Chapter 117 DECIDING LISSA’S FATE
Chapter 117 DECIDING LISSA’S FATE
\- LYCAN KING MUTHERAN -
"Growing cold feet?" I hissed, rolling my eyes.
Why do I keep forgetting that he is always around?
"You really shouldn't forget me. You and I are stuck together, after all," my spirit guide whispered, finding his way to Lissa.
"She looks so pitiful," he said, stroking her hair.
"What a shame that she'd have to go."
"What if I decide not to do it?"
He smiled.
The smile on his face vanished. He turned to me.
"Are you... going through the motions again? Don't make me laugh. Don't make me gag, Mutheran. A bleeding heart doesn't suit you. Don't you want your wife back?"
"Maybe I don't. It's been so long. The feelings I have for her..." I trailed off. "Ah, go on now. I want her instead. I want Lissa instead."
"Mutheran, you're a bigger fool than I imagined you to be. You want to give up on a wife. You want to give up on decades' worth of hard work and sacrifice for a she-wolf. Have you considered the harm you will cause?
"Jane isn't your wife's child, but your wife adopted her and raised her as her own. Jane gave everything to have that woman back. But you're just going to throw all of that away for some chick with lips and hips?"
"Maybe. It won't be the first time I did something terrible. Don't try to play on my sentiments, spirit guide. You know I don't have any. And let's face it, if you take the whole world under your foot, no one will see me as a good Lycan ever again. So does it really matter if I do something bad? I'm already a monster in everyone's eyes."
The spirit guide chuckled.
"If you weren't so against me, I would have congratulated you.
"All right. Since you want to give me what I want, I guess I'll give you something too. Trade by barter, like I promised. Trade by barter, you know. Like when I promised to wake your old wife."
"I don't want that anymore."
He sighed.
"I pity the women in your life, and I wonder at the same time."
He turned around and looked at Lissa.
"Why is she still special?"
"You will never understand," I said to him.
"Now let's talk business. Will you be able to bring her back if we get the beast?"
"Oh, we're getting the beast. We're definitely getting the beast, no doubt. But I don't think we'll be able to separate the two. All I can do is allow her to fuse with the beast and become one."
"The beast would be like a wolf in that case," I chipped in.
He rolled his tongue in his mouth, contemplating.
"What? What the fuck? I'll do it. Know one thing, though. When I need the beast in her, she will have to transform. It will hurt her, but she will have no choice."
"I know."
I clicked my tongue.
It would be troublesome, but I should be able to handle that.
I love her, after all.
"She will still have her memories, you know."
He glanced back at me.
"Can you handle that? She will hate you, want to kill you."
"I will take care of it. I can handle it. If I can have her, it does not matter if she feels that way."
He hissed at me, looking back at Lissa.
"You are pathetic, Mutheran. You've become so weak because of a woman."
I tried to speak, but my words were cut off by something.
Lissa had just started shaking all of a sudden.
I sprang from my chair and rushed to her.
I've corrected the grammar, punctuation, and dialogue formatting while keeping your wording and style intact.
I tried to hold her, but she was shaking violently. Her eyes were wide open, but her pupils had darkened so much it was like they were coated in black ink.
I looked to my spirit guide for answers, and he was in the corner, just watching.
"Aren't you going to do something? At least tell me what I should do. Please!" I yelled at him, my eyes bulging from the rage seizing inside me.
"Calm down, my king. She's just dying."
"What?"
I was bewildered at how casually he uttered those words.
My lips twitched. I was still grabbing him by the collar, and he was effortlessly calm, staring at me with sagging eyes and a slack expression.
"In case you've forgotten, she is living off the beast's essence. If the beast is emerging, it means it has to take all its essence back. And when a wolf loses their essence, a wolf losing its essence is a dying wolf."
"How the hell is this happening? I didn't say anything. I didn't say her name. I didn't activate the spell."
"I know."
He shoved my hand off his collar.
"I guess she did. She's willing to die just to wake the beast. I have a feeling it means she's already giving it orders, which will not favor any of us."
"Stop it!" I charged him. "I don't want her dead. I made that clear to you."
"Yeah, I got that. Calm down, Mutheran. Your yelling is making it hard for me to think. She will become a full-fledged beast in just minutes. I need to stop it before then. The beast is of no use to me if she dies now."
He crossed me and came close to Lissa.
I stood behind, my fists clenched so tightly that my knuckles turned white.
This can't be happening.
I finally found a way to keep the two of us together.
You can't go like this.
You can't leave me in this world alone.
Please.
"Call her name, Mutheran. Call out her name so she can embrace the power of the beast."
"Are you kidding me?"
I rushed him, grabbing his collar again.
"She'll die. Do you really think I'm a fool? Tell me what works and stop trying to kill her."
He tore my hand off.
"Don't listen to me then. Figure it out yourself if you don't want to."
I glared at him.
He straightened his clothes, his gaze focused on that while completely ignoring me.
I huffed, tussling my hair.
My eyes swung back to Lissa.
She was still vibrating.
The chair and the chains strained beyond their capacity, and yet she was still pulling on them.
I stood over her, my face twisted from the crushing weight of the guilt I was feeling.
I put her in this situation.
Her fate is in my hands.
I knew how catastrophic any of my choices would be, but I had to make one.
I love her so much.
I can't lose her.
My lips parted slowly.
With a hand over my face, I muttered,
"Melissa."
"Melissa."
She froze instantly, her body slumping back onto the table.
