Chapter 338: Having a Child in Advance
Chapter 338: Having a Child in Advance
Brielle glared at Saskia, her eyes cold and full of loathing.
She had settled abroad with her husband, Sterling Larson; Dwayne was their only son.
Dwayne had always been a well-behaved child who never caused them any trouble.
She and Sterling had always trusted Dwayne and never interfered in his personal affairs.
That changed two days ago when they contacted an old friend back home. During their conversation, the friend expressed concern and revealed that Dwayne was involved with a married woman—and that everyone knew about it.
Although she lived abroad, she came from a scholarly family, and her upbringing made it impossible for her to accept such a scandal.
She bought a plane ticket that very night and flew back immediately.
The moment she saw Saskia, she lost control and slapped her.
She loomed over Saskia with an intimidating presence, staring down at her.
Saskia accepted the slap without resistance.
She hadn't been eating or sleeping well and looked exhausted; the slap made her ears ring and her vision blur.
When told to leave Dwayne, she instinctively shook her head.
She couldn’t bring herself to do it.
Brielle's chest heaved with rage as she humiliated Saskia. "Have you no shame?! How can a married woman like you be so shameless as to seduce my son?"
Dwayne was utterly spellbound.
He refused to listen to her earnest advice and insisted on staying with this woman.
Who knew what spell this woman had cast over Dwayne?
After all these years, he chose a woman like this of all people.
"Mrs. Larson, Dwayne and I truly love each other."
Saskia lacked the strength to defend herself.
The mistakes she had made years ago were now dragging Dwayne down to pay the price with her.
She could only voice her feelings.
"Truly love each other?"
These words only made Brielle angrier, and she raised her hand to slap her again.
"Mom!"
This time, the slap didn't land—Dwayne rushed over and caught her hand.
He pulled Saskia protectively into his arms and gazed at her swollen cheek, his eyes filled with pain.
He stepped protectively in front of her and said to Brielle in a firm voice, "Mom, I'm saying this for the last time. In this lifetime, I will marry no one but Saskia."
With that, he walked away, carrying Saskia in his arms.
Brielle's face turned pale with rage. "Dwayne, I will never accept you marrying a woman like that!"
"Whether you accept it or not is your business. I’ve chosen her!"
Dwayne walked away without looking back, still holding Saskia.
......
At the restaurant, the two little ones sat close together, with Lily sat across from them.
Celestia loved chicken wings and devoured them quickly; three wings were gone in the blink of an eye.
Even after finishing, she still wanted more.
Thinking no one was watching, she cast furtive glances at the chicken wings in front of Uriah and swallowed hard.
"Celestia, you can have them."
Uriah was being very generous.
Seeing that she wanted more, he immediately pushed his remaining two chicken wings toward her plate.
Celestia's eyes lit up. "Thank you, Uriah!"
Uriah was always so kind to her.
"Let's have one each."
Celestia wasn't greedy. She took one and handed the other to Uriah. He happily ate with her, thrilled that he was finally old enough to take care of Celestia.
In his excitement, Uriah completely forgot Benjamin's instructions and blurted out impatiently,"Celestia, I can take care of you now. When will you and Ms. Martin come live with me?"
The smile on Lily's lips froze. Suppressing her emotions, she said gently, "Uriah, you shouldn't say things like that."
"But Ms. Martin, I’m not talking nonsense. Dad said that when I grow up and can take care of Celestia, I’ll bring her home and look after her. I can sleep by myself now, and I can take care of Celestia too."
Uriah puffed out his chest, trying his best to prove how much he had grown. Lily's emotions churned inside her.
She hadn't expected Benjamin to say something like that to Uriah.
When Uriah saw that Lily remained silent, he thought she didn't believe him. He worried she might think he was lying and that he was a bad child, and then she wouldn't like him anymore.
Just as he was getting anxious, a familiar figure appeared in his line of sight.
It was Benjamin, who had rushed over.
"Dad!"
