Chapter 30 Chapter 30

Chapter 30 Chapter 30

ALPHA XANDER'S POV
I faced Daciana who only shook her head, her lips pursed in anger. She didn't like that I readily agreed with Donovan, but what could I do? It was the only possible option right now.
"What do you know?" I asked him, moving until I was standing only a few feet away from him.
"Ah, give me a moment to catch my breath." I glared at him and he grumbled. "Fine then." He motioned to the brick that was sitting on the other side of the room. "Make yourself at home."
"Donovan." I growled out in frustration. He rolled his eyes.
"Fine then, so fucking touchy." I stared at him with an expectant expression, my patience barely hanging by a thin. "Her wolf is trying to force itself out,"
"Okay, what about that?" Daciana was the one that spoke. My mind was starting to run almost in overdrive, thinking of what to do next, where to go from there. I didn't know how to deal with wolf issues, they were considered an impure breed of Lycans so I can't use any knowledge as a lycan on her.
"Her body is too weak to adapt to the change. The body feels a foreign change, it rejects it. Her wolf side should be the dominant side but her mother must have been human, hence this." He waved a hand in a general direction.
"Are you saying she's human, that she has no wolf?" Daciana's brows were pulled together in question and Donovan nodded. "That's what I don't understand. She seems to have both but that's not a fact."
"This doesn't make any sense." I mumbled. I understood the other part though I had no way to relate to it, but if she doesn't have a wolf and is more or less human, how can she have both.
"If her wolf keeps fighting for dominance, her body weak as it seeks couldn't handle it and she would die." I growled warningly at him using would, as though it was inevitable. He only shrugged and pinned his bored gaze on me.
"Don't go all growly on me, I'm only trying to help and you're not being grateful." I ignored him and turned to Diciana, she looked as lost as I felt.
We were both having a hard time trying to process the information we were receiving. Still unsure if we should trust Donovan, but we couldn't deny there was a possibility that what he was saying was true.
"Donovan, I have to ask, why do you want to help? What's in it for you?" Daciana asked, looking at him with suspicion. He'd said he only had terms but Donovan usually wouldn't have made a deal before he got what he wanted. It was always that first then any other thing after that. Mostly because he knew he might betray you so he always got what he wanted first.
"Daciana, you wound me. Can't a friend just want to help another friend?" he said with a sarcastic tone before his voice dropped to a menacing octave. "Besides, I'm not done with Adriana yet. I promised you that you won't like any of this if you keep having her in this Pack. But let's see how things go, just know one thing, Xander. Don't think I forgot."
"Donovan, I don't trust you." I told him, crossing my arms in front of me. He stared at me with barely concealed annoyance. "What do you want, just say it now."
Donovan chuckled softly "Daciana, you always were the suspicious one. But I assure you, I just want to help Adriana for now. I have no ulterior motives. Now, can we please go see her? Every second counts."
"Fine, let's go." I intoned, glaring him and leaving no room for further arguments. "This better not be a joke, or I won't hesitate to kill you." I warned, he only took his cigarette to his lips and smirked.
"Don't make promises you can't fulfill alpha, doesn't do well for your image."
The doctor was already waiting for us when we got to Adriana's room. She looked at Donovan skeptically and said "I'll allow you to examine her but if anything happens to her, you'll be held responsible."
I thought about it for a moment before agreeing. I turned to Donovan and said "I hope you know what you're doing, because if you're playing us, there'll be hell to pay."
Donovan nodded, understanding my concerns.
"I just want to help her, believe me." He assured me, then moved closer to the bed. He began to examine Adriana, checking her vital signs and studying her medical charts. After a few minutes of examination, he turned to us and said "I think I know what's wrong with her. I need some time to study her condition and come up with a better plan because you might not be willing to accept what I'll ask you to do right now."
Daciana and I exchanged a worried glance. She was still skeptical and I was too, I just didn't care too much s long as he could find a way to make her better. We agreed to let him study Adriana's condition and come up with a plan to save her.
"What next?" I asked and he pointed to the door. "Give me a few more minutes to see if I can try something."
"No!" I said immediately. Donovan shot me an annoyed glance.
"I wasn't asking Xander. Just give me a few minutes." He stressed. I shook my mind, letting him know no was the final answer.
