Chapter 60
Meanwhile, in the CEO's office at Jeffrey Technologies.
Jeffrey was busy contacting lawyers, trying to find a way to get Ophelia to drop the lawsuit.
Freya sat nearby, looking worried on the surface, but scheming something else in her mind.
She didn't want Jeffrey to go begging Ophelia at all. She wanted to make Ophelia's life miserable.
But on the surface, she still put on a vulnerable act: "Jeffrey, don't go."
"Why not?" Jeffrey stopped what he was doing and looked at her in confusion.
"I don't want you to beg that woman for my sake." Freya's eyes reddened. "She hates us so much, she'll definitely take the chance to humiliate you."
"I don't care, as long as you're okay." Jeffrey frowned. "Kaida can't be without a mother."
"But I feel bad for you." Freya grabbed his hand, her tone carrying a hint of subtle manipulation. "You're the CEO of Jeffrey Technologies, a man of status. How can you go begging a woman you abandoned?"
Jeffrey's heart stirred. Freya's words hit home.
He really didn't want to lower himself to beg Ophelia, but thinking of Freya and Kaida, he felt he had no choice.
"No, this matter must be resolved." Jeffrey insisted. "I'll contact her lawyer first and see if we can settle privately."
Freya watched his back, a flash of viciousness in her eyes.
She couldn't let Jeffrey succeed. Absolutely not.
Just then, she suddenly clutched her chest, her face turning pale, her body swaying as if she might faint at any moment.
"Freya, what's wrong?" Jeffrey quickly supported her, looking anxious.
"I... I'm fine, maybe I've been too worried lately, a bit of low blood sugar." Freya said weakly, her body softly leaning into his arms.
"It's all my fault for making you worry." Jeffrey felt terrible and quickly picked her up. "I'll take you to the hospital."
"No need, don't go to the hospital." Freya held onto him. "I'll be fine after resting a bit. Don't contact Ophelia anymore, let's think of another way."
Jeffrey looked at her pale face, feeling awful inside.
He placed Freya on the sofa, poured her a glass of warm water, and found some candy.
Freya leaned on the sofa, feeling uneasy inside because she didn't know how much evidence Ophelia actually had.
She had always been irreplaceable in Jeffrey's heart. If Jeffrey found out everything was deliberately done by her, he might very well change his feelings.
When that happened, she would really be finished.
Just then, Jeffrey's phone rang.
Seeing the caller ID showing Grandma Hermione Adams, Jeffrey's expression changed instantly.
He knew Hermione must have seen the news online.
After hesitating, he still answered the call.
"Grandma."
"Jeffrey! You bastard!" Hermione's angry voice came through the phone. "What's all that stuff online about? What exactly is your relationship with that Freya?"
Jeffrey panicked and quickly explained: "Grandma, let me explain. It's not what you think."
"Not what I think?" Hermione laughed coldly. "The photos are everywhere, and you still want to make excuses?"
"You were fooling around with that woman before you even divorced Ophelia? And had her give you a child?"
"How did the Adams family produce a bastard like you!"
Hermione got angrier as she spoke, her tone becoming increasingly severe.
"Grandma, I was wrong. I'll never do it again." Jeffrey could only keep apologizing.
"You think knowing you're wrong is enough?" Hermione said angrily. "Get back to the Adams Mansion right now and explain everything to me!"
"If you dare not come, don't call me your grandma anymore, and don't expect to get any of the Adams family assets!"
With that, Hermione hung up directly.
Jeffrey held his phone, his face deathly pale.
He knew Hermione's temper - she meant what she said.
If he didn't go back to the Adams Mansion, he would not only lose Hermione's support but might not get any of the Adams family business either.
"What's wrong?" Freya asked with fake concern, though she was thrilled inside.
"My grandma wants me back at the Adams Mansion." Jeffrey frowned, looking troubled. "Freya, I have to go back."
"What about me?" Freya's eyes reddened, and she started crying again. "Ophelia's lawyer's letter hasn't been resolved yet. I'm scared to be alone."
"You rest well at home first," Jeffrey patted her head. "After I handle things at the Adams Mansion, I'll come back and help you resolve this."
With that, he grabbed his coat and hurried out of the office.
Watching Jeffrey's retreating figure, the vulnerability on Freya's face instantly disappeared, replaced by a calculating look.
It was actually good that Jeffrey left - it gave her an opportunity. She took out her phone.
The Adams Mansion.
Jeffrey stood with his head lowered, receiving Hermione's scolding.
"Look at you, such a grown man, how can you be so thoughtless?" Hermione sat on the sofa, her face white with anger. "What did Ophelia do wrong to you? Why did you treat her like this?"
"You got together with Freya and had her give you a child. Where does that leave the Adams family's reputation?"
Jeffrey didn't dare speak up, only kept admitting his mistakes: "Grandma, I was wrong. I'll never do it again."
"Wrong? What good does admitting it now do?" Hermione snorted coldly. "Ophelia has already sued Freya. This matter is known to everyone. You've ruined the Adams family's reputation!"
"And your company's current situation - you think I don't know? The cash flow is about to break, and you're still fooling around with that woman!"
"I'm telling you, if you can't handle this matter properly, can't get Ophelia to drop the lawsuit, can't break things off cleanly with Freya,"
Hermione's eyes turned cold, "Don't expect to inherit any of the Adams family business!"
Jeffrey panicked and quickly said, "Grandma, I'll definitely handle it. I'll definitely break things off with Freya and get Ophelia to drop the lawsuit!"
"You'd better." Hermione didn't look at him anymore and waved her hand. "Go back now. Handle things quickly and give me an answer."
Jeffrey felt relieved and quickly got up and left the Adams Mansion.
Walking out of the Adams Mansion, Jeffrey let out a long breath, but his heart felt heavy.
Break things off with Freya?
He couldn't do it.
But he couldn't ignore Hermione's words either.
And then there was Ophelia - getting her to drop the lawsuit probably wouldn't be easy.
He took out his phone, wanting to call Freya, but found her phone wasn't going through.
He felt a bit uneasy and quickly drove toward Jeffrey Technologies.
Back at Jeffrey Technologies, the office was empty.
"Freya?" Jeffrey called out. No response.
