Chapter 10

“Today is the final day for each community to answer Green's request and by the looks of it," Martha paused as she glanced across my commanders.

“It doesn't seem likely. Hence we have no choice to proceed with our plans."

She continued while she rolled out an old map across the table we stood by.

“This is the Regent's Coven located in Krixgard. A place basically surrounded with dense forest where the Witches gem lies. We're launching an attack as the morning dawns tomorrow. So, I want you all to listen carefully to your respective roles..."

I stared at the old piece of paper uninterestingly. I wasn't even sure I was listening to her strategies. My mind trailed back to midnight. The conversation I shared with my Mate.

As I entered into the dungeon my entirety awakened with the familiar tingling sensation. But this time I wasn't restless, I was gradually suppressing my attraction towards him. I walked past the guards solemnly till I arrived his prison. There he was, bound in chains to the ground. His body covered in bruises that refused to heal up and a strong scent of Wolfsbane reeking all over him.

I stood above him, but his head still remained bowed as if he were unaware of my presence. Perhaps his pain had consumed him so much that he was oblivious of his environment.

“Look at you." I mumbled in a disgusted tone as I held his chin, raising his head towards me. His hazel eyes were faintly alive, and his breath barely escaped yet he didn't look broken in the slightest. He was only tired.

“It's only been a day and you already look so miserable."

The corner of his lips lifted into a tiny smile.

“Are you here to mock me or you're here because you're concerned."

I smirked.

“Why would I be concerned for a mere man like you?" My grip on his chin tightened but he didn't grunt.

“I'm your mate. I'm sure a part of you must be worried about my status right now."

My teeth gnashed against each other as anger ignited within me. I hated the fact he was correct, that he never for once succumbed to my rules. And there was the tingling sensation that seemed to have intensified from my firm grip to the rest of my entirety.

“Zeus." I called softly with a spiteful glare. "You have no idea how much I want to rip you in half. Shred you to pieces and feed your carcass to the birds."

“Then why are you still hesitating?"

“Isn't it obvious." I smirked whilst releasing him off my grip. "The mate bond between us wouldn't let me have my way." I turned away from him. I took a few steps before halting.

“You're special, you know that." My head tilted slightly. Even though I couldn't see him, I could feel his gaze boring into me.

“Never ever has it been in history that a Werewolf can perform magic." I turned towards him again.

“You're the first the World has ever seen but then I dug further." I mumbled as I started walking in circles slowly. "How is it possible? Even if a Werewolf and Witch are mated together, their offspring will only take one origin and not the other. But in your own case, you took both of them." I pursed my lips as his brows arched slightly.

“And then after a long research, I realized you're a Serpent Wolf. One of those wolves blessed by the moon goddess once in a century. Legend says they are destined for greatness but in your case," I stopped before him, holding his gaze.

“You've chosen a path of foolishness." I resumed my trail.

“Your parents must be so disappointed in you. Rather than chase after a good life, you chose to forget everything all for a monster like me."

His body stiffened.

“Your father would probably curse the day he gave birth to you, and your mother, she would be busy shedding those precious warm tears for y—”

“Stop it!" He yelled, cutting me off abruptly. I frowned as I stopped before him again seeing nothing but faint anger and sadness in his eyes. His palms were curled in a fist and his chest towered up and down. It made me wonder why he was this sensitive about them.

“I respect you Green. I will let you insult me and treat me like a slave, like trash," he spoke in the iciest tone I've ever heard. "But I won't tolerate you speaking ill about my family."

In a strange way, this eyes of his reminded me of my family. The first time I ever stood up to my father but in the end, I got beat up.

My eyes softened as I gulped down my saliva. I bent towards him while my hand held his cheek gently.

“Zeus." I called in a faint voice. "Reject me and go back to your life."

“I would never do that,” he avowed. "You're my present, you're my life Green."

“I'm a Vampire." My voice almost trailed off.

“I'm a Werewolf." He leaned against my touch more.

“I'm a monster."

“I've killed, I've stolen, I've taken people's joy away, I've caused a lot of pain to others. I'm a monster too."