Uriah saw his savior and immediately ran over, grabbing his hand and pulling him to the table. He said urgently, "Dad, tell Ms. Martin quickly that I'm not lying! You really told me that when I grow up and can take care of Celestia, you'll bring her home. I can now, Dad. Can we bring Celestia and Ms. Martin home? I really like her."
In Uriah's little world, Benjamin would never lie to him.
He looked at Benjamin with expectant eyes.
That look made Benjamin's heart tighten, and he held Uriah's hand.
He wanted it too, but he couldn't.
Celestia was always very focused when eating. She had just finished the chicken wings, and her little mouth was covered in grease.
As she wiped her hands with a napkin, she saw Benjamin.
Celestia's eyes lit up, clearly delighted.
"Mr. White!"
Seeing Celestia call Benjamin this way, Uriah immediately corrected her, "Celestia, not Mr. White, he's..."
"Daddy!"
The word "Daddy" made Benjamin's body tremble violently.
In an instant, it felt as though his throat was closing up.
His eyes immediately reddened with tears. He looked at Celestia with emotion, his lips trembling as he was about to respond.
Then he realized Celestia wasn't looking at him, but at someone behind him.
Benjamin quickly turned around and met Bruce's gaze.
The two men’s gazes collided in the air.
Bruce's gaze merely swept across Benjamin's face before settling on Celestia.
Striding past Benjamin, Celestia excitedly stood up and threw herself at Bruce.
He bent down to pick her up, receiving her greasy kisses.
She smeared oil all over Bruce’s face with her kisses, then laughed.
Bruce held Celestia with one arm. Instead of taking the wet wipe Lily offered, he slightly turned toward her.
Lily understood and leaned over to wipe Celestia's face.
After that, Bruce gestured with his eyes, indicating he needed wiping too.
There were oil stains on his cheek too.
Lily understood and carefully wiped his face clean.
The scene made Benjamin's eyes sting, turning them completely red.
Uriah was equally confused by what he saw.
He felt dazed and couldn't make sense of it.
Why was Celestia calling someone else “Daddy”?
"Mr. White, we're leaving now."
Bruce held Celestia, took Lily's hand, said his goodbyes, and left.
"Dad, what's wrong? Does it hurt? Let me blow on it for you..."
Uriah looked at Benjamin's red eyes, tugged at his hand, and tried to blow on them.
"I'm fine."
Benjamin's voice was thick with emotion as he bent down and picked up Uriah.
As they left the fast-food restaurant, he happened to see Bruce driving away in Lily's car.
Celestia had just settled into her seat when she pouted at Bruce.
"Daddy, I told you to wait before driving. Why didn't you? I didn't get to say goodbye to Uriah and Mr. White!"
"Sorry baby, I didn't hear you," Bruce apologized softly to Celestia.
Celestia waved her little hand. "It's okay, I forgive you."
"Thank you, baby."
"You're welcome."
Celestia's voice was soft and sweet, unaware of the tension between the adults.
She was completely absorbed in the simple joy of having eaten an extra chicken wing that day.
Lily, sitting in the passenger seat, had just finished editing a message. She clicked send right in front of Bruce.
Benjamin, who had just gotten into his car, felt his phone vibrate.
The special ringtone made him immediately reach for it and unlock it.
[Benjamin, don't give your son false hope about things that will never happen, making him have expectations he shouldn't have.]
The words "will never happen" made it clear that there would never be another chance for them.
It felt as if his heart had been ripped open, the pain so intense it left him breathless.
......
At Dwayne's place, he treated the wound on her face with careful, gentle movements, his eyes full of heartache.
Saskia watched as tears slipped out without warning.
Was there really such a thing as karma?
Back then, to marry Benjamin, she used Parker to pressure him, preventing him from marrying the woman he truly loved.
Now, Dwayne's parents didn't accept her either, and she was unable to be with the man she loved.
In the end, Saskia was the one who spoke first, her voice full of reluctance as she choked out, "Dwayne, let's break..."
Before she could finish, Dwayne pulled her into a tight embrace.
