Chapter 169: KENN: Return, My Crazy Girl

Kenn’s POV

Several hours later, my phone rang. There was a call from Father. As far as I knew, none of his calls were ever unimportant. In a situation like this, I did not want any sound disturbing Frel's rest. After thinking for a moment, I decided to leave the house and answer the phone inside the car parked in front of the stall.

"Halo, Father? What is it?" I asked as I pressed the answer button.

"Come home now, Kenn. There is something important we need to discuss about the company." Father's voice sounded firm, leaving no room for argument.

"Business again? Father, please understand my situation," I complained while pinching the bridge of my nose.

"There are no buts, Kenn. This concerns your future as well. I will wait in the study in one hour," Father cut in coldly.

"I can't right now. There is something more urgent here," I replied in a restrained tone.

"What is more important than the company? That girl?" His voice rose.

"Yes, she is far more important! Don't force me to come home if it's only to discuss those boring numbers!" I snapped before ending the call unilaterally.

While receiving the call, my feelings were uneasy. I felt something calling me to quickly return and look after Frel. That premonition was right. As soon as I returned inside the house, I went straight to the room and found it empty. Frel was not there.

I ran and shouted her name. I became extremely panicked. "Frel, where are you? I know you are still in the house. Frel!"

"Don't joke around, Frel! This is not funny!" I shouted again while checking under the bed and behind the wardrobe.

I even threw several things when I found the room empty. My hand slammed against the wall as an outlet for my anger.

"Damn it! I shouldn't have left her alone." I cursed harshly because I felt negligent in guarding her. "Frel! Answer me, damn it!"

"Come out, Frel! Please, answer my voice!" My voice began to tremble because of the overwhelming fear.

In a house measuring five by fifteen meters, it should not have been too difficult for me to find her. As a last option, I ran toward the kitchen located at the far back of the house. My heart pounded wildly with the hope that nothing had happened to her. However, that hope vanished. My heart seemed to stop beating.

For a moment I was frozen and my body stiffened when I saw Frel lying on the floor with a wound on her wrist.

"NO! FREL!" I screamed hysterically.

I ran and grabbed Frel's body. I felt extremely angry and afraid at the same time until it hurt.

"Frel? What is this? What is on your mind? You idiot! Don't expect me to let you go this easily."

I shook her body hard while saying words to keep her conscious, but her condition grew weaker.

"Frel, you have to hold on. I don't want you to go!" I said in panic. "Stay conscious, Frel! Look at me! Don't close your eyes!"

No, she could not do this to me. She could not escape from me that easily after successfully taking my heart.

I would not let her go the way Hendra left me. No, Frel. Never.

Immediately I carried her to the hospital while holding back my strong emotions.

"Hold on, please. We will arrive soon," I said repeatedly inside the car. "Don't give up now, Crazy Girl! You said you are strong, right? Prove it to me!" I kept rambling while driving the car at high speed.

The thought that I might have arrived too late made the fear seem to gnaw and grip my heart.

Look at her now. Even though the operation has gone smoothly, her condition is still very worrying. She is like a body without a soul that cannot move or even say my name. Her gaze is always empty and staring far away.

"Frel, it's me, Kenn. Can you see me?" I asked softly while holding her pale fingers. However, there was no response.

I just realized that from the beginning I had already liked her. Actually I started to be interested from the first time I saw her.

Since I saw her on the street on the first day of school orientation, when she chased, shouted, and cursed at the public transportation driver who left her behind.

"Stop, wait for me!" she shouted at that time with a reddened face. "You bastard driver! A driver with no feelings!"

Even though at that time I clicked my tongue in annoyance and kept driving, through the rearview mirror I watched her foolish actions several times.

"Crazy girl," I muttered at that time while smiling faintly as I looked at her through the rearview mirror.

She is the most unique girl I have ever known. She is stubborn, yet funny. She is talkative, yet her voice always makes me miss her. She is careless, yet also brave. She is very expressive and delightful. She is spoiled, yet she can act mature at certain times. She is emotional, yet also loving. She often does things without thinking twice, yet she is the only girl who can make me emotional and worried at the same time.

She is a cheerful girl, even though her past is full of wounds.

But now, she lies weakly on the hospital bed as if she no longer has the spirit to live. If I could choose, I would rather have her wake up and shout at me again, scream insults at me, or anything at all, rather than have to see her like this.

"Come on, wake up. You can scold me as much as you want, just don't stay silent like this," I whispered beside her bed. "Hit me, curse me, do anything you want as long as you return to being the Frel I know."

I miss her. I miss arguing and talking with her. I also miss teasing her. I miss everything about her.

"You know? The world feels very quiet without your chatter." I tried to chuckle even though my heart hurt.

I cannot lose her.

I am sure, sooner or later she will return.

When that time comes, I promise I will confess my feelings to her directly and will not let anyone hurt her again.

"I will wait for you, Frel. No matter how long it takes. So, come back to me," I concluded while kissing the back of her hand.
