Chapter 21
Chapter 21
After entering her room, Rory pulled open the cabinet. The item she had seen on the table the day she had been assigned to that room was put into the cupboard. She reached for a circular case and opened it to discover a gluey silicone in the form of a broken heart inside. Rory could see plenty of them, but she didn't know what they were for, not until she read the cover. She then understood that the item was an eye patch and that it was intended to treat the dark circles under her eyes.
She thought of Caroline and her smile spread across her lips. Her friend would really enjoy it. After locking the lid, Rory set the case on the table and reached for another. This time, when she opened the new case, she saw that it contained a green color. Before setting it down on the table, she said, "A face mold," with a slight nod of her head.
The next item she chose was a paste for moisturizing the face after completing the entire skin care regimen. Rory placed it on the table before rising from where she had knelt down. She didn’t have the time to elaborate further or to apply them to her face. She doesn't want Eren to suddenly summon her back into the room while she is at it.
As Rory got up and walked to her bed, she reached out and picked up the unfinished book from the table and was about to start reading it when she heard a car sound outside her window. She put the book back on the table, stood up from her bed, and walked over to her window. She opened the window slightly and peered out while placing her hands on the blinds.
A man got out of the car, and since Rory doesn't know him and has never seen him at the mansion before, she assumed that he was the doctor who was supposed to assess Eren's mental state in the next few hours. Or was it already time? As she turned her head to look at the time on the clock, she wondered. The doctor arrived at the mansion in less than fifty minutes after Eren had told her to take a break.
Was the doctor early or did Eren forget the schedule and told her to return two hours rather than an hour later?
Rory couldn't find an answer to her question. After taking her hands off the window, she ran from her room toward Eren's, and, as she got close to his door, she calmed down and counted to five before knocking.
Eren instructed, "Come back later."
“Young master, it is Rory Anne Spears.”
He adores that name, damn it.
“I told you to take a break, so do that now and don't bother me.” Eren had been unable to fall asleep for the previous fifty minutes since he gave her the break.
He felt that his mind had wandered too much, so he closed his eyes, stayed in bed, and made an effort to not think about anything at all.
It wasn’t possible.
However, he had already thought of Rory Anne Spears. She had entered his thoughts just as he was attempting to not think of anything. He had been thinking about her and was unable to shake the memory of touching her face.
Her silky, smooth face, which he had also hoped to see.
Rory spoke again. “Young master, I think the doctor has arrived.”
As he raised his head, Eren sprang out of his pillow. This was never intended to happen. Not at this moment. If his prediction was accurate, his doctor was scheduled to visit in a few hours.
"A man was outside the mansion, I saw him. He was carrying a briefcase, and he looked like a doctor, but without the coat and scrubs.” She added.
“Come inside.” After hearing what Eren said, she slightly opened the door, went inside, and shut it again. Rory came up to Eren and took a position in front of him.
"Young Master, what do we do?" She asked.
“What do you mean?” he asked.
“The plan, young master.”
“What plan?”
He appeared to have lost track of the strategy for the scan outcome. Rory's brows furrowed. When she left, what exactly had he been thinking about? Rory wondered.
“We have to give Mr. Lewis a different result, remember?”
Eren was reminded at once. “Oh. That result.” He had actually forgotten about it. What had he been thinking about? Right, he remembers now. He had Rory Anne Spears on his mind.
“You forgot.” He nodded after Rory's comment.
“What should I do, in your opinion, to keep myself from not getting a test done at the hospital?" He asked.
Was she meant to respond to him? Or aid him in formulating a strategy?
“Rory,” he called. “Think of something.”
Right, she was meant to help him think of a plan. He wanted that, obviously. Rory then reasoned that if Eren underwent a brain scan, the results would be accurate, the doctor would inform Mr. Lewis of it, and Mr. Lewis would order an examination at the hospital and prescribe medication to help Eren forget about his nightmares and his parents, whose faces he couldn’t recall.
She suddenly said, as a plan exploded in her mind, "We will need a distraction."
“What kind of distraction?” asked Eren.
"What if I performed the test first before you did?"
Eren made a slow nod. Despite the fact that he wasn't yet understanding the plan, he was liking it. He grinned. “Go on.”
"That's where you step in. As I work on getting the test done, you will divert the doctor's attention and keep him occupied. When you finish your test, we will swap the results.”
“Oh.” He carried on nodding his head. “Why didn't I think of that?”
because I am smart, and you don't yet know that. Rory said to himself.
“So, I get my part, but do you know how to operate the machine? The… scanning… machine?” She completely grasped what he had said, as he had made sure to check.
She didn't think about that when the plan came into her mind.
“No. I can’t.” Rory admitted.
“Then, we must come up with another strategy.” Rory took Eren's hand when he reached out for it and assisted him in standing up. Getting a little bit closer to him, she cocked her head up and caught a glimpse of his jaw line. He was unaware that her heart was beating rapidly when he reached for his cane.
“But there is no time,” said Rory, as she moved away from him.
"What are you thinking about then?" Eren asked.
Inhaling deeply, Rory let out a breath. “Young master, hand me your phone.” She spoke.
They weren't allowed to bring gadgets into the mansion as a maid.
“I don't own a phone,” Rory's eyes widened as Eren answered.
“You are serious?”
“What do you want to do with the phone?” he asked, after giving a nod. “What does it have to do with the scan?”
“I would have watched it on YouTube if you had a phone.”
Eren was perplexed. “What exactly is a YouTube?”
Rory groaned in frustration. "You have no idea what YouTube is?"
“I don't have a phone.”
Rory understands now. Because he couldn't see or talk to anyone outside the house, he wasn't given a phone. She was also shocked to learn that he had no idea what YouTube was. "Rory, what is a YouTube?"
"It is a video-watching site. If there had been a phone, I could have learned how to operate the machine and been prepared to handle the scanner.”
“That's a fantastic plan, but there's no phone, so go with the other one instead." Eren walked up to the door with his cane. "While I divert him, think of something and make sure you succeed." He said, opening the door and leaving his room.
Rory wailed aloud. How on earth could everything she had imagined be challenging? It was simpler to say than to do. Her hand was placed under her chin as she sat down on Eren's bed. Her mind kept thinking and thinking and thinking... Then, as though a new plan had just come to her, she abruptly stood up.
She suddenly understood what to do. She would implement her sole strategy to learn how the device operated. She would have to provide the young master with a positive outcome so he wouldn't need to visit the hospital.
Rory immediately walked out of the room and went to the room Eren had mentioned. Getting there wasn't simple. To avoid being seen by the maids, she had to sneak and hide. When she managed to get to the door, she put her hand on the handle and gently pulled it open to muffle the sound of the door. She then entered the room and locked the door behind her.
Rory swallowed hard and her eyes widened as she walked up to the beeping machine. She took another gulp of saliva as she noticed various kinds of intricate wires entwined with one another. “How do I operate this messy thing?”
