Chapter 79 Live a Life on the Edge
Chapter 79 Live a Life on the Edge
Victoria lay there, utterly spent, not even able to lift a finger, her chest gently rising and falling, evidence of the intense lovemaking she had just experienced.
Nathaniel pulled back, planting a kiss on her sweaty forehead, his voice husky and content, "You good?"
Too exhausted to open her eyes, Victoria managed a soft "Mm" through her nose, completely drained.
A light tap on the car window shattered the lingering intimacy.
It was Sam, back from wherever he had gone.
Nathaniel casually grabbed a suit jacket, draping it over Victoria's naked form before rolling down the window.
Sam, cheeks still flushed, handed over a paper bag, avoiding peering into the car.
"Mr. Cross, here are the clothes."
"Alright, just leave 'em there," Nathaniel replied flatly.
Sam passed the bag through the window, quickly retreating, standing stiffly and avoiding eye contact.
Nathaniel closed the window, passing the bag to Victoria.
"Get up and change."
Struggling, Victoria sat up, the jacket slipping off to reveal her body marked with the aftermath of their passion.
Blushing furiously, she hastily wiped herself clean before clumsily donning the new dress.
It was a simple black dress, soft and just long enough to cover her knees, hiding the evidence of their tryst.
Feeling more composed, though her legs still trembled, she glanced at the driver's seat, murmuring weakly, "Mr. Cross, I... I can't drive."
Nathaniel had already straightened up, his demeanor aloof and dignified once more.
He shot her a look, a faint smile tugging at his lips, a hint of warmth in his eyes.
Rolling down the window once more, he called out to the statue-like Sam, "Sam, take the wheel."
"Sure thing, Mr. Cross."
Sam promptly slid into the driver's seat.
As the door shut, a potent mix of musk, sweat, and a woman's fragrance lingered in the air, stirring Sam's senses.
He felt all the blood in his body rush downward, his cheeks aflame.
He didn't even dare to look in the rearview mirror to see what was happening in the back; he could only stare straight ahead, gripping the steering wheel tightly.
"Where to, Mr. Cross?" He attempted a steady tone, but a subtle quiver betrayed his nerves.
In the back, Victoria had slumped against Nathaniel's shoulder, exhausted.
Nathaniel held her waist, coolly stating, "Back to base."
"Got it."
Sam started the car.
The Mercedes G-Class tore through the night, tension thick in the air.
Sam couldn't resist stealing glances at Victoria in the mirror, her demeanor so alluring it sparked inappropriate thoughts.
Unwanted arousal surged, creating an uncomfortable situation.
He anxiously squeezed his legs together, dreading revealing his state to the occupants in the back.
His hands trembled on the wheel, sweat beading on his palms.
He dreaded the idea of losing control if Nathaniel and Victoria engaged in more behind him.
After ten minutes, the car halted at a massive black iron gate.
The gate, 15 feet tall, bristled with barbed wire, flanked by towering walls bathed in searchlight beams that sliced through the darkness like blades.
At the gate, heavily armed guards clad in black combat gear stood stoically, their faces impassive, eyes keen as hawks.
Spotting the Mercedes G-Class's license plate, they swiftly lowered their weapons.
With a groan, the massive iron gate swung open.
Sam maneuvered the car inside and parked in a vast area.
Stepping out, Sam was greeted by a patrolling guard who hailed him warmly, "Sam, you're back."
"Yep," Sam replied, slipping back into his efficient demeanor.
"Sam, who's this..." The guard's gaze drifted to Victoria emerging from the back seat, a mix of surprise and curiosity in his eyes.
In this male-dominated environment, a woman as striking as her stood out like a diamond in the rough, capturing everyone's attention instantly.
"Don't ask questions you don't need answers to," Sam's expression darkened as he cautioned.
"Got it, Sam." The guard quickly averted his gaze, not daring to look again.
Following Nathaniel, Victoria entered this unfamiliar territory for the first time.
She was taken aback by the scene unfolding before her, her heart racing.
Unlike any place she had seen Nathaniel before, this location lacked opulent decor or fine art; instead, it exuded a cold, austere ambiance.
It was a sprawling militarized compound.
Armed men marched across the square, their demeanor rigid, faces stern. In the distance, the echo of gunfire resonated from the shooting range.
The air carried a distinct blend of gunpowder, oil, and the metallic tang of blood.
Unfazed by the prying eyes, Nathaniel guided Victoria straight into the largest structure.
"Mr. Cross, is this your headquarters?" Victoria inquired softly.
Nathaniel nodded, "Yep."
As they proceeded, Victoria's heart sank deeper with each step.
She observed individuals meticulously cleaning an array of gleaming firearms and ammunition in a corner, from handguns to submachine guns, even sniper rifles typically reserved for movie screens.
Continuing on, two men carrying a stretcher approached them.
The figure on the stretcher lay shrouded beneath a white sheet, their identity concealed, yet the rigid outline and the dark crimson seeping from beneath hinted at a lifeless form.
Death appeared to be a routine occurrence in this setting.
Victoria's complexion paled, her body trembling uncontrollably.
Instinctively, she clutched Nathaniel's arm, seeking solace as if it were her sole anchor.
Nathaniel halted, gazing down at her, his eyes betraying no emotion.
"Scared?" he inquired, his tone composed, devoid of feeling.
Victoria bit her lip, her frame unconsciously gravitating towards Nathaniel's reassuring warmth.
"If I said I wasn't scared, would you buy it?" She lifted her gaze, meeting his inquisitive stare.
A cryptic smile played on Nathaniel's lips, evading Victoria's query. Instead, he took her hand and guided her into an office.
The room housed only a sizable wooden desk, a chair, and a large world map adorning the wall, dotted with numerous locations marked in red.
Releasing her hand, Nathaniel settled behind the desk, retrieved a cigar from the drawer, snipped it, ignited it, drew a deep puff, then fixed his gaze on Victoria.
Within the swirling smoke, his countenance appeared even more enigmatic.
"You've had a glimpse now, this is where I truly exist, immersed in violence, drugs, death every single day."
"Far more gruesome and savage than anything you've encountered before!"
