Chapter 52 Chapter 51
ALPHA XANDER'S POV
"What the fuck?!" I heard Donovan's loud voice booming in the halls before he walked into the office. He busted into loud laughter almost immediately after which told me he was taking in the scene. The asshole.
"Daciana, stop." I tried to pull her off me but she was intent on....clawing my eyes out? "Daciana!" AlthoughI didn't want to, I had to use my alpha voice and that forced her into submitting. She released me and moved back, her heated glare still intact though.
"Fuck you, Xander. You're a fucking asshole." She growled before stomping out of the room. Donovan and I shared a look, wondering what the hell was going on.
"You should have put her in that asylum when you had the chance," he muttered like it was the easiest thing in the world. I shot him a glare which he rolled his eyes to and shook his head, giving me a look that said he was very disappointed. "Don't you have a humor?" "That's not funny," I grumbled and took off after Daciana. I needed to know what the hell that was for, because unfortunately in her outburst she forgot to mention what exactly she was angry about. "Let me go and see what the hell is going on with her." I stated, and started walking toward the door. I heard Donovan's footsteps and almost growled, I didn't want him following me.
"Where are you going?" he caught up with me quickly, facing straight ahead as she spoke. "To help you figure out why Daciana is upset. You're an asshole but she usually sucks your shits up because she loves you." He made a disgusted face as he said that. I barely spared him a glance and just kept walking, focusing my hearing on trying to locate her and if she was still having her angry outburst. If it was the latter, I would save myself by going to see how Adriana is first.
"I don't need your help." He shrugged, meaning he didn't say it was because I told him. "I'm doing it out of my own goodwill. You know, someone else would appreciate."
"The only thing you're helping me with is making my life miserable. I have more things to worry about than you." Anyone else would have walked away. Donovan has developed a thick skin to insults, he grew up with a shitty mother and a father who even refused to acknowledge his existence. Nothing I said would be half as bad. Not that I was intentionally trying to be cruel. I was just annoyed, frustrated and tired. The lord goes on.
"You're welcome." He patted me on the back and moved ahead of me. He opened Daciana's door without knocking and looked around, I followed him in immediately after, ready to gauge his eyes out.
"Stop breathing down my neck. It is disgusting." He mumbled when I stood a little too close to him. "Makes two of us." I was only standing behind him incase Daciana wasn't done with her rage. She might haul something at our heads and though it would heal immediately after, I would rather the victim was him. That would be his punishment for disrupting my already shitty morning.
"What do you want?" the owner of the room growled out, stalking toward us like a raging bull. Donovan quickly moved out of the way, exposing me to her. I stepped back just in time to avoid her raised fists colliding with my face.
"Why are you upset?" I stood back up and reached out for her hands. She started waving them every which way but I managed to grip one, which made her use the other one to try and peel mine off, successfully giving me the leverage I needed to stop her. "Let me go!" Daciana screamed in my face.
"Not until you calm down." I told her and she growled, her eyes flashing golden. She was seconds away from letting her lycan side win and that wouldn't be good. I didn't even know what the hell made her this upset, she usually never loses control.
"I won't fucking calm down you asshole. Let go of me or I swear, I'm going to—"
"Hey, hey, hey." Donovan came up behind her and pulled her off me. I sent him a grateful nod and he mouthed, "You owe me." Then he picked Daciana up and then took her to the bed then dumped her on it, she shot up ready to attack him too but he moved back just in time. Seeing how she almost landed on the floor, she moved back and started heaving. Trying to catch her breath. She was calming down, surprisingly without any further hassle.
"Before I allow you to pummel your brother, can you tell me what he did? Again?" he added the last part in a matter of fact tone. I just stood a little offside to the door, wondering what I was going to do with the two people that were closest to me but were also the reason I was close to fucking losing my mind.
I wanted to know what had Daciana acting that way but now that I was a floor away from Adriana, there was nothing I wanted more than to go up there and just hold her, to be sure that she was fine.
The realization came to me like a slap and I sighed tiredly. Donovan and Daciana were locked glaring at each other, both of their anger almost explosive. He must have said something or she did but they were having a stare off. The one person Donovan allows to see his actual reactions are Daciana, it's not because they are particularly close. I didn't know what it was about her that made him be real with her, but he easily communicated his dislike and anger with her. And on the off chance that he was actually happy about something, he directed his real smile to her and not the sinister one he mostly gave everyone else, especially me.
