Chapter 63 Chapter 63
ADRIANA'S POV
At first, the whole place looked like it was covered with trees. The doors opened and I saw a straight dirt path that would lead me to the street. My heart jumped but I kept it down, telling myself I wasn't going to celebrate now. I needed to get out of here first. I could celebrate when I'm far away from here.
I ran out of the house, ignoring the burning in my feet. At this rate, I wouldn't stop even if I were to catch on fire. I was finally seeing freedom and I embraced it.
I passed by the doors, watching it close back in place after I got out. I stopped for a split second and smiled, finally. I was free.
I ran down the road, not glancing back.
ALPHA XANDER'S POV
My attention was split between making sure Daciana is alright and asking her where the hell Adriana is. I knew they were together last, after Adriana left my office, she went with her for breakfast. It felt like years ago that she was in that office and I was thinking of bending her over my desk and fucking her sweet little cunt. Now, I didn't know where the hell she was and from the look of things, a war was brewing.
The second wolf walked around in circles, I couldn't tell if he was attempting to make me his prey with the way he was circling around me or if he was simply looking for escape. Or perhaps he has since realized that was a losing game and he was going to die in the end.
He has tried following every one of the possible exits out here but I get to him before he has a chance to leap out, he always retreats, scared I would sever his neck like I did with his alpha. I'm not going to kill him, not yet at least. The only reason the alpha didn't get a chance for question is because he is a weak shit and is definitely not loyal. You don't leave your subjects in sight of trouble, and he was about to do that.
I shouldn't be surprised, they didn't have any morals and have proved that by attacking a lone wolf. They had fought two to one with a single wolf. That is just a coward's way of doing things.
I growl at him once, giving him an option. To either stay and come willingly as a prisoner, or try fighting and end up as a badly bruised prisoner. If he was smart, he would realize there was only one true option out of the two.
He looks skeptical for a moment, his eyes scanning the open courtyard for another option. He must have seen that he really is trapped because he lets out a heave and lowers himself to the ground, in a submitting stance. I hear footsteps behind me and mindlink Donovan to come forward, then I send a link to the gamma and tell him whoever is found should be executed. I have the one person I can get answers from and the rest are just a waste of space.
He confirms that my order will be carried out. I stalk toward the now remaining wolf and peer down at him, snarling when I see him tremble with fear.
Donovan appears in the courtyard which makes me look up, he is a bit battered and bloody. He opens his mouth to speak, probably about to say some stupid shit but he catches the sight of Daciana lying unconscious on the floor and he curses before rushing to her. He gets on his knees beside her head and starts checking her pulse, before he looks over her wounds.
"What the fuck happened?" he asks, his eyes widened and taking in the dead wolf and the other one that looked frozen. I shift back into my human form and he shoots me an unimpressed look which I ignore and start toward the house.
"Have you heard anything from anyone?" I ask, walking toward the single door. I was almost by it when I saw a maid running with two large towels in her hand. I take one and wrap it around my midriff while she uses the other to cover Daciana as much as she can. I pick her up and nod for Donovan to deal with the wolf.
"Sure." He walks up to him, studies him for a few seconds before he delivers a mean left hook right up in the middle of his head. The wolf falls immediately, knocked out cold. He stands back up and exhales a proud breath. "I've heard a lot of things, you're going to have to be a little bit more specific." He replies to my earlier question and starts following behind me.
"Donovan," I call annoyed, motioning toward the man that he was supposed to send to the dungeon. He left him lying there for whoever likes to come and do with him as they pleased.
"I've called someone for him," he grumbled, not bothering to hide his irritation. Well, too fucking bad because I'm fucking irritated too. "And what is it you're asking? I'm not very happy following you like a bitch in heat."
I hold back a frustrated growl at his inability to shut the fuck up. It was a really frustrating attitude.
"I'm looking for Adriana. She was last seen with Daciana and I haven't heard her close by." I know Daciana will try to keep her away from anything that could harm her. We all know she isn't as strong as wolves and she probably doesn't even know how alphas, especially masochists like Alpha Jameson believe in patriarchy and they don't let their females learn how to fight.
fight. A lot of
They don't realize just how that is a plus when it comes to pack safety and coordination. I've been with a lot one and one and they really know what the fuck they are doing. Not to mention, it makes you have a larger army, stronger, all the good things.
"Little Cinderella has gone missing?" His voice is annoyingly low and babyish. If it wasn't my sister that was in my arms, I would have hauled her at him just to shut him up. I don't even give him a reply, sighing in relief when Daciana's door comes into view. It is closed which is a good sign, I damn well hope she closed Adriana in there or somewhere else.
"Shut the fuck up!" I snap when Donovan keeps asking the same thing, just this time with different other princesses. He raises his hands up in surrender, not bothering to hide his laughter. I lay Daciana on the bed and stand back up, ready to walk back out and check where the hell Adriana is.
I really hoped she was alright, something was tingling in my head, like someone trying to reach out but they aren't really fully into it. An itch I can't very well scratch at the back of my head.
"Call the doctor for her, I'll go and see where she is." Because I refuse to agree to anything that has happened to her. I hated that Daciana lost consciousness before I could ask her where she was. There is just one floor before Daciana and Adriana's room. I take the stairs two at a time, feeling like an elevator would be a waste of time. Even with my added speed, I felt like the distance between the two floors increased between now and earlier this morning.
I finally reach the floor and even before I open the doors, I know she isn't in there. I feel my claws elongate, fur starting to sprout from my skin. I fight for control and force myself to keep walking to the room. Every step confirms what I already know. She is not there. The door is locked from the outside, which gives me a moment of relief when I see the way it was closed. It was for emergencies and a way to protect the Luna. Daciana has to have been the one to close it and she probably did some tricks to hide Adriana's scent. That gave me a little hope as I undid the locks.
I walk in and once again, have to be plunged back to reality when I don't hear or feel her heartbeat. She isn't here. No, she isn't near and somehow that realization was even worse than the first.
I take in every corner of the room, everything seems to be set in place. I smell Donovan coming into the room, his footsteps a little hurried. He stops by the door and takes in a deep breath.
"Not what I expected, honestly." I didn't answer him, frantically looking around the room, like she was some piece of paper and I would
find her if I just lifted a table.
I'm in the middle of this when I feel a sharp pain in my head, almost like a silver spike was lodged in my head. I know the feeling because something like that has happened before.
"What's wrong?" Donovan asks, I don't get to reply to him before the feeling spreads out almost immediately to every part of my body and I howl loudly, falling to my knees. Distinctly, I hear him curse.
"She just crossed the pack's border." It wasn't a question because he sounded so fucking sure.
