Fugitive

Lucy Adams hates her life, but she hates her stepfather even more. One day, he pushes her and she snaps. She smashes her stepfather’s head with a baseball bat, an action that lands her in jail. Trouble seems to follow her as she’s only saved from getting beat up in jail by a quiet, handsome fellow. And in the middle of thanking him, she gets his name and number. Lucy realizes her time is up at home when her stepfather threatens to kill her. She sees Defoe, the quiet but dangerous jail mate, as an escape route and joins him in his motel. She couldn’t have been more wrong. Lucy is cast into Defoe’s on-the-run life. She inherits his enemies and discovers what it means to lose one’s home, identity, and peace. Unable to return, Lucy is stuck with Defoe as he reveals the truth of his mobster past, and introduces her to the life of a former mob boss on the run. Live with the devil for long enough and his wiles will ensnare you. Defoe is not the devil, but Lucy falls for him all the same. He cannot afford to love her back, but it’s not up to him. Will their emotions complicate an already challenging situation? Or will the need to escape danger and live again supersede all?
