Chapter 122 A TRIP FOR THE CAGED DOG
Chapter 122 A TRIP FOR THE CAGED DOG
\- MELISSA -
“Alicia, are you joking?” the right general called her by her name without formality again.
Alicia shot him a glare.
Mutheran was in the room, settled on the bed, and I had my head on his lap. He had fed the spell, so I had some time. So I had to play along.
“Arguing will not help us,” Mutheran finally cut in.
Alicia rolled her eyes and Johan huffed.
“Anything. Arguing will not help me understand your points either,” Mutheran continued.
“Let me hear you both one at a time. Johan, you will go first. Then Alicia, you follow.”
Johan bowed. Alicia threw her eyes away.
“My king,” Johan began.
“She’s a danger and an enemy. She…”
His words died in his mouth.
Immediately, he noticed the change in Mutheran’s mood.
Alicia snickered.
Johan clenched his jaw, cleared his throat, and tried again.
“What I’m trying to say is that letting her out into the public can create a public uproar. She could hurt them, or worse, they could hurt her. And they need her, and we need her in good shape so she can serve you, my king, and pay back for her sins.”
Alicia was already impatiently tapping her foot.
Immediately she stopped and took over.
“My king,” Alicia said.
“She will be on a drug, my king, and she will be partially sedated the whole time. She will be in a car too. No one will ever notice her. We need to let her go outside. She’s been here for three weeks. If we need something out of her, we should at least let her out… at least show her we are not monsters. She has been here like a wild dog in a cage. She is irritable.”
Mutheran lowered his eyes and looked at me. I smiled.
“Do you want to go outside?” she asked, stroking my hair.
“I do… I haven’t seen it in a while. But I want to… but I won’t go if you don’t want me to. I want to stay with you.”
His smile vanished.
“You won’t say that when the clock chimes.”
“Why?”
He placed a finger between my lips.
Then he turned to Alicia.
“I don’t know. Taking her outside is dangerous. The city hasn’t gotten used to our presence here. They could hurt her. I don’t want anything to happen to her.”
“Nothing will,” she said, as if Mutheran had said something ridiculous.
“I have the gods with me, dressed in fancy outfits. They will make the civilians stay in line. You don’t have to worry about that. Just give us permission to go outside. That’s all I’m really asking for. Let her see the city and feel at ease a little. Know that you don’t consider her some abomination that needs to be hidden.”
Mutheran sighed a few times before he came to a decision.
He stroked my hair again, then said,
“She needs to be back here an hour after you leave, and you should use roads with less foot traffic, but not too deserted. Am I clear?”
Alicia shook her head.
Johan grumbled.
Alicia wore a proud grin on her face, like a winner.
A lot must have happened since I had been locked up here. Jane had never come by. Lancaster was banished, or so I heard, and Alicia had started acting like the king’s daughter.
I thought she hated all of this… hated what was happening.
But I guess she didn’t.
There were roughly three minutes left before the time was out, and Mutheran spent it stroking my hair, guiding Alicia when she brought an injection for me, and then watching me until I fell asleep. Well… pretend to.
Alicia brought in the new chains, and he locked them on himself.
Usually, I’d always wait for the ten minutes to end. It was something I wanted more than I wanted to breathe. But for Mutheran, it was something he hated more than anything else.
I know because he never left after I had fallen asleep. He would wait to see me open my eyes, curl into an aggravated, broken she-wolf, and yell at him with all my might.
When I reacted that way, he would stand still and watch me with sober eyes and a deep, sullen expression.
He was doing the same thing right now, after he had come close to me.
As usual, I couldn’t care less about his feelings.
“Get away from me, Liking King.”
I said immediately, the moment I noticed how close he was.
He moved back instantly.
I was sitting on the bed.
Then, suddenly, my body began to lean forward slowly, like it was falling asleep while my brain was still awake. The tranquilizers were setting in, and my limbs were turning into paperweights. I slowed my breathing. There was not much energy left to control it.
Alicia entered the room with two guards and Johan.
“She’s ready. We’ll take her with us now,” she informed.
“Alright,” he replied, stepping away from the corner I had chased him to earlier.
He drew close, very close, and leaned in.
I grumbled disapproval and muttered curses, but he still bent down and pressed a kiss to the corner of my lips.
“Fuck you,” I muttered under my breath, loud enough for him to hear, before he truly left my side.
Alicia and her guards carried me out.
There was an SUV and a car with big wheels parked outside. Johan shifted. One of the guards drove the SUV while another transformed, and I was placed in the back seat with Alicia. Two wolves walked beside us while the driver kept pace with them as we moved into the street.
He was barely moving, probably because he wanted to stay at the same speed as the wolves.
None of this was any of my business.
I was busy staring outside, my body clamped to the door like I was super glued to it.
“The view is better from this side. There’s a lot of… very fascinating things to see,” Alicia spoke.
I think she was trying to start a conversation.
I glanced at her from the corner of my eyes. She was staring out the window, watching Johan’s wolf.
I heaved and returned my gaze to my side of the street.
“I know the road trip just started, but are you enjoying it?” she asked.
I said nothing.
She cleared her throat and continued.
“I will pull the windows down if you want me to. The wind in your hair and on your face is perfect to make you feel… .”
I turned my head and shot her a glare.
Does she really think I could feel ecstatic?
Never mind that, I just wanted her to understand that I would shove her head out of the car and let her break somewhere if I could.
But she didn’t get the message.
“If we are not in the palace anymore, you should loosen up a notch. Enjoy this while it lasts. It’s the best you might get.”
“Are you fucking kidding me? Are you seriously fucking kidding me?”
I chuckled, sounding both disgusted and amused.
“Do I look like a dog in a slaughterhouse you toss bones at? Listen, Alicia, I don’t have the energy for your fucked up shitty crap, so just shut the fuck up.”
I paused, gritting my teeth, trying to control the anger that was boiling inside me and tipping over as we spoke.
“Turn this fucking car around. I liked it better in my hole, of a room. At least I… at least I had only Mutheran to deal with.”
That look was Alicia’s smile. I rolled my eyes. She was starting to make me feel like someone paid her to please me today.
“What if I told you that you get to see Luca during this ride if you learn to enjoy it?”
