Chapter 306: Help Me Find Her
As soon as the receptionist regained her freedom, she immediately kept her distance from Mason.
Vivian noticed this and signaled for Emily to go forward and appease the receptionist. She had already instructed Emily to provide the receptionist with the best compensation and psychological counseling, considering the matter settled privately.
She then quietly instructed the security captain, "Don't make a fuss about today's incident to the public, as this is a personal matter of mine. Everyone present will receive a consolation fee, understood?"
"Understood, Ms. Swain."
Vivian nodded before taking Mason into her exclusive elevator.
There were no cameras in her private elevator.
In the enclosed space, she said to Mason, "It seems your injuries have already healed. While you were unconscious, I made a deal with your subordinates. Didn't they have a share for you when you woke up?"
"No." Mason seemed uninterested in the deal Vivian mentioned. "We went our separate ways."
"Oh? Then why did you come to find me? Don't tell me someone on their side hired you to kill me."
"No!" Mason frowned. "I came to ask for your favor, not to kill you. If I wanted to kill you, I would have done it already. It is not convenient to talk in the elevator. Let's find another place to talk."
Vivian nodded. "Then let me ask you a question first. Do you know how Quinton is doing now?"
"I've heard something about him. I heard that he had a fight with Dennis later on, and now General Burke has basically monopolized their business. Quinton has disappeared without a trace. I don't know where he's hiding. But I heard rumors that he plans to seek revenge on you, so be careful lately."
Vivian nodded. "I've already known about this. Thank you for the warning."
As they spoke, the elevator had already stopped.
Vivian walked out first. "Follow me."
She intended to take Mason to her office.
The reason why she didn't go to other meeting rooms was because most of those places had surveillance cameras.
But at the moment, Sally was still in her office, so she needed to deal with it in advance.
Thus, she went into her office alone for now.
And as soon as Vivian went in, she saw Sally holding a vase in her hand, looking very alert.
Seeing Sally being overly nervous, Vivian walked briskly to her side and whispered, "Sally, we don't need this thing. Put it down. I'm going to bring someone in to talk later. Can you go wait for me in the lounge?"
"Did you really bring that person up?" Sally looked at Vivian cautiously, lowering her voice, and asked, "Do you really know him?"
"Yes, he's the former captain of a mercenary team that I worked with before. His name is Mason, and it was Sheldon who introduced him to me back then."
Hearing that it was introduced by her own younger brother, Sally relaxed slightly. "Then I'll stay inside. If I find something suspicious, I'll call the police immediately."
"Don't worry. Nothing will happen."
After Sally entered the lounge, Vivian invited Mason in.
Closing the door, Mason immediately asked Vivian, "Has Ava contacted you since you returned?"
"No," Vivian frowned. She had some impression of Ava...
When she wanted Mason and the others to help her find Christopher's body after she returned, Mason's subordinates mentioned it.
That person said that Ava had been missing since that day, and she didn't even visit Mason when he was in the hospital.
So... Vivian asked Mason, "Have you still not found her? Has she disappeared?"
Hearing Vivian's question, Mason was instantly disappointed. "It seems like she really hasn't contacted you."
Vivian felt a bit strange. "Why are you so certain that she would definitely contact me?"
Mason furrowed his brows. "I don't know. I don't know who else she would go to if she left me and left that place. But we have done jobs for so many bosses, and only when working for you was she the happiest. She used to laugh frequently during that time and even became more talkative. I think you must be different to her."
"Is that so?" Vivian furrowed her brows tightly because Mason's speculation was strange. "How am I different?"
"Sunshine."
"Sunshine?" Vivian was even more puzzled. "I didn't get it."
Mason's frown deepened. "At first, I didn't get it either, but later I seemed to have grasped a bit of it."
As he spoke, he took out a palm-sized sealed bag from the hem of his T-shirt pocket and carefully placed it on the table.
Vivian picked it up and examined it carefully.
She found that the plastic bag contained an old photograph.
It seemed that there should have been two people in the photo.
One of them was Ava, while the image of the other person had been dug out. The word "sunshine" was written in the upper right corner of the photo.
Looking at this strange photo, Vivian was filled with countless doubts.
She asked Mason, "Who is the person next to Ava? Is it you?"
"No!" Mason's brows were furrowed. "She had been carrying this photo with her even before I knew her. She treasured this photo and would often caress the word on it. But this time, she disappeared without even bringing this photo."
Vivian frowned, "But I am sure the person whose image was dug out is not me. Even if Ava wrote 'sunshine' on the photo, what does it have to do with me?"
Mason's voice choked. "Ava really likes sunshine. She often says that she hopes the sunlight can shine through this dark and dirty place."
"When we were working for you, one night she suddenly told me that you had the scent of sunshine on you. I've been with her for so long, and I have never heard her say that anyone else has the scent of sunshine. You are the only exception."
"The scent of sunshine..." Vivian immediately recalled it.
She not only recalled it, but also found it quite memorable.
Because it was the first time someone described her this way.
It was Ava.
"Yes, she did say that to me."
Vivian remembered when Ava told her that she was different from other bosses.
She asked Ava what made her different, and Ava said it was the unique positive energy she had, a scent that no other boss had, a scent of sunshine.
At that time, Vivian found it intriguing. How could someone describe her like that?
Ava explained that she personally loved the scent of sunshine. She hoped that one day, sunshine would fill this dark land and illuminate every dirty corner.
Although Ava was a mercenary, she seemed to dislike this fertile yet violent land, even loathed it.
But...
Vivian said, "She has never contacted me before."
"Then can you help me find her? I'm begging you!" Mason said and immediately kneeled down in front of Vivian. "I have investigated you later on. I know that you and your husband have a lot of influence in Valarna. I think Ava might have come to Valarna. As long as you help me find her, I can do anything for you."
"But Mason, why do you think she would come to Valarna? Maybe she..."
"No way! I have a feeling that she is still alive. She just left me! Look closely at the background of this photo. There's Valarnaian writing on it. The architecture is also in the style of Valarna. Besides, she mentioned once that she admired the peaceful environment of Valarna. If she left, I can't think of any other place she would go!"
