Chapter 226

Chapter 226

Catherine couldn't believe how helpless she felt.

With all that time, she would find the evidence.

If she just found evidence showing Philip hadn't harmed her father, she could feel okay about being with him.

If she found nothing and he managed to deceive her for a lifetime, there would be nothing left to argue about.

Without evidence, she couldn't legally prosecute him.

She looked at Philip with determined eyes and resignedly answered, "I accept."

Philip's hearty laughter rang in her ears, his tone lifting, showing his current joy.

Philip readily agreed, "Alright, I'll give you that right."

Hearing Philip's agreement, Catherine immediately felt a weight lift off her shoulders.

Did his agreement to her investigation indirectly prove his innocence?

Philip's sharply defined handsome face held a joyful smile.

Sensing his good mood, Catherine seized the moment to plead for Lyra, "Philip."

His large hand gently touched her small face, and Philip patiently responded, "What's up?"

"Lyra..."

"Are you sure you want to bring her up to me?"

Philip's once bright face instantly turned dark and brooding at the mention of Lyra's name.

Catherine was intimidated by Philip's cold aura and didn't know how to continue.

Seeing her pale face, Philip knew his words had scared her.

He grabbed her waist with his large hand, lifting her from the bed and placing her on his lap.

He gently touched her belly and softly asked, "Does the wound still hurt?"

Catherine placed her small hand over his large one and shook her head, "It's been almost ten days, it's healed."

Philip remained silent, his expression indifferent, his handsome face devoid of extra emotion.

Catherine feared Philip, but she couldn't avoid Lyra's situation any longer, "Philip, if it weren't for Lyra this time, I might not be alive. This matter has always been between us, can you not involve the innocent?"

Philip let out a cold laugh, "Sure. I won't trouble Lyra, but I'll go after Ernest and Hazel. How about that? For the past seven years, they haven't taught you well, making you so disobedient. It's understandable."

His words were piercing.

Catherine's heart sank, and she said, "Please don't..."

Catherine held his large hand, soothing his emotions submissively, "It's my fault. I'll do whatever you want, just don't harm Ernest and Hazel, and please spare Lyra. If Lyra's future is ruined or she ends up in prison because of me, I'll never forgive myself."

Catherine said a lot, but Philip remained unusually cold and unmoved.

He couldn't stop her from talking, so he simply didn't respond.

Catherine was so anxious that her eyes and nose turned red, "Philip, if Lyra ends up wrongfully imprisoned because of me, I'll never be at peace with you!"

Philip raised an eyebrow, his eyes deep and sharp, coldly humming, "Threatening me?"

Catherine hung her head, not daring to meet his gaze.

She was indeed threatening him, but didn't have the courage to admit it.

Seeing her timid appearance, Philip's eyes grew colder, "Every time you try to please me, it's always for someone else."

He pierced through her facade with a self-mocking cold laugh, "If it weren't for Lyra's incident, you probably wouldn't even talk to me now. You're truly a cold and heartless woman."

"Who says that?" Catherine pouted, suddenly spirited.

Her small hand tugged at Philip's khaki wool coat, complaining first, "I want to talk to you nicely too. You don't know how scary you are; the moment I see your eyes, I'm too scared to say anything."

Philip chuckled, "Blame me?"

His large hand pinched her slender waist, as if a little force could break it.

For her waist, Philip's hand was indeed a threat.

Catherine's soft body was tightly pressed against his firm chest, she whimpered, "Yes, blame you. When will you change your cold demeanor? I'm not your subordinate, why do you intimidate me?"

Philip smirked, teasing, "Catherine, you're really good at blaming others."

Catherine denied, "I'm not blaming you, ask Alex if he's afraid of you when you're silent?"

Philip clicked his tongue, "Alex is my paid assistant."

Catherine retorted, "Well, I'm not your employee and I don't get paid by you, so why are you intimidating me?"

Laughter echoed in the ward.

He reached out and pinched her small nose, "You've got quite the mouth on you."

In all of Brightonfield City, she was the only one who dared to make him take the blame.

Catherine held his large hand at her waist, bringing up the past, "Philip, I've talked to you nicely, can you let Lyra go..."

"No."

Philip's handsome face held a bright smile, but his eyes were devoid of any warmth, "Catherine, I'm not arguing with you because I care, but as a punishment, I won't let Lyra go."

Lyra was indeed talented, but he didn't need disloyal subordinates. In Catherine's ectopic pregnancy incident, she was an accomplice!

Without a severe punishment, Catherine would never remember her mistake!

He wanted her to know that every wrong decision she made had consequences for someone, so she wouldn't dare to repeat them.

Catherine's delicate brows furrowed, her heart anxious, but she was powerless against Philip.

She had tried both soft and hard approaches, but Philip was clearly unmoved this time, not listening to her.

What should she do to help Lyra?

The next day, Philip personally took Catherine for a follow-up examination, which took some time.

By the time Harper announced she could be discharged after reviewing the results, it was already noon.

Philip took Catherine back to the villa.

After lunch, Philip went to the dressing room to change clothes, preparing to go out.

Catherine glanced at the time, it was 3:45 PM.

"Are you going out today?" Catherine pouted, "How about I go with you?"

Philip raised an eyebrow, "Can't bear to be without me?"

Catherine shook her head, "To investigate you at your company."

She wanted to start her investigation work as soon as possible.

Philip put on a watch and adjusted his sleeves.

"I'll have Alex gather the information you want and send it to you. Just stay home and rest today."

Catherine was unhappy, "Who knows if you'll tamper with the information?"

She insisted on going to his company herself.

Philip clicked his tongue, "You have guts. If you were a corporate spy, you'd be the boldest I've ever seen."

Catherine ignored his teasing and directly asked, "Do you dare let me investigate?"

Philip smirked, his long fingers lightly pinching her cheek, "Of course, why wouldn't I?"

Catherine beamed, "Then I'll go change."

She turned to leave, but Philip's long arm pulled her back.

"Not today."

Catherine frowned, "Why not?"

Philip said seriously, "You just got out of the hospital, don't overdo it."

Catherine pouted, her face immediately showing displeasure.

Philip saw her unhappiness and hugged her to comfort her, "Be good, I'll come back to be with you after my meeting."

Catherine nodded bitterly, not saying another word. When under someone's roof, there's no point in arguing.

Philip saw he was running late, but looking at Catherine's unhappy face, he couldn't leave with peace of mind.

"Go change."

Catherine's eyes lit up, "You're letting me go with you?"

Philip nodded, pinching her nose, "Yes, I can't stand to see you cry."

Alex's expression was full of surprise when he saw Catherine at Nova Pharmaceuticals Tower.

"Ms. Levin?"

Philip coldly snorted, lifting his leg as if to kick him, "Can't you greet properly?"

Alex paused for a second, then instantly understood, respectfully greeting Catherine again, "Good day, Mrs. Foster."

Catherine awkwardly smiled and nodded at him.

She didn't know when it started, but Blondie and the house staff began calling her Mrs. Foster, and now even Alex did, as if she was destined to marry Philip.

Philip took a file from Alex, which he needed for the upcoming meeting, and instructed, "Get the information on the Winters family formula for her to review."

Alex asked, "All of it?"

Philip raised an eyebrow, giving Alex a cold look, smiling, "Yes."

Alex didn't dare ask more and turned to carry out the task.

Catherine walked into Philip's office, pointing to his desk computer, "Can I use your computer?"

Philip smirked, "Of course."
