Chapter 53 Chapter 50
ALPHA XANDER'S POV
"What happened with the wolf?" I asked with a growl. I'd been on my way to meet with him when he told me he was already back and in the shower. His exact words had been. 'I was in the shower, I couldn't fucking talk to you when I was naked. I don't know about you but I'm not into guys.' He'd ended with a fucking snicker. Safe to say I felt like breaking all his teeth. I stopped myself before I could though, I knew my anger wasn't directed at him. It was all because of that damn wolf that thought it would be fun if he messed with my mate.
"He has been tight lipped." I pursed my lips. That wasn't what I expected, after he told me he was back. I'd thought he got all the information I needed, not this. I raked my hand through my hair, fighting the urge to tug at the strands.
"All night?" he gave a look that suggested I was stupid before nodding. "Did everything to the fucker but he refused to speak." Donovan mumbled. He let his cool mask slip but only for a few seconds. I saw the anger beneath his joking words, he was disappointed he couldn't get the wolf to talk.
He may be anything, right from disrespectful to even disloyal, but one thing he wasn't is, incompetent. If there was anything that needed to be done, he would be sure to do it. Anything that involved the pack, he made sure he did it perfectly. It was one of the reasons I was skeptical about his position, he was doing good as the beta although he wasn't the best person out there. I felt I could overlook some of his habits as long as he does his job well, which he does.
"Throughout the night?" I added, just for clarification.
"No Xander, I went into your harem for a break every fucking second." His words dripped with sarcasm. I was about to speak but his outburst stopped me. "Of course I fucking tried all night!" he snapped.
He moved back in his seat and took in a deep breath before exhaling loudly. "I did everything, forced him to shift and tore his skin open with a silver dagger. Forced wolfsbane down his throat, nothing." I cocked a brow. He had to either be extremely tolerant of that or he wasn't a wolf, which wasn't possible.
"Is he dead?" I didn't see any wolf surviving that torture. And to know he went at it all night. It would be a surprise if I found out his remains actually exist.
"Nope." He said popping the p, I cocked a brow.
"Why?" my brows drew together. "I thought you might want to get the answers out of him yourself. It's you bitch he tried to kill, I have nothing against him." Donovan finished with a careless shrug. He was trying to hide his disappointment so hard and instead of fighting him on it, I decided to just let it go. wasn't worth it anyways.
"I'll go down to the dungeon and see if I can make him talk." even if he couldn't be broken from everything else. I knew he couldn't fight against an alpha's command. I didn't think it was anything too serious anyways. Just one rebellious wolf.
One rebellious wolf that didn't get hurt from silver and wolfsbane. The pessimistic voice at the back of head mentioned. I noted that small fact, something telling me it was going to be a big thing later on.
Not having anything to do and being unable to fully focus, I mind link Candace to hear how Adriana is doing now, and if we would have to take her to the hospital. I've already called the doctor from the hospital. Not the incompetent mumbling idiot from last night, if I saw him today I might just break his neck that instant.
"Did he do any serious damage to her?" Donovan asked after a few moments of silence. I stared at him in question, wondering why he was bothered. "Why do you ask?" I tried to not sound hostile. He stared at me in silence for a few seconds before shaking his head, a slight smirk on his face.
"I'm looking out for our future luna. You know, loyalty and all that shit." I ignored him and tried mindlinking Candace again, she hasn't replied and I was starting to get anxious. I tried to convince myself all that had happened last night was just a case of the wrong place, wrong time but that didn't mean I didn't have other things to worry about. First off, there was a wolf in my territory and no one could detect him until he had done damage. Thankfully not so bad. But what would have happened had I not been there? What if he was looking for Adriana and it wasn't just a chance?
Then the one question that gave me the most anxiety, what if there were more of them here? He didn't have a scent on him so if the others were present, we wouldn't be able to tell.
"Call for a meeting with the warriors. Training should go on for a few hours longer and schools should close sooner. All after school activities should be canceled until further notice and there should be at least two teachers to make sure all of the pack kids have left safely." I listed off the rules one after one.
Donovan straightened his spine noting the seriousness in my tone. After the disturbing thoughts that were plaguing my head, I would rather we tackled it before it got out of hand.
"Is that all?" he asked. I could feel my mind being more active as he started to mindlink the important members of the pack that were needed in the meeting.
"No, I need you to schedule a meeting with Alpha Jameson for me. If I find out he has a hand in this then I'm going to fucking rip his out from his chest." I finished with a growl. Donovan raised to his feet and gave me a half assed salute.
"Raining hell on those damn creatures. It's good to see the Xander I know is still in there somewhere." I didn't say anything to him as he turned and walked for the door, ready to do his assignment. I would have to go to the dungeon and check on that wolf but I needed to see Adriana more, I wouldn't be of much use if I wasn't in the right frame of mind and until I saw her, I wouldn't be fully focused.
Donovan was almost hit by the door when the door was pushed open violently, almost hitting him in the process. He jumped back just in time, narrowly missing it. "What the fu-"
"How fucking dare you?!" my sister's angry growl filled the room.
I stared up at her, my brow furrowed wondering what the hell she was going off about. "What are you angry about? I have a lot of shit to deal with and it's not even ten in the morn-"I didn't see her moving, but I sure as hell felt the force of her body colliding with mine. Fuck!
