Chapter 112 THE FALL OF A LUNA

Chapter 112 THE FALL OF A LUNA
\- MELISSA -
I felt faint.

No, I wanted to faint, pass out on these floors and never wake up.
Luca's smile should have eased my heartache, but instead, the pain in my chest worsened so much that my ribs felt cracked. I winced in pain, hurting from the mountain of guilt in my life.

Luca should hate me. He shouldn't be happy.

I'm the worst. He should hate me.

If he hated me, perhaps it would hurt less.

“The lies did not end there.”

Lancaster continued. He saw I was hurting, but he still continued.
“She threw herself into the bed of the Lycan King, and she seduced him with her body and her sweet tongue. He fell for her charms just like I had. He loved her genuinely, not knowing she was lying about everything. You would think she'd at least be loyal to him. Well, she wasn't.” His voice dripped with venom as he narrated.

“She learned of my appearance after she escaped, and guess what? She came running back to me. She even pretended to be kidnapped just to return home and fool me once again.”

“Liar!”

My voice exploded out of me, veins popping out of my neck. The nerve-wracking feeling and insults behind his lies were too much for me to overlook.

“You fucking liar! That never fucking happened! Everything you're saying is a lie!”

Murmurs filled the air, drowning my voice even though I was rasping as loud as I could.

Did I need to know what the murmurs were probably about? Not really. No one would take my side. I was the devil after all.
Lancaster started ignoring my cries, his eyes still fixed forward as if I were screaming to myself.

“What should we do to this woman? What do you think, my King?”
My voice seized completely. I froze with wide eyes the instant I heard that name. Tremors rushed through my body and my neck stiffened.

I couldn't.

I just couldn't muster the courage to look behind me.

Silence spread like frost winds across the festival grounds. Everyone went quiet, patiently waiting for Mutran to answer.

I heard the sound of him sigh. It was so quiet that it seemed almost as if he was right next to me.

“I don't care.”

Mutran's voice broke the silence. But that was the only thing he said.
Something died inside me after he uttered those words.

The world began to grow dark. Voices faded. My heart stuttered. My shoulders fell. I slumped backwards, the soldiers catching me instead of forcing me to kneel.

The world continued growing darker, voices fading with the light. I felt myself slipping away, sinking into a stream of unconsciousness where I was drowning like a corpse in a river.

And in that moment, I think I heard a voice.

A growling, deep, grunted voice. “Let me in, Melissa. Let me have your revenge. You can't let them get away with what they've done.”
And the voice vanished.

THREE DAYS LATER
The clanging of metal in the distance dragged me awake. My head throbbed, and my legs had stiffened so much that I couldn't move. I reeled myself slowly and painfully off the cold floor. There was barely any light where I was. I squinted terribly just to see, and in the dim, I caught the shape of bars and shadows walking back and forth.

I dragged my knees, attempting to move out of wherever it was I was. My hands searched the air warily for anything to hold onto. In the attempt, they hit something hard, and it was then that it became clear to me that I was really behind bars in a dark hellhole for God knows how long.

My eyes flickered while I wrapped my fingers around the bars and tried to stand. I slipped to my knees many times before I finally found the strength to get off the floor and onto my feet. I stretched my arms out through the holes of the bars and hung them there.

The voices around me were still so faint, my ears struggling to grab the sounds coming at it from every angle. It must have been that that prevented me from noticing the footsteps coming towards me until someone whispered into my ears.

"You look pathetic."

My eyes were half-open

at first, but when I heard those words, I drew them up fully. I may be faint, but I could still tell who it was. Her voice was still ingrained in my memory, there to haunt me.

"Should I clap for you for being so observant?" I said to her.

Jane exasperated. "Perhaps you should. At least it'd show that you appreciate that I bothered to care about you at all."

"You care about me? I'm flattered." My voice was low and dripping with sarcasm.

She let out a sharp breath, displeased.

"Honestly, you're really stupid too. I'm here in front of you. Instead of begging for your life, you're pissing me off."

"Oh, I should beg for my life?" I feigned surprise. "I'm sorry, I didn't know who you were. I didn't know. Give me a moment, let me get prayer beads and worship at your feet while I'm at it."

"You are a fool, Melissa. You are a stupid idiot. A curse," she spat out furiously.

I started to chuckle, wincing from the pain at my side.

"I know I'm a fool, Jane, but do you really think I haven't figured that out? I was a fool to have believed you. We were helpless."

I paused to take a breath before I found my voice again.

"You played on my wounded heart, and I fell for it like a gullible idiot. I fell for your father too. I'm really such a fool. Indeed, I don't regret Luca though."

A small curl tugged at my lips.

"I'm happy he never got to grow up with you. You're the worst mother in the world. Luca would hate you forever, and I'm so glad I succeeded in doing that."

Jane crackled with anger. I was amused, very much amused by my success. I couldn't see Jane's face because my eyes had fallen to the floor, but I could still tell it was crooked because she was seething.
"Well, wait till you really get into the real reason why you're here. Then I'll see how well you laugh."

"You want to breed, don't you?"

A gasp escaped her lips before she had the chance to muffle it.

"You... how did you know?”
