Angelo’s POV: I felt a surge of anger and desperation. “We won’t let you control us! Briar, Celeste, we can fight this.” But the caller simply laughed, the sound echoing off the library walls. “You think you can fight against fate? Against the past? The more you resist, the tighter the grip I have on you.” I looked at Briar, who was visibly shaken but determined. “We need to find a way out. Together.” “Together,” she echoed, her eyes fierce. “Lia!” Celeste shouted suddenly, realizing their friend hadn’t joined us. “What if she’s trapped too?” “Don’t think about her!” the caller taunted. “You’re already too late to save her. This is about your choices, your mistakes, and how they will come back to haunt you.”
Briar’s POV: “No!” I shouted, clenching my fists. “We won’t let you win. We’re not the same people we were before.” But just as I spoke, a loud crash resonated from the back of the library. A group of masked figures stormed in, filling the room with chaos. I grabbed Angelo’s arm. “We need to go now!” “Run!” he yelled, pushing me toward the nearest exit, but the masked figures closed in, blocking our way
. Celeste’s POV: Panic surged within me as I looked around. “What do we do?” “Stick together!” Angelo shouted, pulling us close. “We can’t let them separate us.” In the chaos, the caller stood back, watching with a sinister grin. “This is just the beginning. You can’t escape your past.” Briar and I exchanged a glance, determination fueling us. We wouldn’t let this caller dictate our lives any longer. We had to fight back, not just for ourselves but for each other.
With a loud crash, the bookshelf fell, blocking the narrow aisle and creating a momentary barrier between us and the attackers.
Angelo’s POV:
“Let’s go!” I urged, glancing back to ensure the way was clear. “We need to find Lia!”
“Right!” Briar agreed, her determination shining through the fear. We dashed toward the far end of the library, desperate to find any sign of her.
As we rounded a corner, we heard muffled cries. “Over here!” I pointed to a small storage room, the door slightly ajar. We hurried toward it, pushing the door open with urgency.
Celeste’s POV:
Inside the room, the sight made my stomach drop. Lia was trapped, bound to a chair with ropes, her face bruised and terrified. “Lia!” I screamed, rushing to her side.
“Celeste, Briar, Angelo… help!” she gasped, tears streaming down her cheeks. “I didn’t know they were coming for you… I tried to escape!”
“We’re here now, we’ll get you out!” Briar said, kneeling down to untie the ropes binding Lia. I felt a surge of anger at whoever had done this to her. How could they be so cruel?
Just then, the sound of footsteps approached the room, echoing ominously in the silence. “They’re coming!” I shouted, my heart racing.
“Almost there…” Briar murmured, working desperately to free Lia.
Briar’s POV:
With a final tug, the ropes fell away, and Lia gasped in relief. “Thank you! But we have to move—”
Before she could finish, the door swung open, revealing two masked figures. “There they are!” one of them shouted, lunging toward us.
“Run!” I screamed, grabbing Lia’s arm and pulling her to her feet. We dashed past the attackers, my heart pounding in my chest.
Angelo’s POV:
We sprinted down the hallway, adrenaline propelling us forward. “Which way?” I shouted, looking back to see the figures in pursuit.
“Through the main entrance!” Celeste called out, pointing ahead.
The library felt like a maze, but we didn’t have time to think. We burst into the main area, the chaos from earlier now in full swing. The masked figures had regrouped, blocking our path to freedom.
Celeste’s POV:
“Back!” I yelled, pulling Briar and Lia behind me as I faced the approaching figures. “We need to hold them off!”
“No!” Briar protested, her eyes wide with fear. “We can’t fight them! We have to escape!”
I turned to her, determination fueling my resolve. “If we don’t stand our ground, we’ll never get out of here.”
Briar’s POV:
“Celeste, please!” I pleaded, but the figures were closing in. The flickering lights created an eerie dance around us, heightening the tension.
Suddenly, a loud crash echoed from the back of the library. “This way!” I shouted, pointing to a side exit that had been knocked open in the commotion.
Without waiting for another moment, we dashed toward the opening, weaving through the chaos and past the masked figures. The weight of our fear pushed us forward, propelling us to escape.
Angelo’s POV:
We reached the exit just as one of the figures lunged for us. I shoved Briar and Lia through the doorway, barely avoiding the grasp of the attacker.
“Go!” I shouted, turning to face the masked figure. I could feel my heart racing as I prepared to fight, but Briar’s voice pierced through the noise.
“Angelo, come on!”
I took a step back, realizing that we could fight our way out but that would risk all of us. “Alright!” I called back, turning to escape with them.
Celeste’s POV:
We burst outside into the cool night air, the weight of the library’s secrets falling away as we ran. I could hear footsteps behind us, but we didn’t stop to look back.
“Where do we go?” Lia gasped, struggling to keep up.
“Anywhere but here!” I urged, leading us down the darkened street, my mind racing. “We need to regroup and figure out what just happened.”
Briar’s POV:
As we ran, the reality of what we’d faced settled in. “Are you okay, Lia?” I asked, glancing back at her.
“I think so,” she replied, her voice shaky. “But I don’t understand… Why did they take me?”
“We’ll figure it out,” I said, trying to keep my own fear at bay. “But first, we need to get somewhere safe.”
Angelo’s POV:
As we reached the end of the street, I looked back at the library, the shadows of our pursuers lingering just out of sight. “What if they come after us again?”
“They will,” Celeste said, determination in her eyes. “But now we know we can’t face this alone.”
Setting: The familiar warmth of Briar’s living room contrasts sharply with the chaos of the library. The group gathers, still shaken from their encounter. Shadows dance on the walls as the evening light fades, the atmosphere thick with tension and unspoken words.
Briar’s POV:
We settled into the living room, the reality of our situation weighing heavily on us. I could see the fear etched on Lia’s face, and it mirrored my own. “We should talk about what just happened,” I said, breaking the silence.
“Talk?” Lia echoed, her voice trembling. “How do you even begin to process that? They were going to hurt us!”
Angelo nodded, running a hand through his hair. “I can’t believe we got out of there. It felt like a nightmare.”
Celeste sat beside me; her brow furrowed in thought. “We can’t just pretend it didn’t happen. We need to understand why they targeted Lia.”
