Chapter 159
Betrayal
Alex pov
Luke!.
My stomach clenched.
My world shattering before my eyes. There, tangled in the white sheets, was Luke, the boy I had given up everything for.
My boyfriend was having it with June of all people. He was lying down on the bed, with June pressed against his bare chest.
I felt like I couldn't breathe well. Why was my lungs not receiving enough air?And the pain that was coming from my heart.
It was so painful and heart-wrenching that all I wanted was to wake up, and everything became a dream. But the laughter of June was a sore indication that I was not in any dream.
She was tracing her hand over lukes bare chest, and he was not doing anything to stop her.Luke's gaze met mine.
And for a split second, something flickered in his expression. But it was not regret like I had expected to see. Nor was it guilt. It was indifference.
“Alex?” His voice was calm, unbothered, as if I was just some stranger who had walked in at the wrong time.
“You are supposed to be at home.”
“Do you wanna join us, Alex? I could permit you to watch me give Luke what you can never give to him” June's demonic voice rang in my head.
The room seems to disappear. Everything had disappeared except Luke, who was still looking at me like he was expecting an answer from me.
I took a step forward, my breath ragged. “Tell me, did anything we had meant anything to you. All those words, the encouragement and the kisses. Where they just play to you” My voice was barely above a whisper.
June scoffed, pulling the sheets higher over her chest. “How could Luke ever love someone like you. A faggot. Luke prefers me than to a useless imp like you”
My body felt numb. This couldn’t be real. This had to be some cruel joke.
I had given up everything for Luke.I had beaten myself and felt guilty when I had allowed my feelings to get in-between me and luke.
The music prodigy, aka Andrian, insulted him, pushed him away, all because I wanted to be faithful.
I had risked my future, my dreams, my soul for him.And now…He sighed, sitting up.
“I didn’t want you to find out like this, but…” He ran a hand through his hair lazily, as if this was nothing more than an inconvenience.
“I guess it was bound to happen.”
I took another step forward my fist clenching as I repeated the same question.
“Was any of it real?” My voice cracked.
Luke exhaled slowly, then smirked. “You’re so dramatic, Alex.”
June giggled
.Dramatic.The word hit me like a slap.I felt something inside me break, something raw, something I would never be able to put back together again.
Tears blurred my vision.
But I fought to keep it at bay. I won't cry in front of June and Luke.A bitter laugh escaped me, but it sounded foreign, hollow.
“You never loved me, did you?”
June rolled her eyes. “Oh, come on, Alex. Don’t make this more pathetic than it already is.”
Pathetic.
“Alex, wait I can…”
I didn't wait to hear what lies he wanted to say more. Nor did I wait to see the ugly face of June scrounging up in mockery and disgust.
I turned on my heel and stormed out of the room.I didn’t know where I was going, my vision was blurred with tears as the tears I had fought to keep from falling, fell like a dam, blinding my vision.
The hallway felt suffocating, the walls closing in. But I managed to find my way downstairs, scampering for my clothes.
That was when I heard laughter that made me stop in my tracks. The party had stopped , and I noticed that everybody had their mobile devices out, capturing me.
Chuckling and laughter ringing out of the room.My Brain blanked for a second.
I had become the center of attention.
“…Poor Alex, he really thought Luke loved him.”
“…He should be ashamed of himself for trying to convert Luke into a fag.
“…Did you see his face when he came down? God, I wish I recorded it.”
My blood ran cold. They were looking at me.Laughing at me.
My pulse pounded in my ears. The walls blurred. The voices grew louder, overlapping, suffocating me.
I turned, my eyes darting across the room in confusion but I didn’t wait to know why any of this was happening.
I didn’t wait for answers.I bolted out of the exit doors with my face burning in shame into the freezing night air.
The city lights were bright, but my vision was hazy. My legs felt like lead, my breaths uneven as I ran.I ran past streets upon streets.
I knew that the better way was to take a cab, but I didn't even have much left with me again. My chest ached, but I didn’t stop.
I didn’t slow down until I reached the front door of my house.I shoved it open, stepping inside.
“Alex?”,My mother’s voice.
She was in the kitchen, probably making tea like she always did this late at night. Her voice was warm, filled with concern.
“You’re back early. Is everything…”She stopped amidst her statement when she saw me. Her cup of coffee sliping from her hands in shock.
I was like a mouse that was caught in a trap. I only gnawed at her like a fish on land.I didn’t answer.I couldn’t.
I ran past her, up the stairs to my room.“Ohh, horny what happened…”I slammed my bedroom door shut.
Shutting out everything. The noise, the fake love of luke, The viciousness of june. I didn't want to see anyone, or talk to anyone for ever.
A sob tore through me, violent, raw, unstoppable.I buried my face in my hands, my whole body shaking as the reality of everything crashed over me.
Luke.
The betrayal.
The scornful laughter.
The emptiness.
Did he ever love me?Or was it all just a joke to him?His face flashed in my mind again, calm, uncaring, completely unaffected.
No remorse.
No guilt.
No love.
I had been nothing but a game to him. And I have stupidly allowed myself to think that he loved me.
A tear slipped down my cheek, followed by another, and then another, until I was gasping for air, my chest heaving.
I had never felt pain like this before.Well, the only time was the night I had come back from camp, last four years ago.
Then I wept like I have ever done. This night again, I can't just stop the tears that just wouldn't stop gushing out.
I stayed in my pillow, curled like a ball as I cried myself to sleep.
