Chapter 10
Chapter 10
“Did you see what I just did back there?” Din was giggling non stop as he carefully sat on the bed. While placing his cane by the side of his bed, he rested his hands on his legs. "I wish I had been able to see the expression on his face. He must be furious with me for not giving him what he wanted.”
Rory glanced at him before averting his gaze in an instant. Eren's happiness at provoking his uncle's wrath was evident to her.
“I can't hear you laughing. Are you trying to imply that what I did was amusing?” He asked.
"No, young master, You're hilarious. In fact, I could tell your uncle was furious. Haha." Eren was aware that Rory had faked her laughter.
“You can go. I should get some sleep.” He said while putting his feet up on the bed and pulling his pillow close to him. He leaned his head against it and shut his eyes. After a minute, Rory's presence was still felt by Eren. “I request that you leave me alone. I want to be by myself.” His chuckle this time changed to a frown.
“Young master, I can't go out of your sight.” When Rory turned her gaze away from Eren, she noticed a red scarf hanging from a long, decorative stick next to the other window.
Eren sat up straight. “I told you that I needed to nap and that you should leave, so leave!”
Eren became even angrier as Rory remained silent.
“I hired you, so you have to follow my orders.”
Rory made a bow. She wanted to show her respect for him even though she knew he couldn't see it. “I believe you should go for a walk to relax your mind or mock your enemies. The manuscript instructed me to take you for a stroll in the garden after breakfast, and I have also noticed that you never leave the house.” He found her right away after she said those words. As a newcomer, what does she know about him? What does she know about his enemies? "I won't leave until you've taken a stroll in the garden or listened to me read you a book," she said.
"You know, I'm not a little kid." She rolled her eyes. If he wasn’t a little kid, he should not be acting like one. “You can be fired at any time, so follow my instructions before I become even angrier,” he added.
Rory didn't want to get fired or irritate him more, and it seemed like with what she had said to him, he didn’t want her in his present either. “I'll leave right away, young master.” After turning to leave, she shut the door behind her.
She leaned her back against the closed door and let out a loud sigh. She put both of her hands on her chest to feel the beat and could hear her heart thumping loudly.
She had confronted him because she believed she could persuade him to change his mind despite the frightening manner in which he had spoken. How could someone be so calm and yet so stubborn? Why didn't he fear that there were people out there who wanted to kill him?
To find Caroline, she made her way to the garden. She has a lot to say to her friend, who she hasn't seen since this morning. After some time of searching the garden for Caroline, Rory Anne felt a touch on her shoulder. As she spun around, she noticed her friend laughing. "Caro, you're not a child." She rolled her eyes.
“Sorry for stressing you. It's been a while since I've had this much fun.” Caro set her large pair of scissors on the ground before inviting Rory to sit on the concrete.
Silent. “You don't even have to look at me that way,” she said. Rory groaned. “I hate his cousin who visited, but I hate him even more. He is very obstinate,” she remarked.
Caro helped Rory to tuck the stray hair that fell from her cap behind her ear. “I saw them walk out of the house. He had a very threatening and hostile appearance. If they come back here, you'd better make every effort to stay away from them.”
“I wish I could do that. I regret that he made me accompany him to breakfast in the dining room. How, specifically, could he stuff himself in his room immediately following breakfast? He isn’t even scared of his enemies. It appears as though he has given up hope of ever seeing or living.” Rory's voice carried emotion, which Caro could hear.
She questioned, "Are you worried about him?"
Right away, Rory shook her head. “Why would I be?” She turned her head away from Caro. “As his personal maid, I'm more concerned than I would be as a normal person. I have a responsibility to protect him.” She spoke as she observed two butterflies chasing each other while holding her chin in her hand.
“Not at all, Miss Rory Anne Spear. It's your responsibility to serve him, so if he doesn't want you to keep him safe, don't. Concentrate on the cash they will give you, then leave town with your family.” She got Rory to look at her. "You've helped people enough already. Up until two months ago, the Rory I know was accustomed to having her mother dictate her every move and tell her what to do, who to meet, and who to marry. I realized for the first time that you didn't give a damn about anyone or anything. Your consideration of yourself alone constitutes self-love.” If only Caroline knew that she was a heartless person who didn't even show up to the funeral of her grandmother until after a week had passed, she wouldn't be lecturing her about courage or selflove.
She was aware of what courage was. Since her father was a police officer, she had to learn a lot of things as a young child. She would accompany him to work while carrying a toy gun and engaging in extensive fantasy. creating her own fairytale in his office and acting everything there. Until things went bad for them, her father and her mother had supported her.
“Let him be. You are not his mother; you are his maid.” Caroline turned her head away from Rory.
Rory sighed. “You know what? I agree with you. I'm his maid, not his mother. I'm not going to abide by the instructions in the manuscript regarding what to do and what not to do for him. I'll just rely on my gut feeling.”
"No Rory, Not at all what I meant. That's not a good plan. You must adhere to the instructions, but you must not behave like his mother. You are his maid, not his mother, as his mother has passed away. Think back to how your mom would constantly nag you to get married; can you now see how annoyed you were?” As Caroline made clear, Rory nodded. "Exactly, that's how he feels too when a girl from Section C starts acting like his mother all of a sudden even though it's obvious that she isn't. I am not even sure if his mother treated him like that.”
“He is the heir,” said Rory.
"Yes, the heir is not treated in that manner, and based on the appearance of things, he is spoiled. Because they are stars in their parents' eyes, spoiled heirs are not subjected to parental nagging.”
“What do you think I should do, then?” asked Rory.
“Be the maid he wants you to be, which means follow every instruction without question, and do not, I repeat, do not attempt to disagree with him. If you lose your job, you can forget about leaving Section C because he has the upper hand and will win. Try not to act like his mother.”
After a while, Eren was unable to sleep. Rory had made his happy mood change in a matter of seconds. He stood up from his bed while holding his cane, which led him to the other window. He took the scarf off the long stick it was hanging from and inhaled it. That was all he had left of his mother. He had no other memories of her besides that.
The scarf had been around his neck both at the time of the accident and when he was discovered in the woods, and he had kept it ever since. Eren held himself responsible for his parents' passing. Even though he had little memory of his past, he was disappointed that his parents had passed away while he was still alive. Anytime he tried to do to end his life—wishing for death rather than continuing to live as a blind man—failed. He simply couldn't take his own life, and no matter what, his butler was always there to save him when his enemies tried to do so.
He doesn't understand why his Butler always comes to his aid, but he had hoped that for once, his Butler would appear a little later after he had left the world.
