Chapter 193: Midnight Phone Romance
His voice was already magnetic, and in the darkness of night, coming through the phone line, it seemed to carry an invisible current—incredibly sexy.
Mia was caught off guard, her whole body felt like it had been hit by a mild electric shock, tingling all over.
At this point, if she didn't know what James was up to, all that time with him would have been for nothing.
For a moment, Mia really didn't know how to react.
Who would have thought that after getting divorced, James could become so shameless.
Mia's head was killing her.
She must be crazy to believe he actually had something important to discuss!
His so-called "important matter" was getting frisky with her over the phone?
Just as she was about to hang up.
James on the other end seemed to know she was about to hang up and stopped her in time, "Mia, don't hang up—"
For some reason, Mia actually paused.
Then she heard James's voice, extremely low on the other end, sounding almost aggrieved, complaining to her in a melancholy tone.
"Mia, I'm lying in the bed you slept in the other day, hugging the pillow you used, imagining you lying in my arms, resting on my arm."
"I could just reach out and touch you, just lower my head and kiss you."
"Since our divorce, I think about you every night, but tonight especially—"
"I want to hold you."
"Kiss you."
"Like before, kiss every part of your body—"
Mia's face flushed like a peach blossom, her heartbeat lost its normal rhythm, and she scolded him in embarrassed annoyance, "James, shut your mouth!"
Her heart was itching unbearably!
Because of his overly deep and husky voice, saying these suggestive things.
Alone at night, it was hard not to think about their intimate moments from before.
Even though he wasn't in front of her, his lips seemed to really start from her forehead, moving downward with kisses.
Even her breathing became irregular.
"Mia, are you thinking about it too? Should I drive over to see you now?"
As James spoke, he seemed to really be throwing off the covers to get up.
She couldn't tell if he was testing her or actually planning to drive over.
Mia would never admit that James's few flirtatious words actually made her miss him.
"If you're not afraid of having the door slammed in your face, then come!"
With that, she hung up directly.
After hanging up, Mia had lost all interest in reading.
She stood up, went to the fridge for a bottle of water, tilted her head back and drank several gulps, finally suppressing the restless fire in her chest a bit.
Putting the water back in the fridge, Mia turned and went back to her bedroom, lay down on her small bed, covered herself with the blanket, turned off the light, and went to sleep.
The night grew quiet.
She tossed and turned.
It had been quite a while since she'd thought about those intimate moments with James.
It wasn't that she never thought about them, but all those times combined weren't as difficult as this one night.
When she closed her eyes, her mind was full of James's flirtatious words.
The more she thought about it, the less she could sleep.
Lying in her small bed, tossing and turning, she kept at it until late into the night before finally falling asleep from exhaustion.
What you think about during the day, you dream about at night.
In the middle of the night, Mia woke from her dream.
She sat up in bed, threw off the covers, and let out a long breath.
Her whole body was burning hot, her breathing unsteady.
After four years together with James and being apart this long, this was the first time she'd dreamed about him.
The dream was full of scenes of them making love.
Her body was unbearably hot, her clothes stuck to her body, very uncomfortable.
Mia frantically cursed James in her heart until she felt better, then got out of bed to take a shower.
She changed into clean clothes and lay back down in bed.
It took a long time before she fell asleep again.
The next morning, after a bad night's sleep, Mia's body clock was already set—she woke up after six.
Even though it was Saturday, Mia didn't let herself sleep in.
She forced herself to crawl out of bed, washed up, changed into workout clothes, and prepared to go downstairs for a run to clear her head.
Yawning, she opened the door to see James standing outside, looking even worse than her, sporting two big dark circles under his eyes.
She didn't know how long he'd been there, looking at her pitifully, saying in an aggrieved tone, "Mia, after you hung up on me last night, I missed you so much I couldn't sleep all night—"
When Mia heard James say he didn't sleep well, she reacted like someone had stepped on her tail, her expression becoming even worse.
From that one glance at James, she could imagine how she looked when she saw herself in the mirror while washing up.
They were basically the same.
Dark circles so heavy it looked like they'd each been punched twice—all thanks to him!
And he dared to act aggrieved in front of her.
Didn't sleep well, in a terrible mood.
Seeing the culprit made her even angrier.
Not wanting to talk to him, she walked past him, closed the door, and headed straight for the elevator.
James immediately followed.
Outside the building entrance, Mia treated James as if he didn't exist, doing simple warm-up exercises.
James followed along, doing the exercises while asking knowingly, "Mia, did you not sleep well last night either?"
Mia continued stretching, ignoring him.
After a simple warm-up, she started running.
The morning air was fresh, and the frustration stuck in Mia's chest gradually eased.
After her miscarriage, her health had suffered and her constitution was poor. To have a healthy body so she could work properly, she started running.
She ran, and James ran with her.
With his long legs, her light jog was basically a brisk walk for him.
He easily kept pace with Mia, accompanying her run.
James didn't care at all that she was ignoring him.
Showing up at her door early in the morning and seeing the matching dark circles, he didn't show it on his face, but inside he was overjoyed.
Obviously, Mia had been thinking about him last night too.
Anyway, like Louis said, to win Mia back, he had to be shameless enough.
To get Mia back.
He could do anything!
"Were you thinking about me?"
