Chapter 21 Torment

Sophia keenly noticed that Hilda's expression had changed, instinctively positioning herself in front of Fiona.

Fiona frowned and reasoned with her, "Hilda, Gordan will not remarry you."

"You are just relying on the child in your belly to have such confidence, aren't you?" Hilda sneered coldly, "Your daughter is just like you, always acting delicate and seducing men with a fox-like charm."

"Hilda, don't go too far!" Sophia shouted.

Hilda's eyes widened, "Am I going too far? Really?" She slowly approached Sophia, "Do you really think that the child in your mother's belly can guarantee her safety?"

"The Larry family will only be mine." Hilda smirked triumphantly, causing Sophia to frown deeply and her gaze to become as sharp as a knife.

Hilda was initially targeting Sophia, but Fiona, worried about her daughter, stepped forward to reason with Hilda, "Hilda... ah!"

"Mom!" Hilda suddenly pushed Fiona hard. Fiona staggered backward, her heel slipping off the edge of the staircase.

Just as she was about to fall, a large hand grabbed her tightly. "Auntie, hold on!" Sophia rushed over to hold Fiona, who was pale with fright.

"Mom! Mom, are you okay?" Fiona's legs were weak, and she clung tightly to Sophia, "Sophia."

Furious, Sophia turned back to find Hilda. Hilda had already fled, nowhere to be seen.

Sophia then looked up at Henry, "Thank you, thank you for saving my mother's life." Tears welled up in Sophia's eyes as she struggled to hold them back.

Seeing her fragile appearance stirred emotions deep within Henry. Though he appeared calm on the surface, his inner emotions were surging.

Just as Henry was about to speak, Ariel wrapped her arm around his, smiling with a hidden edge, "I was wondering when Henry became so keen on helping others, it turns out it's Sophia's mother."

Ariel's words were tinged with mockery, and her eyes were sharp. "Thank you both for your help," Sophia graciously thanked them, leaving Ariel momentarily speechless.

Sophia took Fiona to the hospital. Henry was about to offer to take them, but Ariel quickly grabbed his arm, "Honey, don't forget that Sophia has a husband. Remember which company he works for?"

"You shouldn't get too involved in other people's business; it could be troublesome."

"Troublesome?" Henry looked down at the wife he had lived with for years, noting her lack of empathy.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Ariel forced a smile, trying to appease Henry.

"Is it because you saw Sophia? Honey, if you keep acting this way, I'll start to get suspicious."

Henry pulled his arm away, "If I hadn't rushed over just now, Auntie could have been seriously hurt."

Henry walked away, leaving Ariel grinding her teeth, trying to keep up in her high heels, "Honey, wait for me."

From the moment he saw Sophia, Henry had changed. Ariel had loved him for so long that she could sense even the slightest shift in his behavior. She feared that Sophia might take Henry away from her.

Henry's steps were large and his mind increasingly chaotic. Ariel added fuel to the fire by reminding him that Sophia was already married. His mind was a tangled mess.

Ariel kept close behind, trying to grab Henry, but he shook her off. She stood behind him, feeling wronged but unable to keep her mouth shut, "Henry, you're acting strange."

Henry had lost all patience. Despite appearing controlled in the marriage, Henry actually held the upper hand emotionally. Ariel hung her head, feeling almost overwhelmed with grievance, "Honey, you're too good to Sophia..."

"We are just classmates." Henry lowered his head, placing an arm around Ariel's shoulder, "Besides, aren't you and Sophia good friends?"

"Yes," Ariel dreaded any mention of the past. Every time Henry brought it up, she would quickly change the topic.

Henry drove in silence, with Ariel in the passenger seat, quiet as well. She nervously played with her fingers until she felt pain, finally realizing what she was doing. She was contemplating, fearing the possibility of Sophia rekindling old feelings with Henry. She wouldn't allow such a thing to happen.

"The woman who pushed Auntie earlier, was it due to a love affair? I heard Sophia had a falling out with her family to marry her husband."

Ariel wore a gentle smile, trying to appear considerate, "Honey, should we invite them for dinner and see if there's any way we can help?"

Ariel raised her brows, asking Henry, "What do you think?"

"If you're good friends with her, you don't need to ask me."

Ariel smiled sweetly, moving closer, "Then it's settled."

Ariel wanted to further test Henry's feelings, even if it meant taking a risk.

Seeing Henry's furrowed brows relax, Ariel felt a bitter smile forming. She loved him for years, yet another woman could easily sway his emotions. Holding back the bitterness in her chest, she couldn't become a joke.

Sophia took Fiona for a full body checkup, relieved to find she was fine. Fiona wanted to return to the Larry family.

"Mom, wait until Uncle Larry comes back."

"You don't need to worry about me; I'll handle it myself."

"Mom!" In the Larry family, Grandma Lewis had the final say, and she favored Hilda, making Fiona's life difficult.

"Come home with me."

Sophia began packing Fiona's belongings, only to have them snatched away.

"Don't worry about my affairs; I'll handle them myself!" Fiona insisted, eyes red with tears.

Sophia stood, face flushed with anger, "You must come home with me today."

If Hilda dared to push Fiona in front of Sophia, what would she do if Fiona returned to the Larry family alone?

Fiona fought back tears, not wanting to burden Sophia, who had finally established her own family, breaking free from the Larry family. She couldn't drag Sophia back into it.
