Chapter 45
Chapter 45
Sebastian
All of us are loaded with as many weapons as we can carry when we climb into one of our reinforced SUVs. The tension and anxiety is palpable. No one speaks at first, but my curiosity gets the better of me.
“Where are we going?” I ask Lan.
He’s taken the driver's seat this time which makes me fidget in annoyance. I prefer to drive, but I am deferring to him so that I can slide in back with Willa. She’s sandwiched between me and Maxim. Even though the situation we’re about to walk into could turn into a shit show, being next to Willa is calming me. My father would call a woman a distraction, and he made that known to me at an early age. He found my mom a burden in his life, and I tried to adopt that same mindset. I had for a long time until Willa. Her presence is a palpable thing. She doesn’t have to call attention to herself for you to feel her or notice her.
Her presence is silent and intense. She fills something between all of us that I didn’t realize we were missing. We had been moving through the world like it was business as usual when none of us knew the first thing about living a normal life. Having a relationship without someone who wasn’t toxic or using us for the power behind our names has been beyond hard to find. Willa doesn’t need us. I have no doubt she and her family could take down my father on their own, but they don’t have to. I won’t let them.
As if she could sense my racing thoughts I feel Willa’s hand take mine and she threads her fingers through mine. I glance at her and see a small smile on her face but I also see concern.
“You okay?” She asks.
I could lie.
I could tell her I’m fine and brush her question off with a shrug, but I don’t. Not this time. Not with her.
“This is a trap. He’s drawing us out.” I say before clenching my jaw. “It’s too easy. He picked a place only a few hours away and knew how easy it would be for Lan to find it.”
“It wasn’t easy, but I agree. He chose a place not only in the same state but only a couple hours' drive from the college. From the maps, it’s in the middle of nowhere. It is a trap, but we aren’t going in unprepared.” Lan tells us.
He would normally let us know the probability of all of this going very wrong, but he doesn’t. We all go silent again. It isn’t until I feel Willa’s hand slide under mine and she threads our fingers together. My head snaps in her direction and I see a worried look on her face.
“You okay?”
Am I okay? She’s worried about me when my father has taken her family.
“Yeah, I’m-“ I start to say but she shakes her head.
“Don’t. Don’t say you’re fine when you’re not. None of us are fine, so tell me.” She isn’t going to let me brush this off.
Normally I would. I wouldn’t want anyone to see me worried or unsure, but this woman has a way of throwing me off. I’ve felt off since the moment I met her. Fighting any questions or feelings I have for her is pointless. She’s married to Maxim, and even though that pisses me off a little, she’s here to stay. I’ve seen how different Lan and Maxim are because of her and in such a short time. I want that. I want her and part of that means letting her in.
“I don’t know what my father’s game is here. Why this place?”
She glances away and her brow furrows like she’s trying to figure it out herself.
“He wants us there.” She says turning to look at me. “So we’ll show up and find out why but Seb…”
Her eyes get serious. More serious than I've ever seen them.
“When we find your dad…I’m killing him. He killed men from our crew, men who I thought of as family. Then he kidnapped my parents and my brothers. Those things can’t be forgiven.” She sucks in a breath. “This thing ends when he’s dead, and I’ll be the one pulling the trigger.”
I should fight her on this. The honor of killing my father is mine as well, but the look on her face right now. It’s the look of a woman you do not want to cross. So I reach over with my free hand and tip her chin up so she’s looking me in the eyes when I tell her…
“Take your revenge beautiful.” I lean in and brush my lips against hers.
I’m about to pull away but she wraps her hand around the back of my neck and parts her lips. One brush of her tongue against my lip makes any control I have left snap. I twist more to face her and free my hands so that I can pick her up and pull her onto my lap. She doesn’t fight me and I tell myself that I need to make sure she buckles up next time. Right now I don’t give a shit because she’s on my lap and kissing me like she wants me. Now.
There’s a snicker from somewhere but I ignore it and hold on to her hips while she starts to grind down on me. I’m hard. So hard that if she keeps doing this I might embarrass myself before we have to head into what is most likely a very dangerous situation. We shouldn’t be doing this while the car is moving either, but if anyone tried to take her from me right now they wouldn’t enjoy what I would do to them.
“This is not the time for this shit.” I hear Luke growl from the front seat.
“Shut it Lucky, I'm enjoying the view,” Maxim says.
“Don’t you fucking call me Lucky!” Luke snaps and Maxim laughs.
“Perhaps this could wait until later. It’s highly distracting.” Lan adds.
“Keep your eyes on the road unless you want to accidentally kill her,” Luke says.
No one points out that we would also be hurt if we ended up crashing, no all of our concern lies with the woman currently driving me crazy. If anything happened to her, hell would rain down on the world.
She does release me though and smiles down at me. “Maybe we should put a pause on this.”
Shit, she’s right but…
“Lan pull over,” I say.
“What?” Lan asks glancing over his shoulder at me.
“Pull the car over,” I say slowly to make sure he understands me.
“Are you fucking stupid? We’re in the middle of nowhere, and we have a serious issue to deal with. Keep it in your pants.” Luke says.
“I don’t care. Pull the car over now.” I say in my most commanding voice.
Lan surprisingly does as I ask and pulls over. When I glance out the window I realize we really are in the middle of nowhere. The car stops and Lan turns the engine off.
“You have to be fucking kidding me.” Luke protests.
“Oh come on Lucky, give them a minute. Seb won’t last long.” Maxim teases and I try to reach over and smack him but Willa bites my bottom lip startling me.
“This is crazy stupid. We’re exposed out here.” Luke adds.
Willa pulls away to sit on my knees and drops her head back with a sigh. “Luke I swear to god if you don’t get out of this car I won’t let you touch me for a month.”
That shut him up quickly.
