"I have more details about Kira," Shane says on the phone.
Kira is in the passenger seat, and I’m about to drive off. I peek at her and find her face has grown pale. Her hands are on her knees, and her entire person looks like she’s on the verge of bolting out of the car.
What was supposed to be Kira’s punishment for her constant taunting ended up turning into hours of incessant fucking in my office. I’m driving her home because it’s too late to catch the bus. She could have gotten a cab, but I’m too jealous of an asshole to let Kira sit in someone else’s car while her pussy throbs from all the times I’ve been inside her.
I move my phone from my right hand to the left, keeping it farther from Kira. "I’ll see you in an hour."
As I drive off, Kira can’t hold her curiosity. "Girlfriend?"
I glare at her. "No. I’m not the kind of man to come in one woman and run home to another. Don’t ever ask such a meaningless question again."
She gapes in shock. "I only wanted to know—"
"If it’s Shane I was talking to," I complete the statement for her.
She looks out the window. "Yes. Shane has been looking into me, hasn’t he?"
I don’t deny it. "If you have nothing to hide, his snooping shouldn’t unnerve you."
"I guess."
Whatever Shane has discovered about her is presumably the truth. The woman is trembling like a leaf and I’ve yet to discover what secrets she had tucked away.
The drive to her apartment is once again quiet. A few times, I catch Kira staring at me, gearing up to say something, but she remains silent. She must be terrified of what Shane is going to tell me, but she doesn’t know that her cover has long been blown.
I could get her out of her misery right now and reveal the secret I know, but what’s the fun in that?
When we arrive, I call the elevator and go up with Kira, only turning to leave after ensuring there’s no sketchy person waiting in the house.
"Rhys…" she claps a hand over her mouth. "I mean, Mr. Redmond, what’s going on between us now?"
I turn back and grip her hand. "Am I only Rhys when I’m inside you?"
Her face flushes. "Rhys."
The sound of my name on her lips is erotic even when I’m not doing anything sexual with her. I need her to rest, so I answer her question. "Fucking. That’s what is going on between us. If you get bored, say the word and we will never speak of it again."
I wait until Kira nods, signifying she has comprehended me. "There is no going back once one of us decides to end it."
Kira takes in a deep breath. "Sounds perfect. One thing, though."
I arch a brow.
Kira moves closer to me, grabbing my manhood through my pants. "I’m quite hard to please, so try not to bore me."
I laugh. "What will I do with you?"
Before I can change my mind about meeting Shane, I all but flee her living room.
_____
Shane is already on his third beer by the time I join him. The man has made himself comfortable in the cellar, having laid out the best of my wine to carry home later.
"Make sure you replace those," I point at the bottles of wine.
"Nah, you don’t even drink it. What’s the use having fine wine as decoration?"
Shane is right. I prefer hard liquor most of the time, but I swap his beer and down the rest of it, anyway.
"Hey, get your own drink!" he whines like we’re still in kindergarten, scuffling over a crayon.
"So, Kira Davidson," I prompt.
"You mean Kyra Petrov. She is the daughter of Mikhail Petrov. " Shane shakes his head like he can’t believe the ridiculousness either. "The woman is skilled, I’ll have to give her that. She took me on a wild goose chase, following nonexistent leads and coming up with all sorts of possible life-stories for her when all along, she’s the enemy’s daughter."
So the minion was telling the truth. I suspected as much, but a tiny part of me thought Grisha’s guy was spewing the most ridiculous crap to get himself out of trouble.
"I suppose she isn’t running away from a bad relationship, then?"
Shane cracks up. "Is that what she told you?"
I didn’t buy that story, but I still want to knock Shane’s teeth out for making fun of me.
"Grisha isn’t her ex-boyfriend. He is her cousin."
I figured as much from the revelation of her identity. Mikhail Petrov is rumored to have been killed two years ago, betrayed by the nephew he trusted enough to name as his heir. Grisha was too impatient to wait for nature to take its course and decided to end his uncle's life.
Even so, I have often doubted that Mikhail and his family are dead. That fucker is too stubborn to be killed by a backstabber. Now that his daughter has surfaced, I’m certain he’s hiding somewhere.
I wonder why she chose to work for me. Does she know anything about the enmity between her father and me?
Shane opens another can of beer. "I could run a DNA test to ensure she is Kyra Petrov, but that will take some time. I’d need to steal Grisha’s sample for an ancestry test."
"No need," I say. There’s no doubt.
Shane is relieved to not stalk Grisha. "So, what are we doing with Kira?"
"Nothing." My voice is a warning bark, startling him.
"I was just asking. You make it sound like she’s your woman or…" realization dawns on her. "Are the two of you—"
"None of your business."
It’s already evident that Kira is no spy. She is staying by my side to escape Grisha. I would punish her for infiltrating my turf, but it’s more fun to keep her. I can’t wait to see Mikhail’s face when he discovers that his good daughter has been staying with the enemy.