Holding Saskia firmly, he said in a weary voice, "Saskia, as long as you get divorced, I'll convince my parents."
When Saskia heard the word "divorce," she fell silent, the atmosphere between them grow even heavier.
It was a dead end—there was no way out.
Tears poured out, soaking into Dwayne's shirt.
At that moment, Dwayne’s phone rang—it was an unknown number.
The caller was a waiter from the coffee shop.
Seeing that Dwayne remained unrepentant, Brielle attempted suicide.
She resorted to the most extreme method to force Dwayne’s hand.
......
The two rushed to the hospital. Saskia didn't dare go up and instead sat in the car, her whole body cold, her heart sinking.
She didn't know how long she waited before finally seeing Dwayne appear in her line of sight.
Saskia immediately pushed open the car door and went to meet him. Seeing Dwayne’s bloodshot eyes and an exhausted face, her heart twisted into a knot.
She had seen a similar scene before with Benjamin.
Back then, she had watched coldly as the one who won.
Now...
"Saskia, go back first. Don't overthink it—I'll handle everything."
After hugging Saskia, Dwayne turned and headed toward the hospital.
As she watched his retreating figure, tears blurred her vision.
She couldn't bear to see Dwayne in such a difficult position any longer.
He said that as long as she got divorced, he would convince his parents.
If she do it, would they still have a chance together?
She didn't want to lose Dwayne.
Saskia got into the car and drove back at full speed.
......
Celestia had grown used to sleeping alone.
Her room was filled with all her favorite dolls.
Ever since she had told Mia a bedtime story once, she had become fond of it.
Now she put herself to sleep—it worked quite well.
After Celestia fell asleep again, Lily tucked in her blanket, leaned down to kiss her, then got up and left the room to return to the master bedroom.
As soon as she turned the doorknob, a hand reached out from inside, pulled her in, and pressed her against the door as he kissed her.
Bruce gripped her waist tightly, as if he wanted to pull her into himself.
"Bruce, wait..."
Lily had returned to the room intending to talk to Bruce.
She knew he had already heard, but Bruce didn't give her a chance to speak. "I want you!"
He forcefully picked her up and carried her into the bathroom.
A long time later, they came out, and he pressed her onto the bed.
With his face buried near her ear, he murmured over and over, "I love you—I really love you."
When everything finally calmed down, Lily didn't complain about how rough he had been.
"Wife, I'm sorry—I was too rough just now. Did I hurt you?"
"No!" Lily's voice was still a bit hoarse. She propped herself up, planning to take a bath.
"Let me carry you."
"No need!" Lily pushed away his hand.
Even though they had been married for some time, Lily still felt a little uncomfortable with this kind of intimacy afterward.
She preferred to clean up on her own, so Bruce didn't press the matter.
He watched as she went into the bathroom, took a shower, and came out in her pajamas.
She walked straight to the bedside table and took birth control pills from the drawer. She hadn't taken them for a while.
Since Bruce hadn't used protection earlier, Lily took out two pills and swallowed them without hesitation.
He had just come back from showering in another room and happened to see it.
Since they had agreed to wait half a year before having children, Lily didn't avoid him when taking the pills.
After swallowing them, she saw him walk toward her and reach out, and she naturally nestled into his arms.
She took the initiative to speak. "Honey, about today, it's because..."
"I trust you," he interrupted her as soon as she started speaking.
"Wife, I really do trust you!"
He trusted that she wasn't meeting Benjamin behind his back, but he still felt deeply uneasy inside.
He knew she loved Benjamin, and even though he believed Lily wouldn't betray him, anything related to Benjamin still made him panic.
Even with her in his arms, he constantly feared she might leave him at any moment.
It made him unable to stop himself earlier—he just wanted to hold her, to calm his restless heart.
Bruce suddenly held Lily tighter, looking at her, and tentatively suggested, "Wife, can we move up our plans to have a baby?"
He felt deeply uneasy. He desperately wanted to secure their future together with a child.
