Chapter 388
Chapter 388
Weekend—a day for rest and relaxation.
Just thinking about not having to go to work anymore eased my anxiety.
I was pruning my roses in the garden while Levi read in his study.
Celestia and Faye hadn't come home last night. Natalia told me to rest easy at home and let the girls stay with her over the weekend.
I'd slept pretty well last night, except for waking up twice to use the bathroom.
Levi had slept soundly. He didn't wake once all night. I even pulled the blanket back over him at one point—men must just run hotter, because he could barely keep the covers on.
"Miss Greer, you're here..."
Indigo's voice carried across the garden. I looked toward the entrance and saw Jessa, bundled up tight, walking in.
"Are you here to see Mr. Morgan?"
Indigo followed behind her. Jessa said nothing, just kept her head down as she walked inside.
This early? What was she doing here?
"Where's Levi?"
Jessa's voice was hoarse, like she'd been crying.
"Mr. Morgan is in the study. I'll let him know you're here. Please wait here for a moment."
Indigo looked torn. She knew about the bad blood between Jessa and me, and clearly didn't want her going any farther.
"Fine."
Jessa stopped. She glanced around, and her eyes landed on me.
I felt her body stiffen for a moment. She stared at me for a few seconds, then lowered her head again.
She was here for Levi.
After all these months, she'd come to my house looking for him again?
Maybe she was afraid to meet my eyes. I watched her. She kept her head down.
"Mr. Morgan, Miss Greer is here. She says she needs to see you."
Indigo announced her at the study door. I watched the doorway.
Soon, Levi emerged. His gaze found me first.
"She's waiting for you over there." Indigo pointed in Jessa's direction.
For a moment, Levi stood caught between us—me on one side, Jessa on the other.
I forced a faint smile, said nothing, and turned back to trimming my roses.
After a few seconds of hesitation, Levi went to see Jessa. If he didn't go—if he had Indigo turn her away—that wouldn't be much better.
He wasn't a heartless man. If Jessa came to his door, he'd naturally see her.
I set down my shears and walked over to sit in the gazebo.
Indigo came over with a teapot. "Mrs. Morgan, don't let it bother you. Mr. Morgan's heart is all yours."
"If it runs off to someone else, I can't control that. I've learned to let go. Whatever he does is up to him."
I'd never tried to restrain Levi. I couldn't control him—or rather, I'd never had the chance to.
I'd never forget the heartbreaking things he'd done to me while defending Jessa. I just tried not to remember. That way it hurt less.
They weren't far from me. I could hear what they were saying.
"Levi, can you help me? Please, I'm begging you—will you help me?"
Coming here again, still asking Levi for help. She'd come once before. That time, Levi had refused her.
I understood now. She was here hoping Levi would use his connections to make the online storm and public scrutiny disappear.
Yesterday, only the trending topics about Levi had vanished. Jessa must have guessed it was his doing.
Jessa grabbed his arm. "Please help me. I feel like I'm dying. The company's PR team isn't strong enough—they can't suppress those trending topics at all."
Levi pulled his arm free. He didn't speak.
Indigo practically stomped her foot in frustration. She stood firmly on my side, disgusted by Jessa's behavior.
"Levi, I know I'm putting you in a difficult position, but I really have nowhere else to turn."
"Have you found the source?"
Levi spoke. Of course he couldn't just ignore her.
"I can't find it. I signed a confidentiality agreement with the hospital. The photos must have come from there, but the hospital denies everything."
Of course the hospital would deny it. If it was an intentional leak, they'd be in serious trouble—Jessa could hold them accountable.
But without evidence, complaining to the hospital was useless.
"Get the police involved."
Levi's suggestion was the most direct and effective approach—let the police uncover the truth.
Jessa shook her head. "Waiting for the police to investigate will take too long. My career can't wait. I was just about to make my comeback when this happened."
I didn't know if Jenna was behind this, but whoever it was had real skill—pushing Jessa into the trending topics right as she was returning. That kind of blow would devastate anyone.
"Levi, please help me. You have the resources and the power. Just help me take down the trending topics, okay? I'll file a police report afterward."
Jessa pleaded with Levi.
I knew Levi. He was ruthless and decisive at work, but in his personal life, he softened easily. Once something touched him, compassion would stir in him.
"I'm sorry."
He gave her just those two words. Jessa stumbled back several steps.
Before he could react, Jessa rushed toward me like she'd lost her mind. She dropped to her knees and grabbed my legs.
"Blair, please, I'm begging you—tell Levi to help me. I'll apologize. Everything before was my fault. I promise I'll never appear in your lives again."
I scrambled to my feet, panicking, not knowing what to do.
Indigo clenched her fists. "Miss Greer, what are you doing? Don't frighten Mrs. Morgan—she's carrying a baby. You've gone too far."
Jessa quickly stood up, bowing to me over and over. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I just want you to help me."
I could tell the trending topics had hit her hard. Otherwise, someone as proud as her would never kneel and beg me.
My heart was racing. I didn't know what to do. I looked at Levi, torn.
Levi strode to my side and pulled me into his arms.
"Show her out."
"Yes, Mr. Morgan."
Indigo approached Jessa and extended her hand. "Miss Greer, please leave. Stop bothering Mr. and Mrs. Morgan."
Jessa didn't move. She stared hard at Levi. "Levi, can't you really help me? I truly don't know what else to do..."
When she cried, my heart ached too.
Even though she'd hurt me before, I still couldn't stand to see her cry. I hated myself for not learning—I couldn't help empathizing with her.
Levi's hand tightened protectively around my shoulder. He said nothing.
"Blair, as long as you tell him to help me this once, I'll do anything for you. I'll be your servant."
Jessa made one last plea to me, but I still couldn't bring myself to ask Levi for help on her behalf. I had no standing. She'd hurt me so badly before...
"You should go. Like you said, file a police report or investigate yourself—you'll get an answer eventually. Your company's team will have a strategy too. My husband doesn't have an appropriate solution. Besides, your trending topics made him a victim too."
"All the trending topics about him are gone!"
Jessa sobbed. "I should have known... You won't help me anymore..."
