Chapter Twenty -one: Just what does he want!
The following morning,
Jason placed the remaining contents of his tea cup directly in his throat and swallowed it at once. He took his briefcase and proceeded right out.
Adam was done cleaning the vehicle when he got there, he motioned to him and off they drove to the workplace.
The trip to the workplace was a nice and swift one. Through the journey, Jason couldn't help but worry about Emma. He hadn't seen her since their quarrel. She didn't come down for supper last night either.
He brushed the notion aside and pulled himself back to the present. Why does he care anyway??
A quiet tap came on his office door after he had settled in and was ready to start the day's work.
“Come in,” He said.
As the door opened, Jason glanced up and saw his secretary, Lisa, looking into the office.
"Good Morning….sir?" she welcomed, a wicked grin danced at the corners of her lips.
Jason spotted the grin, he felt horrified but decided to ignore it. She probably didn't intend to.
"Yes, come in please," Jason responded, asking for her to take a seat. "How are you doing, Lisa?"
Lisa took a seat, her hands clutched firmly in her lap. "I'm doing well, sir," she responded, yet her voice sounded calm. "How are you?"
"I'm fine, thank you," Jason responded, retaining a serious expression. “What do you want?”
Lisa rolled her eyes, she felt a little wounded and rejected by his tone.
“What do you mean what do I want?” Lisa questioned, her brow wrinkled.
“Lisa.. are you tired of your job?” Jason asked in a chilly tone, without glancing at her.
Lisa's heart skipped. “Jason,.. are you threatening me because of that woman, your fake wife??”
Jason's jaw clinched fiercely as their hands balled into fists. He could feel their pulse rate growing, and his cheeks felt flushed with heat.
His eyes widened as he scowled at Lisa.
“What did you just say?”
Lisa's eyes widened in amazement. She tilted backwards, she didn't expect him to grow this upset. She opened her lips as if to speak but no words came out.
“Leave my office.” Jason remarked, this time, maintaining his look at her, his face devoid of emotion. “Don't make me repeat myself.” He added.
Lisa rose up softly and went out of the office, without speaking any more remarks.
Jason slapped the table so hard out of fury. He couldn't understand why he was so upset, he rose up from his seat and walked to his window as if enjoying the beauty of the town from the window might calm him down.
It didn't work, so he began pacing about his office. He didn't grasp what had transpired.
Wait, has he begun worrying for Emma? No it cannot happen. That cannot happen.
He raked his fingers through his thick hair in exasperation.
He walked over to his fridge, got out a bottle of vodka and drank right from it. He wasn't patient enough to fetch a cup or whatever. He was losing it and he had to pull himself back.
Taking another drink from the bottle of booze, he got out his phone and opened Emma's contact, he was going to call it when he hesitated.
“WTF is wrong with me? What is this?” He continued doubting himself.
Should he call her or should he not?
**********
Ring! Ring!
The loud ringing of her phone shocked Emma out of her deep slumber. She just came back to the mansion this morning from the club, she was so sleepy and had simply gone off to sleep as soon as she reached her room, she didn't even take a shower yet.
She grabbed for the phone, picked it and pushed the phone to ears. She was too sleepy to verify who the caller was.
“Hello,”
Her deep and sexy voice sent chills down Jason's spine.
“Emma, where are you?” Jason said into the receiver.
No way! Emma jumped out of her slumber and sat up rapidly on her bed. She switched her phone to check the caller. It was Jason!
This was really the first time he was phoning her since they were married. Why was he phoning tho??
“Jason?” She is short of words. He was the least person she was expecting to call her.
“I said where are you?” He asked again.. “and why do you sound like you were sleeping, it's almost 12 pm” he said
Emma heart skipped a beat, she should let Jason know she was genuinely out at the club.
“I simply need some rest," she added, attempting to sound convincing. "I've been feeling a little run down lately, and I thought I could get some sleep in." She waited, hoping that her deception was plausible. "I hope everything's good, I wasn't expecting to hear from you?”
Jason was quiet for a time, and then he spoke again. "Are you sure you're okay?" he inquired. "You sound a little weird. Is everything truly okay?"
Emma bit her lip, trying to think of an explanation. "I'm just a bit stressed," she responded, her voice shaking slightly. "It's been a hectic week."
There was a lengthy delay on the other end of the telephone.
“Alright then.” Jason eventually said and disconnected the conversation instantly.
Emma breathed out a sigh of relief. She glanced at her phone for a few seconds before dropping it.
She went back to her place, laying on her nice huge bed.
As Emma nestled back into her bed, her mind began racing. Just why would Jason contact her after he had put down guidelines for her to obey and now he's the one breaching the rules. She tried to put the ideas out of her brain, but they kept coming back.
“Just what does this guy really want? Why does he keep confounding me and why do I keep falling for it?!” The voice was booming in her brain.
