Chapter 14 I'll Take This for You!
Pfft!
Even though Charlotte was in a bad mood, Michael's stinginess still made her chuckle.
That little amount is not even enough to wet the throat.
Tyler had a very dark expression, but he still took the glass from Michael.
She nodded and said, "That's enough." She then picked up the wine glass and poured it into her mouth, like a few drops of dew, without tasting anything.
"You are so stingy!" Tyler exclaimed in anger and slammed the glass. "Come on, let everyone have a taste."
Michael generously poured a glass for everyone present, except for Tyler and Aaron.
"Davis, you are so generous!" A girl exclaimed in admiration, "Splitting a bottle worth 280,000 yuan among us like this, you are definitely the most generous man I have ever met!"
"Did you hear that?" Michael looked at Tyler. "You're ruthless!" Tyler almost vomited blood from anger. He opened two bottles of XO and started drinking with Aaron. After drinking half a bottle each and finding it difficult to continue, Tyler suggested going to the dance floor to dance, just to avoid being overshadowed by Michael and feeling embarrassed.
"Sure, why not!" The young women at the table, who all liked to drink a little and dance, stood up.
Those with boyfriends held onto their boyfriends, and those without boyfriends held onto whoever was available, and they all walked towards the dance floor.
Soon, only Michael and Charlotte were left at the table.
"Hmph!" Charlotte suddenly punched Michael's shoulder angrily and complained, "The price of buying two bottles of wine for 4,000 yuan just to save my face is too high!" Michael smiled slightly and said,
"As long as you're happy, I'm willing to pay any price."
"I'm not happy, I'm heartbroken!" Charlotte vented, "I only earn such a small salary per month, barely enough for my mom to lose in one month of playing Mahjong. And the yearly bonuses my mom loses a bit too, Emily spends some, dad spends some on medicine, miscellaneous expenses here and there, barely enough to sustain our lives.
If it was before, I wouldn't care, but now that I've lost my job and the bonuses are gone, there's a big family to support. If I go in, you will be the backbone of the family. Wouldn't it be better to use the money you saved for our livelihood and to improve your relationship with mom, instead of squandering it like this? What are you trying to achieve?"
"I... caused harm to you. Haven't you considered divorcing me?" Michael was incredulous. "For you, you are willing to let me suffer reputation damage, and for my dad, I am willing to withstand any pressure and not divorce you."
"Because I know that if I marry someone else, there will be no one to take care of dad. Though we could hire a nanny, it wouldn't be as good as you. If we happen to hire an untrustworthy nanny, dad might not last long."
"So, no matter how you hurt me, I won't divorce you, because only with you taking care of dad can I feel at ease, and there is hope for dad's recovery." As she said this, she wiped away a tear filled with bitterness and sorrow, then forcefully drank a glass of wine. She hated Michael for tricking her, but for the sake of her dad receiving good care, no matter how much she hated him, she couldn't bring herself to divorce Michael.
Michael understood her feelings and poured her another cup. "If you don't go in, our family will still improve. Let's drink together and welcome a better tomorrow, shall we?"
"You're very optimistic," Charlotte said with a smile through her tears.
Although she didn't have much hope for Michael's future, she still hoped for it. She lifted her glass and clinked it with Michael's, letting go of all the anger she had towards him today and drinking it all down.
Michael's hand trembled slightly.
He was happy and excited because it meant that Charlotte also hoped for a better future with him.
It was almost eleven o'clock at night.
This was the peak hour for the bar, with many intoxicated men and women flocking to the dance floor, dancing to the energetic and explosive music.
Tyler and Scarlett, Aaron, and a woman... They were engaging in ambiguous and intense interactions, either holding each other's hands or embracing each other's waists, dancing like crazy.
Charlotte's eyes were blurred from alcohol as she leaned against the sofa, her hands crossed in front of her chest, watching Scarlett and Tyler.
Michael silently stood by her side.
"Do you know, Michael?" Charlotte suddenly spoke up, "Before you came to my house, my dad was the CEO, and the company was doing well. Back then, I was carefree like them."
"Everything changed since you came."
"I know. My arrival has caused you distress and made you suffer," Michael guiltily bowed his head.
"I don't blame you," Charlotte shook her head, "You've actually done a great job. It's just that reality is cruel. If my family were an ordinary one and you married into it, you wouldn't be considered useless but rather a good man praised by everyone. I wouldn't be distressed, let alone feel wronged."
"Unfortunately, my family is not an ordinary one. All my relatives reject you and look down on you. It's difficult for me not to be distressed or feel wronged."
"Of course, you have suffered no less distress than me. At least I'm not beaten or scolded, but you, you're often abused."
"Actually, if you're tired, you can withdraw from this failed marriage. I won't blame you. I don't want to ruin your happiness for the rest of your life by selfishly keeping you by my side to take care of my dad."
She wouldn't say these words before drinking too much, but now that she was tipsy, she spoke her mind.
"I'm not tired."
Michael shook his head. "I'm used to having a worthless life. As long as you don't give up, I will stay by your side, no matter the cost."
"Am I worth your sacrifice?" Charlotte looked at Michael.
Michael nodded.
"For what reason?" Charlotte asked.
"Because..." Michael hesitated.
His eyes turned red, he turned his head, and his tone suddenly became choked up, "You're the only person who has ever bought clothes for me from childhood to adulthood."
