Final Chapter 181 Ending

Final Chapter 181 Ending
Cecilia

I stared at the box, my mind struggling to process this development.

I took the box, my fingers closing around the velvet with careful precision. "Thank you for bringing this."

Irene nodded, her expression softening slightly in a way I'd never seen before. "You've done well for yourself, Miss Locke. In England. Better than—" She stopped, seeming to catch herself. "Arthur chose well."

Before I could formulate a response to that surprisingly genuine statement, she was already turning away, heading back down the stairs with her usual elegant composure.

I stood there for a long moment, just staring at the box in my hands, before curiosity finally won out and I opened it.

Necklace.

The necklace inside was breathtaking—a deep blue-gray stone set in platinum, surrounded by smaller diamonds that caught the light and scattered it in rainbow patterns.

The color of the main stone was almost exactly the shade of Arthur's eyes, that particular gray-blue that seemed to change depending on his mood and the lighting.

The Winston family heirloom, I thought, my fingers trembling slightly as I lifted the necklace from its velvet bed. Passed down through generations, now given to me.

The weight of it—both literal and symbolic—settled over me like a mantle.

Arthur—steady, possessive, impossible Arthur, who loved me with an intensity that sometimes terrified me and sometimes made me feel like the most precious thing in the world.

"Ceci!" Alice's voice called from inside the bridal suite. "We're about to start! Max has headed out."

I tucked the necklace carefully back into its box and slipped it into my clutch, making a mental note to put it on before the reception.

Then I pushed open the door to find Alice practically vibrating with nervous energy.

The ceremony itself was beautiful—traditional but personal, with vows that Max and Alice had written themselves, their voices thick with emotion as they promised to love and cherish each other for the rest of their lives.

I stood beside Alice throughout, holding her bouquet and trying not to cry as I watched my best friend marry the man she loved, watched Max's face as he saw Alice walking down the aisle, watched the way they looked at each other like nothing else in the world existed.

When the officiant finally pronounced them husband and wife, when Max pulled Alice into a kiss that was probably slightly too passionate for a wedding ceremony, the entire room erupted into applause and cheers.

And then it was time for the reception, for the dinner and dancing and celebration that would carry on into the evening.

I found myself at the head table, seated between Arthur and Carter, watching as Max and Alice had their first dance as husband and wife.

"They look happy," Carter observed, his voice warm with genuine affection as he watched them spin across the dance floor.

"They are," I agreed, feeling Arthur's hand find mine under the table, his fingers threading through mine with familiar possessiveness.

"This necklace suits you perfectly."

I realized he’d noticed the necklace I was wearing. I turned to him with a smile.

“Do you know its meaning?”

Arthur whispered in my ear, “Of course, my Lady Winston.”

Our eyes met, and we shared a smile.

Sophia appeared then, moving to stand beside Carter with a glass of champagne in each hand. She offered one to him with a smile that was equal parts shy and confident, and I watched as Carter's expression softened in that particular way it did only for her.

"To new beginnings," Sophia said, raising her glass toward the dance floor where Max and Alice were still lost in their own world.

"To new beginnings," Carter echoed, clinking his glass against hers before taking a sip.

Arthur leaned closer to me, his lips finding my ear as he murmured, "Dance with me?"

I turned to look at him, seeing the warmth in his eyes, the slight smile playing at his lips, and felt my heart do that stupid fluttery thing it always did when he looked at me like that.

"I'd love to," I said, letting him pull me to my feet and guide me toward the dance floor.

His arms came around me immediately, pulling me close against his chest as we began to sway to the music. One hand rested on the small of my back, the other holding mine in that classic ballroom position that somehow felt both formal and intimate.

"You look incredible," he murmured, his eyes never leaving mine.

"You’ve repeated yourself so many times today," I said, unable to stop the smile that tugged at my lips. "But I don't mind hearing it again."

"You look incredible," he repeated, and then he was kissing me, soft and sweet and completely inappropriate for the middle of a crowded dance floor.

When he finally pulled back, I was breathless and flushed and completely aware of every eye in the room that had turned to watch us.

"Arthur," I hissed, embarrassment flooding through me. "Everyone's staring."

"Let them stare," he said, completely unbothered as he resumed our dance. "I'm allowed to kiss my fiancée."

The music shifted, becoming more upbeat, and suddenly Alice was there, grabbing my hand and pulling me away from Arthur with a laugh.

"Maid of honor duty!" she announced, already dragging me toward where a group of single women had gathered. "Bouquet toss time!"

I let her pull me into position, laughing despite myself as she climbed onto a chair and held up the bouquet with exaggerated ceremony.

"Alright ladies!" she called out, her eyes scanning the crowd before landing on me with obvious intent. "On the count of three! One... two... three!"

She turned and threw the bouquet directly at me—not even pretending to make it random, just launching it straight into my hands with the accuracy of a professional quarterback.

I caught it automatically, my fingers closing around the stems, and the room erupted into cheers and applause.

"That was completely rigged!" I protested, but I was laughing too hard to sound genuinely upset.

"Of course it was," Alice said, climbing down from the chair and pulling me into another hug. "You're next, Ceci. I can feel it. You and Arthur are going to be so happy."

Something warm bloomed in my chest at her words, at the absolute certainty in her voice, and I found myself looking across the room to where Arthur stood watching us, his expression soft with affection.

Our eyes met, and even from this distance I could see the promise in his gaze, the certainty that matched Alice's words.

Soon, that look said. Soon you'll be mine completely, and nothing will ever separate us again.

The End...
