Chapter 149 Death on the Field
Seeing Henry's stunned look, Alice frowned.
She grabbed his wrist, "Henry, what's up?"
Henry shook his head, turned his hand to hold hers, and gently brushed her palm with his fingertips, "Nothing, I'm good."
Alice felt something was off but couldn't put her finger on it.
Gaia sat there, all smiles, her voice loud and clear, constantly reaching every corner of the room.
Whenever Henry looked up, he saw that splash of red.
He'd never been so mesmerized by a color that it made him see things. What was going on?
He turned to Alice, "I need to hit the restroom."
Alice nodded, watching him leave the private room.
After a bit, Nicole asked if there was any milk; her stomach felt off.
Gaia quickly stood up, "Ms. Allen, I'll go ask for you."
At the restroom sink, Henry splashed water on his face.
He looked up at his reflection in the mirror, water droplets sliding down his chiseled cheeks.
Suddenly, Gaia's reflection appeared in the mirror. She smiled brightly and raised her hand to greet Henry. "Mr. Howard."
Henry pulled a paper towel from the dispenser on the wall to wipe his face and hands. He tossed the paper towel into the trash and turned to leave.
Gaia stepped in front of him, blocking his way, "Mr. Howard."
Henry's face darkened, "Do you need something?"
Gaia twirled in place with a smile, "Do you think I'm pretty?"
Henry's eyes turned icy, and he coldly said, "Get lost!"
Gaia kept smiling and reached out to hug him.
Henry raised his hand and grabbed her neck, "Get as far away from me as possible!"
He shoved Gaia away, causing her to stumble and fall to the ground.
After washing his hands again, he strode out.
Gaia winced in pain, noticing her hand was scraped and bleeding. She looked around, frowning, wondering why she was there.
Henry returned to the private room, took Alice's hand, and looked at Erik, "This project is terminated, and the Howard Group will never work with the Morgan Group again."
Alice didn't know what had happened, but she could clearly tell from Henry's demeanor that he was absolutely furious.
Erik stood up anxiously, trying to persuade him, "Mr. Howard, what happened? We were about to sign the contract after dinner."
Henry glanced at the red figure standing at the door, his anger intensifying, "Ask your daughter!"
With that, he left with Alice.
Erik chased after them, while Opal grabbed Gaia's hand, "What happened to your hand? How did you get hurt?"
Gaia was about to say she didn't know when she saw Nicole swinging a pocket watch.
Her eyes glazed over for a moment before she started crying, "Mom, Mr. Howard attempted to rape me."
"What?" Opal, losing color in shock, let go of her hand."
Gaia turned and ran out, entering the elevator and pressing the button for the top floor.
Opal and Nicole followed but were a step too late, watching the elevator doors close.
When the elevator stopped at the top floor, Opal's heart sank.
She quickly pressed the button for another elevator and went to the top floor with Nicole.
Meanwhile, Erik chased Henry and Alice out of the club. "Mr. Howard, there must be some misunderstanding."
Henry glared at him, "Ask your daughter if that is the case."
Erik was about to say more when he heard cries for help from upstairs.
He looked up and saw a woman in a red dress standing on the rooftop. His lips trembled; it was his daughter Gaia!
At the same time, Henry and Alice also saw what was happening.
Erik shouted, "Gaia, don't lose your mind! Don't jump; wait for me to come up and get you. Don't..."
Before he could finish, Gaia jumped from the seventh floor.
Gaia hit the ground hard, and died instantly.
People from the golf course gathered around, many calling 911.
Someone even suggested calling the funeral home directly.
Hearing this, Erik was both grief-stricken and furious.
He stomped his foot and rushed to Gaia's side, kneeling on the ground, "Why did you jump, Gaia? Weren't you getting better?"
Soon, Opal and Nicole rushed out of the club.
Opal watched in anguish as her child Gaia plummeted, her heart writhing in unbearable pain.
She held Gaia's body, wailing. After a while, she put the body down and charged at Henry. "It's you! You tried to molest my daughter, causing her to relapse. I'll kill you!"
Henry glared at them coldly as he pulled Alice behind him and pushed the irrational Opal aside.
Henry said, "Your daughter cornered me in the restroom and tried to seduce me. After I rejected her, she couldn't handle it. How is that my fault?"
Opal screamed, "Impossible! Gaia would never do such a thing! You're lying! She has marks on her neck, and you still deny that you molest her?"
Erik came over to support Opal, glaring at Henry, "Mr. Howard, you tried to molest my daughter, and when you failed, you got angry and terminated the cooperation. I didn't expect you to be such a person!"
Henry looked at Erik and Opal coldly, "She behaved excessively, and I have the right to stop her, right? I was at the public sink washing my hands, so the surveillance should have caught something. Check the footage yourselves."
Nicole walked over, her eyes red, trying to comfort Erik and Opal, "Mr. Morgan, Mrs. Morgan, please calm down. I know it's hard to accept Gaia's suicide, but you know she had psychological issues. We need to investigate the situation thoroughly."
Opal slapped Nicole, "Are you implying Gaia really tried to seduce Henry?"
Nicole covered her face, "I'm just being objective."
Opal lunged at Nicole, pulling her hair.
Alice didn't like Nicole, but Nicole had spoken fairly this time.
Alice stepped forward to pull Opal away, "Wait for the police to come and check the surveillance!"
In less than twenty minutes, two police cars arrived with five officers and two coroners.
The coroners initially determined that Gaia had committed suicide and had her body placed in a body bag for further examination.
The police went to retrieve the surveillance footage but were told the cameras near the restroom were broken.
The security guard said, "They broke last night. We reported it to the manager and were waiting for repairs today. But we didn't expect this to happen."
Alice asked, "Only this area is broken?"
"The cameras in this hallway are all broken. Some animal chewed through the cables." The security guard explained.
Alice pursed her lips, "What a coincidence. The banquet hall footage was deleted, and now the club's cameras are broken."
Nicole lowered her eyes, realizing she couldn't tamper with the surveillance anymore.