I started to get worried at first, thinking there might be something between them and hoping to God it wasn't true. But then he knew she was his half sister, though I tried to keep that away from her. I knew it was bad but I didn't want her to know just yet. I guess I didn't know how to break the news to her. We didn't have the best father but he was good to her to some degree. I was the one he hated. "Don't start a cat fight now, it wouldn't be befitting for both of you." I pointed to Donovan with a pointed look. "Especially you." Daciana's head shaped in my direction and she hissed in warning. "Fucking chauvinist." I ignored her comment.
"I wouldn't fight with a girl," Donovan said like he didn't look seconds away from doing exactly that. They were like a cat and mouse at times, or five year old kids, more accurately.
"You wouldn't try of course. I'd beat your ass." The only reply she got was a sarcastic laugh. Before it got out of hand, I stepped in between them, and shoved Donovan back a bit. He wasn't expecting it which made him almost trip but he caught himself in time.
"I didn't hurt Adriana." I told Daciana. Of course, my sister thought the worst of me, though I haven't given her a particular reason to believe I would do something good.
Instead of calming her down, it only seemed to remind her why she was angry in the first place. I didn't put it past her to start an argument and then forget why she even started it.
"Then how did she fucking get hurt?! You had a hand in it." She said accusingly.
I ran my thumb over my bottom lip, refusing to give her a verbal reply. Nothing would make her understand right now, it would even be better if I just left her till she was calm enough to listen to me.
"I didn't." I replied with that instead of giving her the response she wanted. She knew I was evading and she wouldn't let it go. "So help me God Xander, if you don't stop being an asshole to her I'm going to send her off to a place you wouldn't ever find her. And you know I can." The way she was glowering told me it wasn't a threat.
While I didn't think there was a place on this earth that she would hide Adriana and I wouldn't be able to find her, the stress of trying to figure out where exactly she is taking her to is the one that is discouraging me. If I know my sister well enough, then I know very well she wouldn't make it easy on me. And just the thought of Adriana not being close enough to me was making my blood boil. I took a deep breath in to calm myself before I spoke again.
Better to diffuse the situation than add gasoline and make her do what she threatened. It was starting to sound like a promise in my head and I wasn't happy about it.
"He didn't do anything." We both looked at Donovan in surprise and shock. I was shocked he was even trying to defend me while Daciana was surprised he was even speaking at all.
He usually let us out work through our sibling issues, like he liked to call it.
"A wolf attacked her when they were playing tag."
"I'm not a five year old. We weren't playing tag." I felt the need to defend myself. The tips of my ears turned pink when he said that.
"Yeah, right." He drawled.
"Tag? How the fuck was she running around when you knew she was sick?" Daciana slapped me in the chest. For no reason.
"Why are you so violent?" I asked instead, moving out of her reach.
"A wolf hauled her at a tree and we haven't figured out why he did that." Donovan said casually. Like it was totally normal for a wolf to
be in our territory.
"How
that even possible?" She looked between the both of us. "and did you say wolf, what the fuck is a wolf doing around here and
how the hell was he not caught in time?" We both gave her looks.
If we knew that piece of information, we wouldn't be here talking about it with her.
"What is going on?" She muttered, more to herself than us.
"That's what we're trying to figure out." I stated, my lips turning down into a frown. "Wolves don't come around here, and if they do then they sure as hell must have a good reason."
"Ugh, can you stop stating the obvious already?" Donovan groaned like a child. "No wonder you're not part of the officials, we would all die twice when you start talking." She ignored Donovan and walked into her closet, leaving the both of us looking clueless. Contrary to what he said, she was the one that refused to join the council because she thought most of the members were stuck up assholes who had nothing better to do with their days and instead, created a committee where they sat and pretended they care what the hell happens to anyone but themselves. It was so very true.
"Do you know who we need to talk to about this?" Donovan asked after a few seconds of terse silence.
"I already told you to schedule a meeting with him. Tell him if he doesn't response favorably, he'll regret it." Donovan smirked, he was alway weirdly happy when there was violence in sight. The sick bastard.
"I will do that. Now go check on your little mate before your neck breaks from how often to look up to see if you've somehow gained the ability to see through buildings."