As his words fell, his eyes became moist.
Since he was sensible, no one had ever bought him clothes. He always wore the clothes that the older siblings no longer wore.
Until he married into the Carter family, Charlotte noticed that he had few clothes to change into. So, she went to the mall and bought him two outfits.
When he received the clothes Charlotte bought for him, he knew for certain that she was everything to him in this lifetime!
Charlotte remained silent.
She simply watched him, quietly.
She never expected that because she felt embarrassed about his shabby clothes, she casually bought him two outfits, which would move him to the point of being willing to devote a lifetime of happiness.
"I toast to you."
She poured a glass for Michael.
"Alright."
Michael took a deep breath, smiled at her, and clinked his glass with hers.
"Ah!" A sudden scream rang out.
The gazes of Charlotte and Michael were immediately drawn to it.
They saw the girl dancing with Aaron being held from behind by a drunk guy with blonde hair. The guy tightly pressed against her and swayed from side to side. She couldn't shake him off, which frightened her and made her scream continuously.
"You fucking looking to die!"
Aaron, seeing his dance partner being shamelessly held, immediately got angry. He walked up, grabbed the guy with blonde hair by his hair, and punched him in the nose.
"Ah!!!"The guy with blonde hair let out a miserable scream as his nose started bleeding profusely.
"Get the fuck out of here! “Tyler went up and kicked the guy with blonde hair, making him fall to the ground.
The dancing crowd immediately stopped, and all eyes gathered on Aaron and Tyler.
"Zachary! “At this moment, a young man with short hair called out and helped the guy with blonde hair from the ground. He scanned the surroundings and said, "Who did it!"
"It was me!"
Both Aaron and Tyler stepped forward.
"Whoever was sitting there, have the guts to speak up!" The young man with short hair coldly shouted.
"What, you want revenge against me?" Tyler smirked coldly and acted pretentiously, "VIP, three card seats, by the way, let me tell you, I'm Tyler, my family owns a hotel. If you have the guts, bring people to seek revenge on me!"
The young man with short hair was somewhat afraid after being addressed like that and helped the guy with blonde hair squeeze out of the crowd.
"You're scared now? What a joke!" Tyler proudly acted even more pretentiously.
"Tyler, will this cause trouble?" Scarlett asked worriedly.
"Scarlett, don't worry, I know the owner of this bar, nothing will happen." Tyler patted his chest, full of confidence.
"That's good."
Scarlett and the others finally relaxed and returned to their seats.
"Tyler”
"Hey, look! Those two punk kids just went upstairs. Do you think they're really going to get someone?" A young man pointed towards the staircase leading to the second floor.
Everyone followed his gaze and indeed saw the two punks heading upstairs.
"Scarlett, shall we go back? It might be troublesome if they actually bring someone." Charlotte was worried, especially since she was already tipsy and wanted to rest.
"Don't worry, Charlotte." Tyler immediately waved his hand. "I've been a regular customer here for years, and I've spent at least a couple million. I'm well acquainted with the boss here. One time on my birthday, the bar owner even came to toast me."
"So, you don't have to be afraid at all. With me around, nothing can go wrong!"
After saying that, he couldn't help but show off to Michael, "I have some money in my account. Drinking a couple of expensive bottles is nothing impressive. It's the wide network and the face that are truly impressive. If Charlotte gets hugged and you end up hitting someone, then there's no way you can leave this bar."
Upon hearing this, several women present immediately praised Tyler.
"Tyler is the real deal."
"Going out with Tyler gives us a sense of security."
"Tyler, you were so cool when you kicked that punk earlier."
Tyler's sense of glory soared as he listened, and he burst into laughter, beckoning, "Come, let's continue to enjoy the drinks and chat. Tonight, we won't go home until we're drunk!"
"We toast to Tyler."
The group raised their glasses to Tyler.
...
At this time, in a private room upstairs, dozens of young men and women were dancing wildly under the booming music and flashing lights.
Then the door opened, and two punks walked in.
"David, Zachary got beaten up."
As soon as these words were spoken, the music abruptly stopped, and the lights ceased to flicker.
Everyone's gaze converged on the punk named Zachary, whose face and clothes were covered in blood.
"Who did it?" David Butler's face turned cold as he stepped forward and asked.
"A guy named Tyler. He claimed to own a hotel and acted all high and mighty. We wanted to get revenge on him, so we took people to the 'Three-Three Seating'. Zachary and I are outsiders, so we didn't know if this Tyler was really that impressive. David, do you know him?" The punk supporting Zachary asked.
"How impressive can he be?" David Butler laughed wryly. "He owns a few three-star hotels, but that's as far as his impressiveness goes. When they see me, they have to respectfully address me as David."
"Damn it!" Zachary couldn't help but curse, "This damn guy dares to hit me without knowing how impressive my family is in Lumina City."
Then, he looked at David Butler, "David, you say you've offended the crown prince of the Nine Tripods Group and can't even go back home. Since we used to hit on girls together when we were studying abroad, I came here to accompany you."
A few days later, now I'm getting beaten up on your uncle's turf. You deal with it yourself!"
"Don't worry, Zachary. I, David Butler, will handle this for you!"
He patted his chest and then made a big gesture. "Follow me!"
Soon, a group of people emerged from the private room in a mighty manner.
