Chapter 57 My Wife

Chapter 57 My Wife
Selena’s P.O.V.

I sit in front of the mirror, wearing a white wedding gown. The veil is pinned perfectly in my hair. The sparkle in my eyes doesn’t come from the makeup—it's from pure, overwhelming happiness.

I’m getting married to the love of my life.

James.

Just thinking his name sends butterflies fluttering through my stomach.

Two weeks ago, I walked across the graduation stage in my cap and gown, and today… I’m walking down the aisle in a wedding gown. From one dream to another.

And I’ve never felt happier.

Behind me, Stella and Zoe, my bridesmaids, suddenly burst into the room, giggling like they’ve just heard the juiciest gossip in the world. They both look gorgeous in their purple dresses. I’m sure their boyfriends can’t take their eyes off them today—though honestly, they never can. We’re all so lucky to have such loving men in our lives.

“Well, look at our fashion queen,” Zoe says dramatically, hands on her hips. “Getting married before us. Didn’t see that coming.”

Stella nods. “Yeah. You found your significant other after us… but marrying before us.”

I glance at them through the mirror and roll my eyes with a smile. “What can I say? When your man knows your worth, he doesn’t waste time.”

They both exchange dramatic looks.

Stella teases me, “It had to happen, though. Your man is getting oldie.”

Zoe nods. “Right. That clock’s ticking!”

I whip my head around and glare at them, pointing my finger at them. “Hey! You both better not call my man old. He’s just... mature and sexy.”

They burst out laughing, unbothered by my warning glare.

“If we don’t call an old man ‘oldie,’ who else are we supposed to use the word for?” Zoe teases, dodging as I reach for a nearby cushion.

“I just hope he satisfies you in bed,” Stella adds with a teasing smirk. “Or what if you have to press his legs every night because, you know… age-related knee pain?”

“You both—!” I spring to my feet, holding up the cushion like a weapon. “I will kill you!”

They squeal, dashing across the room. “Run! The bridezilla is coming for us!”

“You’re lucky I have a wedding to get to!” I shout, chasing them halfway across the room in my heels before we all collapse into laughter.

They eventually help me back into my seat. My heart is full. My cheeks hurt from smiling so much.

In a few minutes, I’ll walk down the aisle to the man who changed my life.

To the man who makes me feel like the luckiest woman alive.

And nothing in this world could be more perfect than that.

“I’m really glad you got what you deserved, Selena.” Zoe gently squeezes my hand. “I still remember how you used to say you couldn’t fall in love. I always prayed that you’d get the chance to marry the man of your choice and truly fall in love.”

Stella smiles at them. “We’re both so happy for you.”

I smile back at them with moist eyes. “I’m the luckiest girl in the world. I’m marrying the man of my dreams… and I have the best friends in the world standing beside me.”

They both hug me tightly, wrapping their arms around me.

“We love you,” Stella utters.

“Now go make that old man cry at the altar,” Zoe adds with a grin, causing us to laugh again.

As the soft melody of the wedding march begins, my heart pounds like a drum in my chest.

I loop my arm around my father’s, holding tightly.

“You ready?” He asks.

I nod, swallowing the lump in my throat. “More than ever.”

The doors open, and we take our first steps down the aisle. The room is filled with white roses and fairy lights, every chair lined with people I love—friends, family, people who have been part of our journey.

But I only see one person.

James.

He is standing at the altar in a sleek black tuxedo, looking devastatingly handsome. His eyes lock with mine, and I feel my breath become heavy. A tear slips down his cheek, and he doesn’t wipe it away. He lets it fall, lets me see the emotion. A smile curves on his lips like he’s looking at a miracle.

I grip my bouquet tighter, smiling at him, my own eyes welling up with tears of joy. As I walk, all the memories with him flash through my mind like a movie playing behind my eyes…

That night at the bar. The dare. The kiss.
The spark that set our world on fire.

And the very next day… the shock of coming to know he was my father’s friend. I remember the guilt, the inner conflict. I remember trying to stay away.

God, I tried.

But destiny. It had other plans.

The camping trip, where we came closer. The Paris trip, where he made me feel like the most cherished woman on Earth. Oh God, and the way he took care of me while I recovered from the gunshot.

Every moment brought us here.

To this aisle. To this moment. To this forever.

I never imagined a kiss in a bar would lead me to the altar, wearing white, walking toward a man who made me meet myself and fill my life with love and happiness.

And I never imagined my father would be the one giving me away… not with a heavy heart, but with peace in his eyes.

When we finally reach James, my father gently places my hand in his. “Take care of her.”

“I promise I will,” James replies.

Then he kneels.

In front of everyone, he kneels and kisses my hand—like I’m his queen, like I’ve completed him. His forehead rests against my fingers for a second, and I can see the gratitude in his eyes.

Everyone claps and cheers softly. I glance around, my heart full of emotions.

My friends are beaming, sitting with their significant others. My father is smiling with pride. Even my mom dabs her eyes, clearly moved. Everyone important to us… They’re all here, happy for us.

I silently thank the universe—thank God—for aligning all the stars to bring us here. For giving me everything I’ve ever wanted.

James rises and gently squeezes my hand as the priest begins the vows.

“James Luther, do you take Selena Anderson to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for better or worse, for as long as you both shall live?”

“I do. A thousand times, I do.” He responds, smiling at me, his eyes sparkling.

“And Selena Anderson, do you take James Luther to be your lawfully wedded husband, to love and to cherish, to stand beside in all things, for as long as you both shall live?”

I beam at him. “I do. With all that I am.”

Then the priest finally says the words we’ve waited so long to hear. “I now pronounce you husband and wife. James, you may kiss the bride.”

James reaches up and lifts the veil from my face gently, his eyes glued to me.

His eyes drink me in for a long moment.

Then he cups my face, brushing his thumb across my cheek. “Finally, you’ve become my wife, little miss. I was counting every second for this day.”

And then he kisses me.

The way he did the night we met.

The way he always does.

Like he owns my lips. Like I’m his and he’s mine.

But today—it feels different.

Because this kiss is our beginning.

As husband and wife.

Forever.