“I don't deserve you nor love."

“I don't deserve you either, yet the moon goddess mated us together." He smiled. "There must have been a reason fate merged our paths together. So why should we reject each other? Why should we hate when clearly our hearts say otherwise?"

I heaved a heavy sigh.

“I'm pure darkness Zeus. I'm only going to bring you pain and nothing more. Many people want me dead, many wars that I have to fight, many obstacles that I want to overcome." I paused, admiring the care that bloomed in his eyes.

“Being part of my life would only give you regrets. Reject me."

“I want to be part of that life Green. I want to be your light, I want to fight your wars by your side, I want you to be happy." He pursed his lips. "I want you."

My lips parted slightly but I couldn't find the right words. Hence, I arose. Reverting to my cold expression.

“Release him." I ordered, he frowned while the guards hesitated for a split second.

“Give him utmost care till his injuries are healed up." I added, exchanging knowing glances with Celine, the head guard. I exited sharply with a sinister smile. My plan had worked, I was gradually taming him and soon, with the help of Celine he was going to fall for my trap.

“Green, Green!" Martha's pitch jolted me back to reality. Their eyes bore holes into me as if they thirsted to know what travailed in my head.

“Is anything wrong because it looks like we lost you there for a while."

I returned my gaze to the map, wondering why Zeus was yet to show up. Perhaps Celine had failed to play her role or perhaps he was suspecting my sudden change in attitude. But one thing I knew for sure, my plan never fails.

“Green, should we postpone this meeting for la—”

The twin doors opened, cutting her off abruptly. Their eyes darted to the person who stepped in while a devilish smile crept to my face as I stared at the map.

“Zeus?" Martha mumbled in disbelief. I almost laughed at the shock plastered across their faces. My plan worked; I had successfully tamed my mate.

“You shouldn't be here Zeus." I grimaced with a concerned face, but he frowned.

“How are you even here?" Martha queried sharply. Her eyes wavering between mine and Zeus.

“Celine told me everything Green,” he responded, his gaze squarely holding mine as he walked towards our table.

“There's a war happening tomorrow, and you didn't bother to tell me?"

“Everyone leave," I ordered and even though they hesitated for a split moment, they obeyed. Leaving Martha, Zeus, and I alone in the room.

“This war is dangerous, Zeus. It's my battle to fight and not yours." I answered softly.

“Your war is my war whether you like it or not,” he stated as he neared me with a worried look. Some of his bruises were still there but he chose to be worried about me.

“Zeus." I tried to plead.

“No Green." He wriggled his head. "I'm not going to stay idle while you go face some battles."

“I've been fighting battles long before you came Zeus."

“Doesn't matter. I'm here now and I want to help,” he argued.

“Okay what's going on here I'm confused." Martha chipped in but none of us bothered to answer.

“Fine. Since you want to help there's a particular problem we're having. Perhaps you might be of help." I pointed to an area on the map.

“What is this?" He asked.

“This is the Oasis Haven Coven."

“Vera's Coven,” he said. I nodded in agreement.

“She has an ancient artifact locked in this room. This artifact alongside the two others from The Lycan's and Dragon Lord's side is more than enough to kill me."

Martha frowned but I eyed her off.

“I have to get it before she activates the spell but there's a problem."

He frowned.

“According to our sources, this room can only be accessible through an underground tunnel. Now this tunnel is enchanted with a spell that prevents any Vampire from accessing it." I sighed.

“So, you're saying there's a possibility that a Werewolf can access this tunnel?" He proposed.

“Yes, but even if this Wolf can access it, he needs to have a spell that can break it's enchantment."

Silence reigned amidst us for some minutes.

“I'll do it." He smiled. I faked a worried face.

“But Zeus this war could be very bloody—”

“Green, don't forget I'm one of the best Assassins out there. We can do this." He affirmed while Martha continued to stare dumbfounded.

I smiled and even though I didn't want to, I embraced him. Apart from the rush of excitement travelling between us from our embrace, I was delighted.

Delighted that my devious plan worked. There was no coming back for Zeus. He had already fallen.
