Chapter 67 Who are you
Chapter 67 Who are you
Selina chirped again, unable to hold herself back. “Is that bag from C brand?”
“Yeah. Just something I picked up for over ten grand. I only use it for unimportant events like today,” Ivy replied casually, slipping her lipstick into the bag and placing it carefully on the table.
She then ran her fingers through her hair, the diamond ring on her finger flashing brilliantly under the lights.
Selina gasped. “Wow! That ring is huge. Is this what they call a rock?”
“Only three carats. About seventy grand,” Ivy said lightly, though she made sure to move her hand around in the light a little more than necessary.
Oliver finally understood what was going on.
These two weren’t here to celebrate the orphanage. They were here to perform.
Otherwise, why would Ivy dress like she was attending a fashion gala for a simple anniversary dinner?
When the two of them finally paused, Oliver resumed chatting with Noreen about their lives over the years.
Noreen had opened a small jewelry store and was doing well for herself.
Meanwhile, Ivy had been flaunting her wealth nonstop, but Oliver hadn’t even spared her a glance.
That made Ivy furious.
As a child, Ivy had disliked Oliver the most.
Even though they were all orphans, Oliver never acted timid or inferior. Even in a plain dress, she looked like a little princess. No matter what exam or competition it was, Oliver always came first.
Ivy remembered how hard she had tried back then, only to always come second.
Thinking about it made her teeth grind.
She lifted her chin and finally spoke.
“Oh, isn’t this Oliver? I heard you were adopted by the Peterson family last year. Looks like things aren’t going too well for you there, huh? Your clothes don’t even have a brand. Could it be that the Peterson family only dotes on their original daughter and ignores you?”
Ivy felt like she had finally won something after all these years.
She looked at Oliver smugly, waiting for her embarrassed reaction.
Oliver blinked.
I’ve been sitting here for so long and you’re acting like you just noticed me?
Truthfully, she couldn’t remember anyone from their childhood group who dressed this loudly and spoke this sharply.
So she asked honestly, “Sorry… who are you?”
What she didn’t say was that everything Ivy was wearing combined wasn’t worth even one piece of her own outfit from the exclusive Phoenix Feather collection.
“You—you—you…” Ivy stammered, pointing at Oliver with a trembling finger.
What could be more humiliating than realizing the person you’ve secretly hated for years doesn’t even remember you?
After a long moment, Ivy finally burst out, “You don’t remember me?!”
“Should I?” Oliver asked calmly.
Noreen quickly leaned closer and whispered, “She’s the one who used to cry every time she couldn’t beat you in exams.”
Oliver nodded slowly. “Oh… so it’s her.”
The humiliation hit Ivy like a slap.
But she was no longer the helpless little girl from back then.
She turned to Noreen with a sneer. “And look who this is. The chubby kid who used to eat the most. I remember the orphanage almost going broke because of your appetite. Don’t worry, eat as much as you want today. But staying that chubby isn’t good, you know? People judge.”
Noreen’s face turned red under the strange looks from the others. She lowered her head in embarrassment.
Then two warm hands gently rested on her shoulders.
“Ignore her nonsense,” Oliver said calmly.
She looked straight at Ivy. “So what if she’s chubby? Did she eat your food? Or do you live by the sea, to be this salty?”
Ivy froze.
Oliver added calmly, “And stop talking. Your breath stinks. You’re ruining everyone’s appetite.”
Someone at the next table burst into laughter and nearly sprayed their drink.
Ivy instinctively clamped her mouth shut. Her earlier confidence vanished instantly. She didn’t dare speak again for a while.
After most of the guests had arrived, Ivy suddenly stood up and grabbed a microphone.
“Welcome, everyone, to the Cloud Garment Hot Spring Resort. This hotel is a new project by my husband’s family. Since our orphanage is celebrating its 30th anniversary, my husband offered this place for the event. After dinner, please enjoy the hot springs.”
The crowd applauded enthusiastically, praising Ivy for her generosity and good marriage.
Ivy’s vanity was thoroughly satisfied.
Finally, the dishes were served.
Everyone lowered their heads and focused on eating the rare seafood delicacies.
Oliver, however, felt a little discomfort in her stomach. She asked the waiter for a cup of hot water and sipped quietly.
Ivy noticed and smirked. “Oliver, you should eat more. You won’t get this chance again. Or maybe… you don’t know how to crack the shells?”
Selina laughed loudly.
Oliver glanced at the seafood calmly.
The person who usually helped her peel shells wasn’t here today.
She looked at Ivy and smiled faintly.
“I’ll make sure to tell Mr. Peterson that the Logan family’s daughter thinks his family can’t afford seafood.”
Noreen had told her earlier that Ivy had been adopted by the Logan family. Despite calling someone her husband, she was only engaged to the second son of the Luca family.
Ivy stiffened immediately.
The Logan family, no matter how rich, couldn’t compare to the Petersons.
She forced a laugh. “I was just joking. Why take it seriously?”
This time, she truly went quiet.
Later, Skye joined their table and everyone caught up on old memories.
After the meal, Oliver and Noreen soaked in the hot springs for a while, which made Oliver feel much better.
In the evening, the formal celebration began in the largest banquet hall.
The moment Oliver stepped in, she noticed a row of reporters seated near the front.
That was when she understood why the Luca family had been so willing to sponsor this event for the orphanage.
