EPILOGUE
"Junior! You better not be doing what I think you're doing!"
Phoebe ran out into the backyard and found her four-year-old son, Jamie Watson Junior, digging out the soil and picking out Earthworms, dropping them into a jar. He giggled when he saw her and ran to her, hugging her legs.
"Hello, Mommy."
"Hey, baby." He raised his jar so she could see the tiny earthworms moving about in the jar.
"Mommy, look, I got lots of earthworms for you and my sister."
"Okay, baby. But I don't think that your baby will like that. I've told you, we're not sure if it's a girl yet."
"It's a girl, love. A girl as beautiful as her mother."
Junior carefully dropped his jar and ran to hug his father. He was a spitting of him, Phoebe's heart clenched as she watched them. It had been a long road but they had gotten there.
Jamie sent his son to wash his hands and join them at the table for lunch, he watched as he ran to the bathroom on his little legs, laughing till he was out of sight. He looked at Phoebe, she had that look in her eyes, the one he loved to see. It was the 'we made it guys' look. He approached her and turned her around, hugging her from behind and cradling the bump under his hands.
"Are you happy, love?"
"More than I've ever been, more than I'll ever be." That was her response each time he asked, and she'll be damned if it wasn't the truth. She was truly happy with Jamie, and as the years went by, she became happier.
"We haven't quite gotten the fairytale ending I promised you."
"It's okay, we're getting there."
"I will not be able to afford a lot of expensive things for you and our kids."
After they had gotten married, Jamie had left the business, faked their death and her mother's too, and moved to South Africa. A long way from home. Her mother had gotten a job and moved out, she was seeing a fisherman, and she was happier than she'd ever seen her.
Jamie had gotten a job too, in an auto shop. And Jamie had always been a businessman, soon he broke off and started his shop, so far they were doing well but they were nowhere near how comfortable they were before. But they were happy. They still kept in touch with Kieran, who now ran the business, and Hailey, his wife.
"I have all I need right here, Jamie. I don't need anything else."
Phoebe rubbed her hand over him, enjoying the rough feel it now had to it, and then she rubbed his face before she tilted her head backward and kissed him. They broke apart when they heard the tiny pitter-patter of feet.
"And I certainly do not need anyone else."
"Me too."
"Well, you had better not. I am about to pop out child number two for you."
They both laughed, and Jamie let his wife walk ahead of him to the dining table. He had everything he needed. And yes, he didn't need anyone else.
*THE END*
