Arabella, but money's temptation was just too strong. They wanted shortcuts too badly.

As long as they kept Arabella happy, they wouldn't have to work hard anymore. For ordinary people, that was incredibly tempting.

"Mrs. Morgan, I know what to do now. No matter what, she should pay a price."

Henry was a good person with solid principles. He'd seen far more situations than I had, with much more experience.

If circumstances weren't so special, he would definitely use legal means to punish Arabella.

But legal methods only treated the symptoms, not the root cause. Arabella was the type who wouldn't shed tears until she saw her coffin—and even after seeing it, she'd fight tooth and nail to resurrect herself.

"Just follow the plan. Tell her you've contacted Jenna and that you two met. Pretend to let slip that you're interested in Jenna."

"Why do that?"

"If you show interest in Jenna, she'll panic. She'll have to compete. When the timing's right, you praise her instead—tell her she's the better one."

The more I coached him, the more despicable I felt. My scheming filled me with guilt. This felt so underhanded.

But I didn't seem to have any better options. There was no turning back now—I could only see this plan through to the end.

"Alright, I'll do as you say."

I braced my hand against my lower back and stood up, waving at him. "I'll head out first then. I'm staying home for the rest of my pregnancy, so I'm almost always available. Let's stay in touch."

"Sure, I'll still message you first."

"Good."

I left first. Henry would leave a few minutes later.

The driver took me home, and I realized that aside from home, I seemed to have nowhere else to go. I really was going to stay home and slowly wait for my babies to arrive in my world.

Even though scheming against Arabella made me feel somewhat dark inside, it did add some color to my boring life.

At least it kept me from feeling completely idle.

As soon as I got home, I saw Faye enjoying the shade in the courtyard.

She didn't like air conditioning either. The doctor had advised her to get more sun, and she'd taken it to heart.

"Blair, you actually came back! Indigo said you were coming home to rest today, but I didn't believe it."

The driver handed the storage box to Indigo, then nodded in acknowledgment before leaving.

"Mrs. Morgan, should I put this in your office?"

"Yes, please."

I couldn't take these things to my bedroom. The box contained the settlement agreement between Arabella and me, originally drafted in the Morgan Group's name. Levi absolutely couldn't find it, or it would definitely raise his suspicions.

I went to the pavilion to chat with Faye.

She pushed some pastries toward me. "Finally, someone to keep me company! It's so boring being home alone. Levi won't give me any work, and Sophia doesn't come back anymore either."

"Sophia's not coming back?"

"Levi transferred her to a branch office early. She successfully passed all those certification exams too."

I actually hadn't known about this—Levi had already arranged for her to leave.

"Do you still want to work?"

Faye nodded eagerly. "Yes! Blair, you're not going to have me work at your company, are you? That would be so exciting."

Me staying home while she went to the company sounded reasonable enough, but that wasn't what I was thinking.

"What I mean is, if you want to work, you could go train at the branch office with Sophia. Levi wouldn't object."

"No way..."

Faye pouted. "Making me go work under Sophia? No thanks."

"You've got it wrong. Even after Sophia goes there, she won't be in senior management. Though they'll probably give her a fairly high position."

The Morgan Group had its own advancement system. Even with Levi's endorsement, they wouldn't give Sophia an especially high position—she was fresh out of school, still lacking experience.

"Still not going. The branch office is in another city. I'm not going that far. If I leave, there'll be no one to protect you."

Faye blinked. "Speaking of that old woman, she sent Natalia tons of threatening messages. With people like her causing trouble, I can't rest easy leaving you."

"As long as there's no contact, it'll be fine."

"I think she's probably lying low because of Jessa's situation. Natalia mentioned you helped resolve that matter. Blair, did you meet with her?"

I'd guessed Natalia would tell Faye about this. I'd asked her to arrange a meeting with Arabella initially, but I hadn't gone into detail about what happened afterward. Faye was probably trying to get me to talk.

"I didn't meet her. I had my company's legal team handle it. It's all taken care of now."

"You gave her money?"

"No, the company's legal counsel was really effective. They scared her off."

I'd lied. I didn't want them worrying about this anymore.

Faye made a heart shape with her hands. "Blair, love you! You're so capable. I need to learn more from you."

"Just try to stay calm when things happen and don't be impulsive. People like Arabella have nothing to lose. Just avoid her."

"I'm not afraid of her. I beat her black and blue that day."

Looking at the scabbed-over wounds on her face, I said helplessly, "But you got hurt too. It's not worth it for someone like that."

Faye said proudly, "Blair, I guarantee she won't dare try anything next time."

"Right, there won't be a next time."

"What?"

"I'll go have Indigo make you something good to eat."