"Xander," Daciana called softly. She placed her hand on my arm and gave it a gentle squeeze. I didn't want to turn away from Donovan but she tugged a little harder, forcing me to fix my gaze on her. "Let him do what he has to. If she'll be fine then it is worth it." I wanted to argue. The look in her eyes was pleading and reluctantly, I followed, not before warning and threatening anything to hurt.
I got an eye roll in response. Dacian tugged me until I turned and followed her out of the room.
tear him apart if he did
I paced the hall outside the room, peeking in every other second to see what he was doing. Donovan wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary. It looked pretty much like he was doing a regular exam.
Finally after what felt like forever, he looked up and motioned for us to enter. I rushed inside, Daciana not on my heels. My eyes went to the bed, where Adriana looked the same to him. I looked up and glared menacingly at Donovan, he only shrugged.
"Don't start." I opened my mouth to speak, he beat me to it. "You have to feed her." I stared at him bleakly. "Your blood."
I made a disbelieving sound at the back of my throat. "You want me to make her drink my blood?" He nods and replies
"Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. It's the only way to save her right now but if you don't want to, then perhaps we should wait for another option.
"I don't think we have another choice, we have to trust him. We have to do whatever it takes to save Adriana." I take a deep breath and say "Okay, let's do it." I turn to Donovan and say "We'll go through with your plan, but if anything happens to her, I'll hold you responsible."
Donovan nods and says "I understand, let's do this."
The doctor watches Donovan with a disgusted look on her face. "Alpha, I don't think that's a very good idea." I don't do anything to indicate I heard her so she turns and moves to the back of the room. Donovan scoffs and asks me if I am ready to give my blood to Adriana.
I hesitate for a moment, not sure if I am willing to do something that seems so drastic. Giving someone your blood will bind you to them. Vampires mostly do that to sire their followers and make them forever loyal to them. Lycans and wolves do a blood bind when a member joins the pack, but not giving blood that way. I look at Adriana lying on the bed, weak and vulnerable, and that helped me make my decision.
"Let's do this." Donovan nodded before he began to explain the process to me and Daciana.
I took the blade and made a small cut on my palm, the air in the room became thick with tension.
"Shit." I cursed when it healed before I even moved to her.
"You have to be fast." Donovan said. I moved closer to the bed and cut a straight line in the middle of my palm then with almost superhuman speed, put it against Adriana's lips, just like he'd instructed.
The doctor watched with a mixture of horror and curiosity, clearly uncomfortable with the idea of a patient drinking another person's blood. That wasn't common here.
"I'm sorry, I can't watch this." She said before walking out of the room, shaking her head.
I looked into her eyes, willing her to take my blood, to take the strength and vitality I was offering her. As the first drops of blood touch Adriana's lips, her body flinches, as if she is in pain.
We all watch anxiously as Adriana drinks my blood. At first, nothing seems to happen for the first few seconds, then her body begins to convulse and her eyes flutter open. Daciana wanted to rush towards her but I grabbed her back, tightening my grip on her hand until she winced and stopped struggling.
Everything went still from then, my hand was fully healed and she wasn't doing anything. My eyes raged as I turned to Donovan, ready to attack him. He pointed quickly behind me and I watched as her lips began to move, almost like she was searching for something.
I turned to Donovan for guidance, he knew more about this than any of us I believed now.
"Feed her again." This time I didn't hesitate. My fangs protruded and I hit into my palm then took it to her lips. She gulped greedily. Her breathing becomes more regular, her color starts improve, and her pulse steadies.
The tension in the room dissipates, replaced by a sense of relief. Daciana let out a quiet sob and hugged me tightly from behind. The doctor came back into the room and checked Adriana's vital signs. She looked at me and Daciana before saying "It seems to have worked. Adriana's condition is stable now, and she should make a full recovery."
Donovan's expression changed from one of concern to a mischievous smirk. "I still maintain my stance. She's not one of us. Do something about it Xander. Take her out or I'll do it myself." His voice was low.
He turned to me and Daciana, nodded as if in satisfaction and without a single word, he walked out of the room, taking out another cigarette. The doctor who was standing in his way suddenly moved out, watching him with a strange look on her face. The way he moved, it seemed like he had accomplished something he had set out to do, leaving me and Daciana to wonder what his true intentions were and what his next move would be.
I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
