Chapter 49

Chapter 49
Nyra's POV

As I sat at the back of the taxi, I pressed my head against the window and let some drops of tears stream down my face, I had ruined the good things my new life ought to have brought to me.

I shouldn't have gone off to Ethan, now I wasn't sure if things were going to be the same, ever again. My eyes looked down at my hands,

I gulped, I could feel them turning into wolf claws once again, evident that what Ethan and his witch friend said was true, and my heart skipped some beats just from the thought of it. All I wanted was to be free from everything and being wolfless was going to make it possible to escape the life I ran away from but now.

Now I was growing claws, having uncontrollable urges and having my canines elongate to the point where I could feel how pointy they were.

The taxi dropped me off at the road leading to the house as requested and I walked down the rest of it. I couldn't risk losing control right there in the taxi and probably killing the driver.

I glanced at my watch, and I was certain Fiona wouldn't be home. She usually came home past eight or nine, and it was just past six. I opened the door of the garden and went through it, climbing the stairs with the dim lights on and shutting the door of my room behind me as I got in.

My back grazed the wall and remained there. I exhaled lightly.

Special. Powerful bloodline. Blood moon. Big threat.

One by one, the words that meant nothing to me started to ring in my head over and over again.

I could say impossible, but sadly, it was the only explanation for whatever was happening to me, not valid but the only explanation.

I went over to my bed and laid on it. If this was all a dream, then I should wake up after this nap and thank the moon goddess.

I thought of better things, better things, like how life would be if I was good enough for my mate, and he didn't chase me out of his pack. Life would be much more peaceful.

I didn't know for how long I slept, but I knew Fiona's scent woke me up before the noise she made at the door as she tried to open it. I closed my eyes hoping she would go away if she saw me sleeping, but instead she sat on the bed and felt my temperature, then shook me lightly.

“Fiona?”

I stirred

“Hey, is there something wrong?” She shook me softly once again and this time my eyes opened to gaze at her.

Right, Fiona.

Caring yet oblivious, I couldn't stand lying to her, and now I had to pretend like I wasn't turning into a creature that could rip her head off if not under control.

“You left the office earlier than usual,” she added, brushing damp strands of hair that clung to my face.

With that, I sat upright slowly, groaning from the ache all over my body from lying in one place for so long.

“You do know that they all saw you leave the office,” she said.

“I took an excuse,” I replied.

“Yeah, some skin appointment,” sounding sarcastically as if she knew it was all a bluff, I said nothing. I didn't want to lie and convince her that I had gone to see a doctor for my skin.

“Something's wrong,” she scotted closer and studied my face.

I pressed my lips to form a thin line.

“I think my life just got worse than it was,” I said softly and she frowned lightly.

“Oh honey,” still brushing my hair. “I'm sure everyone's life is much worse,” she comforted.

Yes, I guess, but not everyone was a wolfless wolf who had just realized she had a wolf whom she couldn't control and will kill a handful of humans when she does.

“No, you don't understand, all I wanted was a fresh start, and now I don't think I'm ever going to get it.”

I told her that even though she didn't know, Fiona brushed my hair and placed my head on her shoulders as she hugged me tightly and after some minutes, she pushed me back and arched her brow.

“What's this about, huh? Did Finn do anything to you?”

Yes, Finn.

He was trying to help, and every normal person would appreciate it, but I was far from normal.

“I broke his heart too,” my voice cracked as I leaned back on to her.

“Oh darling, this isn't your fault,” she struck my back till she was sure I was okay, then pulled me from her knowing what would make me feel better.

“You're going to the office tomorrow, right?” She asked, and I shrugged, dragging myself back to sleep, but she held on to my shoulders to stop me.

“Come on, you need to… it's the official office camp.”

Now that caught my attention.

“Camp?”

I was still new to the human choice of words, but it did sound like we were going to raise tents and sit together. That was what warriors of the Alpha did.

“Yes camp,” she smiled. “The eclipse is something we would want to watch together, maybe it'll help with some fashion ideas…

I didn't see how that made sense.

“Oh right,” I said regardless.

If I was right about my presumptions and Ethan was right about the blood moon coming in a few days, then I couldn't be in that camp, I couldn't be anywhere close to anyone, at least just long enough for the blood moon to pass, and it was certain that I was not what they thought I was.

I gulped at her excitement.

“So you have to be in the office tomorrow, we'll give out orientations and just a little identification stuff for the camp ahead. You'll only get this peek's insight because you're living with the CEO,” she squealed, and I forced laughter as well.

I watched her finally rise from where she sat.

“I should go make you some tea,” patting my head as she left for the door.

And as the door clicked shut, a cold shiver raced down my spine, my claws slid out, my vision blurred to crimson, and I realized with bone-deep certainty that the blood moon was no longer waiting for me, it was already hunting me.
