Chapter Twenty -Four: Grandchild?

As Emma sat in her chamber at Jason's mansion, she heard the sound of the front door slamming. She instantly realized Jason was returning from the workplace. It was no sense going to say hey, he'd probably ignore her anyhow. She settled herself on her nice bed as she resumed reading the fashion magazine she had been enthralled with.

Her phone rang, and she jumped. She grabbed for it to check who the caller was, turned out to be Mrs. Arstor, Jason's mom. Why was she phoning, and at this hour?

With shaky hands, she snatched up the receiver. "Hello?" she murmured, her voice quavering.

"Emma? It's me, Mrs. Arstor," said the voice on the other end of the call. Emma's stomach sank. She realized this couldn't be good.

"Mrs. Arstor, what's wrong?" she asked, her heart beating in her chest.

"I've just had a terrible argument with Jason," Mrs. Arstor replied, her voice full with wrath and fury. "He's being so unreasonable, and I don't know what to do."

Emma's mind was racing. What may have transpired between them to produce such a scene? She had to know. "What did you argue about?" she inquired, trying to keep her voice level.

"First of, do you know or have you heard of any Leah, whom he claims to be his girlfriend?,” Mrs Astor inquired.

Emma became perplexed. She knew he had a girlfriend, he had told her about it.. well, her name was Leah?. He even went ahead to notify his mum? What contempt!

Emma was becoming lost in ideas she had to drag herself back to the present. She hesitated about what to respond with.

“Leah? Not that I know of ma’am.” She eventually mumbled. “My husband loves me, he doesn't have any girlfriend. He probably suggested to lift your legs”. Emma said.

She have the slightest idea what she had just done, but she had done it without thinking.

The room was hushed as Mrs. Astor contemplated Emma's statements.

Emma could feel her pulse hammering in her chest, wondering whether she had just made a major mistake. What if this made things worse?

After a lengthy pause, Mrs. Astor finally spoke. "I appreciate your honesty, Emma. And I hope you're right - I hope it was simply a foolish joke. I mainly worry about my kid. He's not always made the finest decisions, and I don't want to see him get wounded."

Emma nodded, happy that Mrs Astor appeared to believe her. "I understand, Mrs. Astor. I simply want you to know that I would never purposefully damage your kid. I love him very much, and I would do everything to make him happy."

Mrs. Astor nodded, a little grin flickering on her lips. "I can sense that you care about him, Emma. I appreciate that. Simply guarantee me that you'll be straightforward with me, regardless of anything else. I know you're a fair individual, and I need to think the best about my child."

Emma gestured, her heart feeling lighter. "I guarantee, Mrs. Astor. I will continuously be straightforward with you. Furthermore, I vow to do all an option for me to ensure your child is blissful. I love him more than anything, and I believe should make him proud."

Mrs. Astor's smile became more extensive. "Much thanks to you, Emma. I can see that you're a fabulous individual, and I'm so thankful my child has you in his life. I realize you'll fulfill him."

Emma felt a liberating sensation rush over her. She had been so apprehensive about what Mrs. Astor would agree, yet unexpectedly she felt like a weight had been taken off her shoulders. She felt like she could at long last inhale once more. What's more, she was extremely grateful for Mrs. Astor's sympathy and backing.

"You're extremely kind, Mrs. Astor," she answered, feeling tears of appreciation gushing in her eyes. "Much thanks to you for allowing me an opportunity, and for putting stock in me."

“Sure. It was lovely chatting to you Emma, I'll call you some other time.” Mrs. Astor remarked and terminated the call.

Emma gazed at the phone for a few seconds before dropping it on her dressing table. Grandchild?
