Chapter 116 THE FALL OF THE WOLF KING
Chapter 116 THE FALL OF THE WOLF KING
\- LYCAN KING MUTHERAN -
The priestess gestured to her servant.
She came forward and knelt next to her. The priestess washed her hands in the bowl of water which the servant held up for her. Then she pressed her fingers on her amulet, closed her eyes, and began to mutter.
I stepped back and found myself resting on one of the seats, crossing my legs.
The others kept standing, watching as the priestess made her amulet glow with those whispers.
Carefully, she raised her fingers off the amulet, guiding it to Lissa's forehead. She pressed her thumb between Lissa's eyes.
The sound of something sizzling caught in my ears. My gaze dropped to her thumb. Sparks were lighting up beneath it, red sparks like from a bonfire. I wasn't the one whom she was touching, but I could tell it must hurt. But Lissa, she was still the whole time, her eyes pressed shut. Her pulse, however, was erratic and in disarray, just like the flow of energy in her body. Something was definitely happening to her.
The priestess's lips kept moving, muttering words on an unknown tune.
She stopped abruptly.
Her eyes burst open suddenly. Even Jane jumped because of it.
She took her thumb away from Lissa's forehead and pressed it back onto the amulet. Then she turned to me specifically.
"If you call her name, the beast will awaken. Mind you, once the beast awakens, she will lose all her essence to the beast, and she will never return to herself again. Think carefully before you act. Her life is in your hands now."
The priestess bowed and stepped away, leaving the room to us.
Lancaster hissed.
"My apologies, everyone, but this is as far as she agreed to go. We are on our own from here."
He scoffed.
"Stupid goddess-shitty people," he cursed under his breath.
I rose, walked up to Lissa, and turned my back to her.
"Fredrick Lancaster, I would like to commend you for all you've done so far. You've been a great help. Honestly, when I brought this idea to you, I saw you taking Lissa, and I thought you would never agree. But turns out you are wiser than you appear. I am very much pleased to have you as a companion."
So it was. A companion. A partner.
Lancaster grinned, making a small bow.
"That would pleasure me."
His lips curled, but the expression vanished immediately.
"I promised you that I would reward you for your good efforts."
"Well," he glanced in Jane's direction and snickered, "you've given me such a delicious gift already. I do not ask for more."
Jane threw her eyes away, her brows pulling into a swollen frown. She looked disgusted and sad. He didn't bother to hide his amusement.
"We'll pass the idea that those were appetizers. The real dish is coming up the stairs as we speak."
His eyes lit up like festival lights. He grinned from ear to ear, unable to hold back a laugh. He pounced over to me and shook my hand.
"You are indeed very generous, Lycan King. It's been a great pleasure working with you."
Before I could accept the handshake, a knock came from the door.
I motioned to Jane with a tilt of my head.
She half-heartedly went towards the door, swung it open and vanished..
Lancaster peered behind me to see who it was. His gesture was like a kid peering to see his birthday gift, so he wouldn't ruin the surprise.
Immediately his eyes made it to the door.
All the gleam on his face disappeared.
"Alicia? What the hell are you doing here?" he bellowed, glaring at her.
"I'm your gift, Lancaster."
She said it while Wolfsbane stood beside her.
Wolfsbane was a troop of guards.
Lancaster flared up, murderously sprinting towards her. The guards grabbed him, pressed him down, and pinned him to his knees.
Alicia flip-flopped around him and perched next to me.
"Lancaster, meet my blood daughter, Alicia."
Their eyes widened so much they could have popped.
He looked at me, looked at Alicia, and looked back at me.
Perhaps that was when it all began to make sense to him.
His anger exploded, and he lunged towards me with his claws and bared teeth. The guards doubled down, wrestling him and forcing him onto his back this time.
I watched with an unreadable expression and cold eyes as he made every attempt to get to me but failed nonetheless.
"I'd save that energy if I were you. The stone prison can be quite hard to cope with if you're weak."
"Damn you, Mutheran. I did everything you asked me. How could you—"
I heaved a sigh.
I was tempted to say, Lissa did the same thing for you too, and look where it got her. Do you see what it's like to be betrayed? But I banished the thought from my mind.
In the grand scheme of things, I hurt Lissa more than anyone in this room.
"It was only necessary, Lancaster. You see, I don't just want the beast. I want the whole world. The Wolf Kingdom is the first on my list. I've tried to get the Wolf Kingdom for years, but the Wolf Alphas were so staunch on rules and so hardcore."
I stroked my chin.
"I guess I have to thank you for being so easy to deal with. If not for you, my dreams would have been difficult to come true."
"Fuck you, Mutheran. Fuck you!"
I waved my hand.
"Take him away."
"Father, can I go?" Alicia mouthed.
Shortly after the guards dragged Lancaster away, I glanced behind me at her.
She shrank away immediately, fidgeting with her fingers.
"You know, I just, um... I just found out you're my dad, and all these things are leaping at me. All these things are coming at me at once. And, you know, I... I was never really part of all this, and I thought that—"
"So you're chickening out."
I cut her off abruptly.
She lowered her head and shifted her gaze from side to side like a guilty child.
"It's all right. I understand. I didn't raise you after all. It's only natural that you're so pathetic."
I stopped before a chair, walking slowly.
"You can get out. I'll call you when I need you."
"I'm sorry, Father."
She spun around and immediately left the room.
Only Jane and I were left.
"Should I call in the Left General's men now?" Jane asked.
I nodded.
She made for the left door.
"Jane."
She paused.
"You may not be my daughter, but you have been better than any child I could have ever had."
"Thanks."
She replied dryly.
I watched her go downstairs, the door shutting behind her.
My gaze trailed to the sleeping Lissa.
To think that if I said one word, just one word, she'd be gone forever.
Can I really bring myself to do that?
To kill her?
